Non lobe ear piercings?

Mokepon · 09/05/2019 21:06

Do you have any, where are they?
Was it sore? How long did it take to heal?
I quite fancy a wee daith or something as a little treat to myself for my birthday but I'm a big fat wuss.
In saying so I've got a small tattoo, had a tummy button piercing in my younger days so it won't stop me but I like to research these things Wink.

I've got my tragus pierced. Took a solid year to heal properly! And it did hurt!

123rd · 09/05/2019 21:48

I have a scaffold bar. It was a bit painful but fine once done.
I wasn't allowed to sleep on that side for a while but I naturally slept on that side so I did !
I absolutely love it and so glad I did it

My helix piercing took a year to heal, but my tragus only took a month.

Justlikedevon · 09/05/2019 21:51

I've got belly and lots in my ears. Some of the ones, as pps said, take a long time to heal- I've got one that still can make me wince decades later if I lie on it funny.

frenchonion · 09/05/2019 21:52

I've got a few on each ear through the cartilage parts. Hurt like fuck each and every time and took yonks to heal. I'd like more but I've got more pain avoidant I'm my advancing years and can't be arsed to lay only on one side again for months on end for healing.

Thecowinthemeadowgoesmoo · 09/05/2019 21:54

I have my tragus and my conch pierced. Tragus took a while to heal but I swapped the bar I had originally for a plastic one which was longer (not an easy task!) and it healed up fine once I'd done that. Needless to say I've never changed it since. Conch healed quite quickly I think.

mammaplay · 09/05/2019 21:56

I had a helix piercing, it was painful and sore for at least 12 months. Hadn't predicted not being able to sleep on that side and found it virtually impossible to change rings/find nice jewellery so have taken it out. Love my nose piercing though.

Thecowinthemeadowgoesmoo · 09/05/2019 21:56

Also have my nose pierced, although I realise you asked about ears, but just thought I'd mention it as that healed up much better than I expected it to.

lastqueenofscotland · 09/05/2019 21:57

I’ve got a lot pierced when I was younger. Don’t wear that much anymore but as long as you look after them they heal well. But I did found they all ached a bit for a while after

Lellochip · 09/05/2019 22:01

I have upper cartilage done and like PPs have said, I'd guess it was around a year for it to feel fully healed. No major problems with it that I remember, just niggly on and off for ages. It's fine now, though I never change the jewellery and just leave it alone

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 09/05/2019 22:02

I've got a daith on each side and my helix done on one side which is a recent addition, as in its less than two weeks old!. the daiths took a couple of months to stop pinching a bit but are absolutely fine and have had the bars in the them taken in and out more than once no issue. the helix is a bit sore but nothing really bad and its healing fine, ive even laid on it with no issue, it mainly just feels bruised tbh. my only real concession to it is tying my hair up at night so it doesnt get tangled round it. Planning to get the helix done on the other ear plus probably the tragus done both sides and possibly conchs as well though not 100% about the conch just yet, i don't want to over do it!

dodofofo · 09/05/2019 22:08

I've had so many piercings I've lost count but the worst by far was the daith. It was so slowly pierced and is still not fully healed but has dramatically improved with regular sprays of prontolind (bought off amazon for a fiver)

Despite my slow healing piercings and the pain I've had/ trouble sleeping, weirdly I think it's all worth it Blush

I'd say invest in some decent anti allergic earrings, get on the prontolind straight away and for gods sake, DONT TOUCH IT!!! Grin (wish I'd have taken my own advice...)

Heartofglass12345 · 09/05/2019 22:11

I had my tragus pierced when I was 15 and I only took it out last year when I was 33, it was quite close to the edge and I always thought it would grow out but it never did! It hurt but not for long and healed in a couple of weeks. I had my conch done and that hurt like a motherfucker lol and bled! I could feel it run down my neck. It healed well though. I love it and still have it in. I don't really wear any of my others unless I'm going out I wear my lobe ones. I had a few done up the top with a gun when I was a teen and they were agony, I couldn't sleep on them for months (thank god I only had one side done at a time!) and the one has left me with a lump where the cartilage 'dislodged'
Make sure you have it done with a needle Grin

MimsyBorogroves · 09/05/2019 22:14

Daith here. Mine took 6 months but then was absolutely fine - however in those 6 months I've never had anything so infected. The top of it was pretty much constantly a refilling boil, I really had to keep on top of salt water and making sure it was completely dry (without knocking it) for weeks and weeks after it erupted.

WhatOnPlanetEarth · 09/05/2019 22:36

Helix took a year and was an absolute drain on my sleep. I don’t fancy having another piercing there, I had plans of having a few but no chance!

hairypaws · 09/05/2019 22:50

Left and right helix, left and right conch, lobes x 3 each and tragus. Most painful was tragus but only for a second then nothing. I always take ibuprofen and paracetamol an hour before and it helps so much. I've done it without and it was stinging for ages. Conch was probably easiest, needle went through like butter.

TapasForTwo · 09/05/2019 22:54

DD had a rook piercing which slowly rejected within a year. She was advised to remove it asap before she caused any damage. You can't tell that she had it done now.

FaithInfinity · 09/05/2019 22:54

I had my daith done to help with migraines (it did). I was shocked when the person piercing said I’d need to clean it for 6-9 months! But it did take over 6 months to heal, I just got in the habit of cleaning it. For me, having the cartilage at the top of my ear was worse and I ended up taking it out it was so sore.

Mokepon · 10/05/2019 16:18

Thanks all, hmm longer recovery than I thought Shock.

I have a helix piercing. It was sore to sleep on off and on for ages after I'd had it done - years - but I eventually changed the ring to a much much finer one and haven't had a moment's trouble with it since. Am trying to pluck up the courage to get my daith done on the other side, just to see whether it will have any impact on my migraines.

Violetroselily · 10/05/2019 17:15

I have two in my left helix. First one was fine, healed completely in about 6m and easily took a different bar or hoop. Second one was awful, lots of swelling and pus over a year later. It's fine now but I dont dare change the bar incase I awake the beast again.

Neither piercing really hurt but the aftermath of the second one really was unpleasant.

Julietee · 10/05/2019 18:50

Helix, was a pinch then fine, really not bad.
I slept with a rolled up hand towel making a little hole for it to nestle in.
I don’t know where you are, but this was Julie of Cold Steel in Camden, who is brilliant.

MrsS92 · 10/05/2019 18:55

I’ve got my rook and tragus done, I’ve just got really tiny silver nose rings in them so you can barely see I have them done!
They weren’t that painful to have done but they did bloody hurt whilst healing and took a while, I kept knocking them or getting my hair wrapped round them.

ellendegeneres · 10/05/2019 20:11

Had my daith done at the start of the year and like mimsy said, it was like a boil filling and refilling. That’s now stopped but it’s not healed yet, I occasionally get scabs around there which is gross but it’s definitely healing.

I did mine due to ridiculously frequent migraines (minimally once a week) which as anyone who suffers will know, was utterly debilitating.
I’ve had two since having it done and one which seemed like one, but I had been very sick and so was extreme dehydration. I’m still happy I did it, £30 well spent. Highly recommend it!
