HELP!! Cake disaster.

TanselleTooTall · 11/05/2019 11:48

I made a cake yesterday in sandwich tins. I'm about to sandwich both sides together and one of the cakes is undercooked in the middle.
Can I save it??

Can you see - it's about the size of a 50p. What do I do?

Scoop it out

Extra filling in the gap.

It will be fine.

Harrison376 · 11/05/2019 11:51

Who’s eating it? If it was my family I’d serve it to them anyway.

I second scoop it out and extra filling

BendydickCuminsnatch · 11/05/2019 11:55

Yeah if it’s that small just ignore it (gooey cake is lush! 😄) or scoop and fill. At least you know it won’t be dry!

TanselleTooTall · 11/05/2019 11:56

Fussy family. They'd see it and convince themselves they've got food poisoning Hmm

Google says to return to pan, cover in foil and cook low. Should I try? It'll be such a waste if if the wrong thing to do.

Cut it out, fill with buttercream or cream cheese frosting.

Gribbie · 11/05/2019 12:08

Turn it into a piñata cake? Candy in the middle.

ManeChanged · 11/05/2019 12:11

I’d consider dry cake a much bigger disaster. That is cooked through enough and will be much yummier than dry cake.

Poppins2016 · 11/05/2019 12:14

You could cut out the middle of both cakes and turn them into a ring shaped cake.

Save the inside for you to eat (with custard?) later!

Reallybadidea · 11/05/2019 12:14

It won't poison anyone and I'd tell fussy family members not to bother eating any and I'll have it myself. If you're a more accommodating person than me then I'd just cut it out and fill with buttercream. It's not a disaster by any means at the moment, but re-baking it risks it becoming one.

Windygate · 11/05/2019 12:23

Is it a carrot and walnut cake with a cream cheese filling? If so I'd gently scoop a bit out and spread on the filling. Looks lush to me.

UhOhSpagettiOs · 11/05/2019 13:07

Definitely go for a piñata cake! Fill it with chocolate buttons

TanselleTooTall · 11/05/2019 14:54

It is carrot cake!
Well I panicked a bit and popped back in the oven with foil. It did work in that the middle firmed up but unfortunately the outer is a bit hard now. Sad I can't get baking right. I just don't seem to get the hang of it.

Feel bit down in the dumps now, stupidly.

BentBaastard · 11/05/2019 15:16

You should have scooped 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Reallybadidea · 11/05/2019 15:20

Literally every poster on the thread recommended that you scoop rather than put it back in the oven! Why bother asking?!

Falafel19 · 11/05/2019 15:21

Should've scooped it out, overbaking the outside was inevitable trying to rebake the middle. You had an almost perfect cake, next time you'll know to leave it a tiny bit longer and make sure and check if it's done as soon as you take it out so you can put it back in if needs be, don't be disheartened.

Serve it warm with some icecream and a carmel sauce and it should be salvageable!

PinkHeartLovesCake · 11/05/2019 15:30

Well it was always going over bake if you shoved it back in the oven tbh. Should of scooped it out, filled the cake with cream or whatever and sandwiched it together!

When cutting cake you could of make sure you got the hole if family are that fussy....

Todaythiscouldbe · 11/05/2019 15:39

Nobody advised you to do that. Why ask?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 11/05/2019 15:46

What the hell did you ask for? Hmm

BlueCornishPixie · 11/05/2019 15:53

Why did you do that?

I just don't understand why you would ruin the rest of the cake just for a small section. Your family weren't going to get food poisoning from slightly undercooked cake

Harrison376 · 11/05/2019 16:14

Don’t give up, it’s just practice. I’ve had lots of disasters along the way but I can literally tap the top of the cake now and I know if it’s done by the sound it makes. Each disaster is a step closer to the perfect bake!

Windygate · 11/05/2019 18:09

TanselleTooTall don't give up, you just need to build your confidence up. I've been baking for years, this afternoon I managed to slightly burn the tops of some scones. Family have two choices, eat or don't.

Windygate · 11/05/2019 18:12

Scones of shame Sad

AwkwardSquad · 11/05/2019 18:20

Oh well, you’ve learnt a bit more about baking and you can just eat the cake with some plain yoghurt or ice cream. It’s all good.

I’ve been trying a new cake recipe and can’t quite get it right, but the experimenting is fun :)
