How did you come up with your cats name?

Just that really! Our kitten is due to join us in a few weeks time and we can't agree on a name for him!! So, how did you come up with yours, was it a flash of inspiration? A character in your favourite book/tv show etc? We're struggling!

We have had two cats join our menagerie household after we moved into our present home. Both used to pass through the garden and we gave them names long before they moved in and the names had stuck by then.

The first was named Doppelgänger because he is the double of one of our other cats.

The second was called Little Ginge because he is ginger and we are unimaginative. He is not little - but he did pass through the bottom of the garden and was quite far away. I like to say his name in a French accent and think he should have been called Claude.

HazelBite · 06/05/2019 21:21

I chose "proper" names that I would never give any DC's because they were names I really liked but were hideous with our surname, makes for fun as they call out cats name +our surname.
We have had a Kevin, Stanley, Oliver, Florence, Polly, and Fergus.
Don't name kitty until you've got to know her and her personality emerges.

Tiredmum100 · 06/05/2019 21:21

Aww, your kitten is gorgeous. My cat is called Lilly as when we got back to the car with her when we picked her up Lilly Allen came on on the radio, my sister said what about Lilly, so Lilly she is.

HazelBite · 06/05/2019 21:22

Should read "makes for fun at the vets"

Laiste · 06/05/2019 21:23

I have a blue point rag doll called Pandora. (nick name - Panda. Dh calls her Piddlyanda Grin) I've liked the name Pandora for years - since Adrien Mole in fact! Never had the guts to name any of my DDs it so gave it to the cat.

Her brother was a lovely seal point raggie. He was named after the month they were born. Augustus. (nick name - Mr Poo Poo. No idea why. It had to be said in a heavy french accent GrinConfused)

mathanxiety · 06/05/2019 21:25

Minoushka because minou is French for kitty and she is a fluffy Siberian.

Laiste · 06/05/2019 21:27

Oh and i had 2 'normal' cats before the 2 raggies. I had them together as kittens from a rescue center and they got to 18 years old. One was Angus and one was Baboo. Can't remember why i chose those names. Too long ago!

FireFighter999 · 06/05/2019 21:27

Thanos and Flame! Kids named both, Thanos because of the Avengers, and Flame because our cat is ginger, and because i am a Firefighter!

I've got a Hector purring on my lap

How did you come up with your cats name?
boredboredboredboredbored · 06/05/2019 21:31

Hector because I wanted a strong boys name. He's mainly called Mr Heckels though for one reason 🤷‍♀️😂

Justonedayatatime11 · 06/05/2019 21:35

Well, to give madam her full name she's Aalspotz all out of Africa Princess Flick. What she's actually called can range from Flick to Flickster, poggles, podge and poggleton to name just a few.....

I have always dreamed of Dave. A female Dave.

Dave the cat.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 06/05/2019 21:44

Felix-original as he was black and White.
Titus (groan) as he didn't meow
Orson (wells) fat fucker
Billy
(Cara)Mac -pale ginger
Marmite - lovely black cat (he was alternatively going to be slug)

73kittycat73 · 06/05/2019 21:48

Wow, Aalspotz has the most amazing green eyes @Justonedayatatime11
Loving all the cute kitties and there names.

73kittycat73 · 06/05/2019 21:49

*Their. Blush

LunaLovesgood · 06/05/2019 21:52

When we picked her up she was very very dark, very very scruffy looking and a bit wild. So we called her Bellatrix Grin

She's significantly less scruffy now and turns out she's a tortoiseshell. And the soppiest car you've ever met so she goes by Bella

Bezalelle · 06/05/2019 21:52

Draco!

sirmione16 · 06/05/2019 21:54

@ReSisterNotCister she's an apricot rag doll - a little more unusual than the seal point/grey (they're all beautiful though and I'd live a house full of the floof balls)

Mine came with their names from the rescue. I would have changed Maia's but thought at 5 she'd know it. Turns out it was the rescue who named them as the evil kitten farm owner didn't give them names. Wanted to call them
Zomorph and Fentanyl.

Cheddar also came with her name and it's so cute, it had to stay!

Toddlerteaplease · 06/05/2019 21:56

According to her micro chip. Her name was actually Mini Cheddar.

ReganSomerset · 06/05/2019 21:57

The Rspca volunteers named them. We just kept the names they'd been given.

Catgranny · 06/05/2019 22:01

Snowy - because I let the kids name him and he was white. Sadly gone now but was mainly called fat cat.....he was!
Toffee - ginger tabby. Also sadly gone mainly called Toff Toff
Hamish - because he looks like he should be called that - still here and called Pew Pew......no idea why??
Angus - because I liked it - still here and called little one, but has changed to chunky monkey as he's grown up to be quite a big cat!
I don't think we actually stick with our pets given names!!!!

TreacherousPissFlap · 06/05/2019 22:02

TreacherousDog3 has my "daughters" name hazel!

When it seemed inevitable that DH and I would not be able to have any more children I decided to use it. We did have a slight scare a few months later and my first thought was "what if it's a girl and I've given her name to the dog?!"

Alarae · 06/05/2019 22:03

Always loved the name Millie however my DH vetoed it as a name for a girl.

So I named my furry child it instead!
