How did you come up with your cats name?

Just that really! Our kitten is due to join us in a few weeks time and we can't agree on a name for him!! So, how did you come up with yours, was it a flash of inspiration? A character in your favourite book/tv show etc? We're struggling!

One of mine is named after a famous escape artist as he's a complete escape artist and manages to find his way into the food cupboard like some sort of magic trick. The other is named after a famous crime fiction writer who was known to hang out with said escape artist. The 3rd cat came with her name and it was never changed as it was deemed to be suitably Whovian

Trevor, because I wanted an oldish name. It was a toss up between that and Clive 😬

My cat is Mercury, officially named after the planet Mercury which is grey. Secretly after Freddie Mercury as he loved cats (and I love the band Queen)

I was filling out the petplan form while drinking lucozade. It asked for a name. So I chose Lucozade! Although he now goes by and only answers to Luco Smile

My girl came with her name from the blue cross. She's called Syd. A couple of friends have a trend of she cats with boys names so it seemed fitting!

motortroll · 06/05/2019 22:15

We call her Syd vicious because she's anything but!

Percy was so named as we’d like the name for a kid but our surname means it would sound ridiculous - so figured it was safer to land a cat with it than a kid 😂

Ours was named max because he was twice the size of the other cats in the litter and his full name of Maximus is great when he's being naughty Grin

TroysMammy · 06/05/2019 22:24

Barnaby and Troy after Midsomer Murders.

O'Malley was named when the Aristocats came out on video.

My parents had a blue point Siamese. My Dsis wanted to call him Sandy. The cat was eventually called William because the cat was always complaining in that Siamese way and my Dad worked with someone nicknamed Willy Arseholes who also complained a lot so the name stuck Confused

Childhood cats were Ruby & Millie, after the makeup brand (remember them??)

Our current cat came pre-named as he was a rescue. It's very unimaginative and refers to his markings - Patches. It suits him though.

Relative's Siamese cat was called Kalinka
I had a silver tabby called Danno after my favourite character in Hawaii 5-0
We had Buster Kitten when I was growing up
Our aged Bengal is called Dr Mewler after a character in Tintin because of her loud and persistent mewing. She's Mew or Mewler for short
We would have considered Hoddle or Linkeker if we'd got a boy
I like pet names after favourite characters or "heroes"
