I have SO many happy memories of watching her films with my mum when I was a wee girl.

Seeing her sing Secret Love from Calamity Jane made me love musicals since then.

I loved Calamity Jane! Strangely, I was reminiscing about it yesterday, because Move Over Darling came on the radio.

Catchingbentcoppers · 13/05/2019 15:02

There are probably hundreds of MNetters who never heard of her but she was a massive part of my childhood, my mum loved her.

Crikey I didn't realise she was even still alive! She was my dads first true love Grin He was born in 1937 and he loved all her films.

SenecaFalls · 13/05/2019 15:09

Many happy memories of watching her movies. RIP Doris Day Flowers

Que sera sera Star

RubberTreePlant · 13/05/2019 15:11

She must have been a good age. She did a lot for animal welfare too. I'll watch Pillow Talk in her honour tonight. I love those early sixties comedies. RIP Ms Day WineThanks

Oh I loved her
Secret love in Calamity Jane ❤️❤️

AloneLonelyLoner · 13/05/2019 15:12

This makes me so sad. This woman was so awesome. Talented, outspoken, an animal lover and feminist. I loved her. Some of my happiest memories were singing along to her movies. So sad.

StellaRae · 13/05/2019 15:18

Me too. Wonderful memories of watching her films with my grandmother. So talented and what a smile. RIP Doris

Ah, Seneca, that was the very scene in my mind!

RIP, fabulous Doris.

Xyzzzzz · 13/05/2019 15:24

Aw noo! I’m only 30 but my mum loved her so I enjoyed her films! Move over darling, a touch of mink, pillow talk

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 13/05/2019 15:27

@SenecaFalls and @PerkingFaintly
Great minds!!
That gives me goosebumps every time...

SenecaFalls · 13/05/2019 15:29

I loved the clothes she wore in her movies, too.

JeezYouLoon · 13/05/2019 15:31

I'm gutted, I just loved her - her style, fabulous voice and she just looked so lovely - when I was 8 I just wanted to be like her!

97 is a fabulous age though, plus she loved animals 💞

So weird. We watched Calamity Jane yesterday, so today I looked up the trivia for it on IMDB (cos I'm a geek) and one of the trivia items was that since 2018 Doris Day is the only surviving lead cast member.

Catchingbentcoppers · 13/05/2019 15:33

This hurts my heart a wee bit. Gorgeous.

That scene in Calamity Jane where Doris Day goes to the dance, takes her cloak off, and amazes everyone with hitherto unknown beauty is one of my favourite movie scenes. Grin

Aw Doris Day has died.

Amazing figure, that waist.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 13/05/2019 16:11

I'm really sad about this; I grew up on her movies and can quite most of them word for word. She had such a sad personal life too-she ought to have had a long and happy marriage. Not that I'm saying marriage is the be all and end all, but she didn't have much luck with men did she?

TrixieFranklin · 13/05/2019 16:12

I'm mid twenties and The Thrill of it All is one of my all time favourite films! I didn't know she was still alive if I'm completely honest but she was a true star.

Catchingbentcoppers · 13/05/2019 16:12

@MyGastIsFlabbered no bless her, she really didn't.

Pillow Talk was the other one I loved. Great 60s aesthetic for the apartment interiors.

CrinolineQueen · 13/05/2019 16:40

late 1950s aesthetic I should have said
