Can anyone help identify this plant please?

Hopefully the pics will post. Saw this plant whilst out and about today. Just growing in a car park so not particularly tended to and amongst a few weeds. I really like it but the furthest I can get is narrowing it down to possibly being in the mallow family?

I'm hoping someone on here will know what it is.

I think that is a lavatera, which is a member of the mallow family.

Packet of love heart sweets to Flower and Sarah and star sticker for everyone else. Grin Thank you! I'm quite excited about finding one to plant now.

I love the lilac purple colour. It was what made me rush over to take a pic. I think our soil is quite clay-ish but some soil improver and composted soil could help maybe?

They're gorgeous too Choir but this is larger. It's def a abutilon. I've got some great ideas for plants from this thread. I like all of them.

I thought lavatera too - kind of mallow as you first thought.

TiredFudge · 04/05/2019 18:42

That looks like a lavatera, they're lovely. I have a lavatera Barnsley Baby waiting to go out in the garden as we speak!

Bindweed?

Eatingasandwich · 04/05/2019 19:08

I'm 99.9% it's an Abutilon like in the link. Smile The leaves match perfectly and it's the right size. I should've got someone to stand next to it for comparison.

A lavatera is similar though. Just not quite a perfect match. Still, a lovely plant and I'll def see about getting some of that for my garden too. I've got quite a few spaces that need filling.

Japanese anemone?

SarahAndQuack · 04/05/2019 21:17

Does anyone bother to read the thread? Confused

The OP says it's two metres high.

It's not a Japanese anemone or mallow, is it?

(Sorry, OP, it's a gorgeous plant and I don't know why I should care people don't read, but I'm sitting here picturing the world's most giant border plants now ...)

Eatingasandwich · 04/05/2019 21:38

Grin tbf I'd love a two metre high geranium. But yes it's a lot bigger than the pics maybe make it look. I'll hold a banana up for size next time.

Yes MN has come to the rescue and id'd the mystery plant now, thank you everyone.

Still appreciate the other guesses though because they're all similar which means I like them too.
