And not desperately upset as most of MN seem to think!

This should be in chat! If anyone can move it?? I'm on my phone on the app so can't see how to report.

I’m mostly curious as to why this is in Arts and Crafts Grin

RedLemon · 03/05/2019 23:27

Wrong board. You must be mortifiedGrin

Persimmonn · 03/05/2019 23:28

I was hoping this would be about a nude art project gone wrong and you were mortified. Oh well 🤦‍♀️

TildaTurnip · 03/05/2019 23:28

TAAT

And wonderfully ironic.

64sNewName · 03/05/2019 23:28

Oh xpost. There should be three dots at the bottom of each post and touching them should bring up options including report.

acatcalledjohn · 04/05/2019 01:28

How mortifying Grin

JaneJeffer · 04/05/2019 11:12

I've never seen anyone using it in the wrong way but I don't hang out in Arts and Crafts Grin

LouMumsnet · 04/05/2019 13:21

OP, thanks for the report - we're sure you're pretty mortified about all this Grin

We've now shifted the thread over to Chat, as requested.

HTH

x2boys · 04/05/2019 14:25

I agree op, also think a lot of people get mixed up.with mortified and horrified.

MissMary0fSweden · 04/05/2019 14:27

Arts and Crafts Grin

You get ‘em told OP, those arty, crafty bastards getting their meanings mixed up. Gets right on my tits!

wheresmyhairytoe · 04/05/2019 15:39

Thank you OP!

I see it used wrongly all the time and was starting to doubt myself.

It drives me mad!

Ohyesiam · 04/05/2019 15:57

And while we’re at it hence means consequently, so “ why “ does not need to be added. It’s not

hence why we moved house,

It’s

Hence we moved house

Can I also add that “Myself” is a reflexive pronoun and not an odd substitute for “me”.

Thank

I feel better now

CoraPirbright · 04/05/2019 15:59

The one that irritates me is ‘defiantly’ when they mean ‘definitely’ . Arrrgh!

TheHumanSatsuma · 04/05/2019 16:05

I hate ‘to myself’ ‘for yourselves’ etc too!

SophieTurnersEyebrows · 04/05/2019 16:20

Using ignorant when they mean rude!

DH has form for this and it makes me so cross!

AintNobodyHereButUsReindeer · 04/05/2019 16:23

Mortified misuse drives me bonkers! DH and BIL both use it wrongly and every time they do I ask them why they were embarrassed at the thing they were actually horrified at. They generally look really confused and are like "What? I wasn't embarrassed Confused "

BogglesGoggles · 04/05/2019 16:27

Oh why can’t the English learn...to speak! I know that song was about elocution but I think it applies just as well this this situation.

iklboo · 04/05/2019 16:27

My boss says 'hence because'. Rage inducing.

AnyoneButAnton · 04/05/2019 16:33

Using “Ignorant” to mean “ignoring someone in a rude manner” is apparently a legitimate alternative regional usage. Confused

picklemepopcorn · 04/05/2019 16:35

Love this thread. Made me laugh out loud again. Happy sigh.

GrouchyKiwi · 04/05/2019 16:37

When I rule the world, everyone will have to read the dictionary daily (in the appropriate language). The Concise Oxford dictionary (the one in two volumes) will be required reading in all English speaking countries.

TreadingThePrimrosePath · 04/05/2019 16:38

I’ve come across ignorant meaning rude as a use in Lancashire, some ‘incorrect ‘ usages are often regional colloquialisms.
That said, I find glottal stops annoying. Bo-ul, wor-a...and mispronunciations like Mafs

Yes yes yes OP.

Everyone is either "mortified" or "fuming."
