Can anyone help identify this plant please?

Hopefully the pics will post. Saw this plant whilst out and about today. Just growing in a car park so not particularly tended to and amongst a few weeds. I really like it but the furthest I can get is narrowing it down to possibly being in the mallow family?

I'm hoping someone on here will know what it is.

No help but it's lovely!

Eatingasandwich · 04/05/2019 16:13

Nice isn't it? I liked the way the heads kind of bobbed about. Plus it must be very hardy so that's good for an amateur like me!

Hellebore?

FiremanKing · 04/05/2019 16:23

Is it a species of dog rose?

Eatingasandwich · 04/05/2019 16:31

Too big for a hellebore I think. It was about 1-2 metre high and across. Although I'm rubbish at measurements. Pretty big though.

And I thought a wild rose or dog rose too but the leaves aren't right I don't think.

Thank you though Sad

Oops! Meant to be a happy face Smile

Oh! Unless it's growing around another plant? Do dog roses do that?

I might need to go back for a closer look.

Ipomoea (morning glory) comes in a few different varieties and colours.

magimedi · 04/05/2019 16:36

I suspect a hardy geranium of some sort. So many of them, though, it's hard to say which.

HarryDaylight · 04/05/2019 16:46

Could it be a spring flowering japonese anenome? The leaves are similar to the pink japonese anenome in my garden.

anyoneneedabodygaurd · 04/05/2019 16:47

Looks like a geranium to me.

HarryDaylight · 04/05/2019 16:49

Sorry, anemone, not anenome.

IndigoSpritz · 04/05/2019 16:56

Could it be a poppy of some sort ? I'm looking at the shape of the flower head and the cluster of seeds. I once saw a purple poppy growing near Manchester Airport, although bigger than this flower.

anyoneneedabodygaurd · 04/05/2019 16:59

Sorry meant to add, take a look at The Hardy Geranium website and I think you'll find it Smile

Eatingasandwich · 04/05/2019 16:59

Going to look all of these up now. The leaves are quite big, hand sized. Not sure the hastily taken pics show that. Thank you all.

Think the cup shaped flower heads and stamen bit (?) aren't quite right for a geranium but close.

Leaves seem the wrong shape and size for a poppy but heads on a poppy mallow are very similar.

Anemone growing pattern is similar but the petal and leaf shapes are different.

All really good ideas, so I'll look further. There's 200 species of anemone apparently!

Maybe it's some weird hybrid of all of them. Wink

You can get an app called "Picture this" that identifies plants for you

BubblegumFactory · 04/05/2019 17:28

Wild poppy?

flowergirl68 · 04/05/2019 18:01

Looks like an abutilon to me.

Eatingasandwich · 04/05/2019 18:05

You might have it flower! These two pics from google...it does look like it doesn't it? Flowers more open but it wasn't a particularly warm or sunny area so maybe it just isn't fully open.

Abutilon? If it's 1-2 metres high and wide, I sincerely doubt it's a geranium! Grin

Eatingasandwich · 04/05/2019 18:07

Abe Thank you, I should get that app anyway. I'm always seeing plants I like but I'm a bit clueless about them.

I really like the look of wild poppies Bubble but I don't think they're the same.

Abutilon could be it! Thanks everyone. Flowers

Ah, cross post!

Eatingasandwich · 04/05/2019 18:08

Sarah I think that's what it is. Never heard of them before. On a mission to get one (some?) for my garden. It's so pretty.

SarahAndQuack · 04/05/2019 18:09

They're lovely! They are fairly hardy, though I know my mum finds they die off in heavy clay soil. You can get different colours too.
