... and have a stunningly modern house or flat. Fill it with art and spend my days writing and studying, going to art galleries and museums and just taking in all the culture about ...ah the dream

£4m to live in Wood Green? misses point

I had similar dreams when I moved to London on my shiny new salary. I now live in a shoebox, am perminantly broke and never leave Hackney because I don't like central Grin

SomethingOnce · 06/05/2019 21:52

I wish I was so rich I could leave London, live in a cottage with enough land for a couple of horses, and never have to suffer a gallery (especially now it’s become a performance activity for people with no real interest in art) or overcrowded museum again Grin

Thisnamechanger · 06/05/2019 21:54

SomethingOnce come to Hackney, we can get lost in a giant Graveyard and pretend it's the country

babysharkah · 06/05/2019 21:55

I live in London. I'm not rich. My house isn't modern.

merrymouse · 06/05/2019 21:56

I think the old television centre is too far out for a fantasy flat. I would want to be in the west end because handy for theatre etc. (This is a fantasy flat so has great sound proofing).

DelphiniumBlue · 06/05/2019 21:57

Its not Wood Green, it's Wood Lane in West London. Not that it makes it worth 4 million, for a flat in an ugly, polluted area. You could a house in London somewhere nice for that, can't imagine who'd live there, not convenient for BBC anymore.

SomethingOnce · 06/05/2019 21:58

Let’s just twos up on a cottage somewhere, namechanger? Bring your own equine.

Thisnamechanger · 06/05/2019 22:05

DelphiniumBlue that's what I meant, sorry...not a fun area unless you really really like Westfield!

Thisnamechanger · 06/05/2019 22:06

Bring your own equine

I've only got bunnies at the moment but it's a start.

SomethingOnce · 06/05/2019 22:12

Better than nothing, nc, but I hope you’ve got a few to keep the grass down while we wait for the horses to turn up (rather hoping they’re like cats and just sort of sense an opportunity and move in).

Thisnamechanger · 06/05/2019 23:23

...and that they already come with amusing Jilly Cooper style puns for names Grin

mingebags · 06/05/2019 23:49

🙄

Chilledout11 · 06/05/2019 23:52

Don't like that flat at all. But the art galleries etc sound great

PawPawNoodle · 07/05/2019 00:09

@Thisnamechanger I got chased by homeless people through that graveyard as a teenager before they installed the lights. It's horrible there.

OP, I've lived in London (Hackney) all of my life and honestly with £4m I'd buy a nice property literally anywhere else and use the change for a lifetime of railcards to visit when I fancied. It's not that great.

Purpletigers · 07/05/2019 00:43

That flat does not look like it’s worth 4 million . I’d rather live in my beautiful house in the countryside and visit London once or twice a year if I lived it so much . I don’t because I don’t . There are much nicer places to live than London .

Purpletigers · 07/05/2019 00:44
  • loved not lived
Gingernaut · 07/05/2019 01:12

You want to live in the old Magic Doughnut?

YADBU.

The surrounding area is a shit hole and workers in the new Media Centre are often given alerts to watch out for muggers.

With this, you have freehold, a central, 'posh' location and £50,000 change.

Cruelstepmother · 07/05/2019 01:55

Four million quid? It's characterless, dark and looks like a hotel, not a home. I'd much rather have the shabby 3-bedroom detached cottage I bought for £172,000 a couple of years ago. And I'm quite happy to accept £3,828,000 compensation for not being able to visit any art galleries!

BasiliskStare · 07/05/2019 02:12

Oh @Gingernaut - if I had the money ( and for the avoidance of doubt I do not ) I would rather have your terraced house rather than that flat

lboogy · 07/05/2019 02:31

That flat is not worth 4m. It's in a shit part of west London . I bet some foreign buyers will buy it because of the history of the building and leave it empty

Seniorschoolmum · 07/05/2019 02:45

Blimey, I used to work in Wood Lane. Things must have changed beyond recognition. I quite liked the market there and there was a wine bar that used to play just the right kind of post-work music. But £4m is absurd.

Gingernaut · 07/05/2019 03:04

@BasiliskStare, I don't have the money either.

I'd love to have the kind of money, where I could have that kind of choice.

BasiliskStare · 07/05/2019 03:09

Ha ha Gingernaut - so would I - but I prefer your choice

Persimmonn · 07/05/2019 03:14

I have nothing to add, but that I stil remember the address and post code thanks to Andy peters. London W12 7RJ.
