Possible lost Tampon

Lostbutnotfound · 11/05/2019 22:08

I've name changed for this

I think I've got a tampon wedged up my foof. It's 10 days since I started my period but still been getting watery/bloody discharge, and quite a lot of it, which isn't usual at all. I also feel a bit itchy down there.

Thought I'd try the old natural yoghurt on a tampon trick in case it's thrush but really didn't feel comfortable so gave up. Had a poke around and think I can feel something. If it is a tampon it's been in there for about a weekBlush.

I'm horrified. I'm going to have to go and have it retrieved aren't I?

How did I manage to do this🤦‍♀️

@Lostbutnotfound

I had one stuck when cord came out. I went to a minor injuries unit and the nurse talked me through getting it out. I was able to remove it myself but she would have done it if not. Basically you need some lube on you fingers. Put forefinger and middle finger up as far as you can and feel for it. Get it between the 2 and pull down. Don’t worry about pushing it further. It cannot get past the cervix.
If you can’t get it a nurse will do it. They’ve seen it all before.

youaremyrain · 12/05/2019 09:24

This happened to me, I had to squat and couldn't quite lever it out so I had to use a spoon handle to assist me (not recommended)

MaverickSnoopy · 12/05/2019 09:32

Hasn't this happened to most people? There's so much to remember in life, tampons are easily forgotten. I had one fall out once - no idea it was up there. Ditto a used condom back in my late teens (had taken MAP when we couldn't find it - never thought it might be in me!).

Get in the bath and have another go. Then get out and do the crouching down thing. If not then 111 today and get an out of hours apt. I know someone who had TSS and nearly died.

I'm quite surprised that your DH isn't willing to help you. Have you explained to him how it's serious and if he doesn't help then you'll have to go to see a doctor?

coffeegrounds · 12/05/2019 10:59

I don't think OP is listening to the serious aspect of it, let alone her DH.

harrypotterfan1604 · 12/05/2019 11:05

I am a nurse and I urge you to get it sorted today if you can’t get it out yourself. The risk of infection is huge it really can’t wait

ChesterDrawsDoesntExist · 12/05/2019 11:07

Reading through this thread I have come to the conclusion that I must have a tiny vagina! Can you guys feel your cervix? I've always been able to since my first pregnancy. There's no way any tampon could get lost or forgotten inside because I would be able to feel it easily.

I guess it explains the painful intercourse.

ChesterDrawsDoesntExist · 12/05/2019 11:09

And OP, your DH is being hugely unreasonable! He's probably the only person other than you to be well acquainted with that particular part of you!

MrsFrankCastle · 12/05/2019 11:25

Another one echoing pp, you should not wait to be seen! TSS is very real

DowntonCrabby · 12/05/2019 11:30

Do you have a good, no nonsense, practical friend who might have a go?

I’d do this for any friend who was really worried but I’m in a partially HCP role so have definitely come across worse.

MidsomerBurgers · 12/05/2019 11:34

www.nhs.uk/conditions/toxic-shock-syndrome/

Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a rare but life-threatening condition caused by bacteria getting into the body and releasing harmful toxins.

It's often associated with tampon use in young women, but it can affect anyone of any age – including men and children.

TSS gets worse very quickly and can be fatal if not treated promptly. But if it's diagnosed and treated early on, most people will make a full recovery.

blitzen · 12/05/2019 11:38

This happened to me once. I remember the watery discharge which I now think was bath water. Yuck! I found a wiki how to remove it myself. Couldn't get a grip at first but managed to do so while sitting on toilet. Good luck. Please seek medical advice if you don't get it out.

Twotome · 12/05/2019 12:27

Hoping the OP isn’t replying because she has gone to get it out. Shocking that anyone would think it would be OK to casually wait a few days Hmm

MulticolourMophead · 12/05/2019 12:47

I had one stuck for at least two weeks in my early 20s. Doc gave me some antibiotics as I was showing signs of a possible infection. I also thought I'd got one stuck when I'd attended a music festival, but although I went to the nurse, she didn't find it so I suspect I'd lost it when going to the loo, without realising it had gone. I'd decided to switch to pads as easier.

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 12/05/2019 14:14

Even if you manage to get it out, it will be worth speaking to your gp/nurse incase of risk of infection.

HelpAFattieOutHere · 12/05/2019 19:44

I've not had periods for years because of contraception but I think I might just go and have a delve around to make sure there isn't one up there I'm not aware of Confused

Fixmygarden · 13/05/2019 08:25

Op! Are you OK?

Lostbutnotfound · 13/05/2019 09:47

I've got an appointment with the nurse shortly. I tried several more times myself yesterday, but it's too high up. I feel well in myself and the watery discharge is not foul smelling, so I decided that it would probably be OK until this morning. If I had started to feel unwell at any point yesterday then I would have phoned 111. Thanks everyone for your replies and concern.

I shall be ordering a menstrual cup very soon!!

Yeah this happens more than people think! I find it quite satisfying removing them tbh, instant relief for the woman too knowing it's out.

coffeegrounds · 13/05/2019 13:11

I hope you ok OP, but i am genuinely shocked at your lack of concern for your own health.

Silvercatowner · 13/05/2019 14:00

Stuck tampons stink very quickly. If there's no smell I doubt there's anything up there.

butterflykiss00 · 13/05/2019 16:14

Hope it went well x

littlepeaegg · 13/05/2019 17:39

How did it go?

BlueSkiesLies · 13/05/2019 18:09

Do you have a good, no nonsense, practical friend who might have a go?

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST I would not do that for a friend. I woudl be directing them to the nearest HCP and paying for a taxi but I would not be fucking fishing about in their vaj for a stinking, rotting tampon.

EnidButton · 13/05/2019 18:26

Chester I can feel my cervix and would be able to get to a stuck tampon. Had lots of gynae type stuff so if it was unusual a nurse or consultant would've said by now. I've thought the same as you when these threads have been posted before but I think we're all just very different and all shapes and sizes.
