Do you or do you know others who take cocaine?

I have been surprised reading here about people talking about taking cocaine. I don't know anyone who does and I never have. I have never been offered coke either. I know two people who used to take cocaine, but both of them say they used to take everything going. But apart from them, no one.
What about you?

I only discovered recently that lots of my friends do the odd line on nights out. I had no idea! I've never done it and never will but I've found it to be very common. I'm 40 and live in surrey. The people who work in London seem to be the ones who do it mainly.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 11/05/2019 16:52

Not me,strongest stimulant I take is caffeine
I know people professionally and personally who take coke
It’s v cheap,and easily available.

Nat6999 · 11/05/2019 17:16

My late partner did, he wasn't an addict, could go months without it & only bought it if he could afford it. His use stemmed from him being a professional snooker player & mixing with players who used it, he would use at parties when it was usual to do a few lines, he never used at home, only with friends when out. I never tried it but was with him when he was using a few times.

moomoogalicious · 11/05/2019 17:21

I know lots of people that do. I get offered it but say no these days as I'm pushing 50 and don't want to stay up drinking all night.

Flower777 · 11/05/2019 17:26

I took it when I was younger. I loved it tbh it made me feel amazing.

Haven’t done it for years though.

Contraceptionismyfriend · 11/05/2019 17:27

DH and I've never taken it. But I know a lot of people who have and a lot who still do.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 11/05/2019 17:28

Yes, was amazed to discover that some of the middle class middle aged parents of my daughters friends at school do. I've been offered it at their run of the mill suburban dinner parties! I was stunned - I thought we all got drugs (except a little spliff maybe occasionally) out of our systems by our 30s or at least when we became parents. Appears not!

Mumble29 · 11/05/2019 17:36

I used to back in my early to mid 20s, all my friends did including dh, haven't touched it for years though (43 now) doesn't really appeal to me anymore.

WhoWants2Know · 11/05/2019 18:04

I know it's not a clever idea, but a big part of me thinks if I did use it I'd lose weight and have energy to get stuff done.

Baloonphobia · 11/05/2019 18:06

I've just realised I know nobody who does. And I'm surprised by this. I presume someone does, I just don't know it.

Springwalk · 11/05/2019 18:13

Dh and I never have, but we found out many years ago that out friends do at parties. It made me very nervous having them in my life, and yes I definitely judge them. They have small kids and they are risking it all for the sake of a Saturday night high. They completely disregard the suffering and trafficking behind the dealing, and it makes me sick. The rest of the time they are amazing people, professional and together. It makes me confused as to why they do it. Why? Someone tell me.
If the coke is mixed with something dangerous it is game over. How can that be fair on your kids?

waterrat · 11/05/2019 18:17

Everyone I know has taken it. I am 43 and live in London and grew up in nice part of London. I have worked in pubs in my 20s in South London and all types of pub were awash with coke. Now at my age I don't see it about often and I was never a fan . But it's pretty normal

Dowser · 11/05/2019 18:18

Never
Never even smoked weed
I’m high on life

tipsytrainee46 · 11/05/2019 18:28

Very occasionally, maybe twice a year or so I do. It's alright, but I could take it or leave it really. Good at the time, but wouldn't make a habit by any means

dotty12345 · 11/05/2019 18:33

I knew my daughter and son in law regularly used it when really young. I always encouraged my daughter to tell me what she was up to as she was a troubled teen. They’re grown up now and have kids so don’t unless the children aren’t there but I was with them once and decided to try (in my 50’s) Can’t see what the fuss is about, won’t bother again. BTW are without children twice a year at most.

mamaduckbone · 11/05/2019 18:36

I never have personally but know lots that did (dh included). I'd be surprised if anyone I know now does.

IntoValhalla · 11/05/2019 18:38

I’ve got a friend who’s a police officer, and I was very surprised when she told me that a seriously impressive amount of cocaine moves through our nearest town Shock We have really easy road links to London and most of Essex, so apparently we are a key player in transportation Confused Another friend is an A&E nurse, and has told me about an increase in standings lately - usually teenage boys, and it’s not hard to work out that they are running drugs Sad
I’ve never personally seen it, but apparently there’s a lot of locals in my teeny little village who are in cahoots with the pub landlord, and have been know to snort cocaine off the tables in the public bar area with no repercussions Hmm

NoToast · 11/05/2019 18:41

*Hands" I had a friend that worked in the club industry, he said when his generation hit 50 all the drinkers and coke users started dying. It properly chilled me and I stopped drinking.

Kaddm · 11/05/2019 18:42

I knew people who took it at university. But I suppose I am naive thinking that the kind of people that I knew that took it (now middle class professionals) ought now to have some awareness of the production and transport of the drug. As did everyone really. Everyone has the Internet! People are horrifically murdered and exploited and drug bosses rule over cities.

MarniLou · 11/05/2019 18:43

Not me, not so much as a cigarette.
I was pretty shocked to walk in on my friend ( late 40's, social worker) mid Boxing Day afternoon, snorting it off the kitchen counter.

GunpowderGelatine · 11/05/2019 18:44

DH used to in his (troubled) youth before turning his life around. I was never around cocaine takers, I've seen it IRL once but I'm surprised to occasionally hear how many people I know have taken it or take it regularly.

bigTillyMint · 11/05/2019 18:46

Never done anything other than a bit of recreational weed, but stopped when I met DH who was v sporty and hated smoking. Drinking is enough for me! But knew quite a few who did - found them a bit sad TBH. And steer well clear of the MC "we are so cool" types that do it in our corner of London.

Student DD works in a nightclub - staff and punters obvs doing it. She says she steers clear, but it does worry me as it's so addictive.

QueenofCBA · 11/05/2019 18:47

To my knowledge none of my friends have ever taken cocaine, neither have I.
I was shocked when somebody at work said “Bob is great at his job but should really kick that coke habit”. I would never have noticed or assumed anything, but then I am very naive in that way.

I think most people do know someone who has taken cocaine but they just don't know it.
None of the friends I've met in the last 10 years would have any idea that I was a former recreational drug user and even in the years when I was taking drugs no one at work ever knew because I would never take them at work or have time off because of them or come in on a comedown. You don't broadcast it to people unless you have seen them do it too.
