Strange feeling in legs

Pantile · 03/05/2019 21:46

Over the past 3 or 4 months I've noticed what I can only describe as a sensation in my legs. I only notice it in when I'm lying in bed at night. When this sensation first started it felt like I was wearing a pair of tight ankle socks. That's how far up my legs this sensation went, from about ankle height to about 6 inches above that. No pain at all but a feeling of possibly heat, tingling, prickling. Hard to find the right word to describe it.

As the weeks passed the sensation moved higher and higher up my leg, it's now from ankle up to my knee on both legs (feels like I'm wearing tight knee-high socks now). I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's so don't know if there would be any connection with that.

Also, not often, but my feet feel like they're burning hot. Does anybody else get anything like this? I don't know if maybe it's a vitamin deficiency or something more sinister.

Restless legs syndrome?

I don't have any urge to move my legs but the sensations mentioned sound similar.

Well, I mean, it's not the fucking Suez Canal is it?

Christ, sorry OP. I have drunk some wine and posted a text in your thread.
Sorry, that was weird.

Greeper · 03/05/2019 22:08

Have you had your B12 and HbA1C checked OP?

Pantile · 03/05/2019 22:08

Eh?

BigStripeyBastard · 03/05/2019 22:09

Sorry.... please ignore me. I'm a disgrace 😫

FiremanKing · 03/05/2019 22:12

I’d get it checked out

RubberTreePlant · 03/05/2019 22:13

Have you had your B12 and HbA1C checked OP?

Yes, check for neuropathy from either of those.

Maybe also try magnesium supplementation?

There will be a cause, even if it takes a while to find.

RubberTreePlant · 03/05/2019 22:14

DVT in both legs simultaneously seems unlikely @FiremanKing , don't you think?

Pantile · 03/05/2019 22:14

BigStripeyBastard, no problem, I was just a bit confused when I read it.

Greeper, no neither of those tested.

OP posts:
Pantile · 03/05/2019 22:17

I take a magnesium supplement every day, Magnesium Citrate 400mg.

FiremanKing · 03/05/2019 22:17

@RubberTreePlant

I’ve no idea, I’m not a doctor.

I took the contraceptive pill as a young woman and after a few days I got funny sensations in my legs, like a flicking feeling. My GP told me to come off the pill and mentioned thrombosis. I never went on the pill again.

It was both my legs and the OP reminded me of that sensation I had.

Pantile · 03/05/2019 22:20

I think when I next see the GP for the Hashimoto's I'll mention it to him. I will also ask if I can be tested for diabetes. Thanks everyone.

It sounds like you have something called parasthesias in your legs. Most commonly described as numbness and or tingling. It's caused by the nerves being compressed or attacked in some way. It can be in the spine or any of the joints in the limb, or generally along the whole length

If you have Hashimotos, you have a higher than normal chance of also having another autoimmune disease (one where the body attacks itself)

I think lupus comes with parasthesias but do some research and see what you can find

TSSDNCOP · 03/05/2019 22:29

Well, I mean, it's not the fucking Suez Canal is it?

You never know.

Dizzywizz · 03/05/2019 22:35

@BigStripeyBastard can we have some context to that please?!

Debenhamshandtowel · 03/05/2019 22:35

Well, I mean, it's not the fucking Suez Canal is it? Is going to be my standard answer to most things from now on. I’d love to know what it was actually the response too. Grin

Anyhow...I can’t on as I’ve got the exact same feeling. I’ve got low thyroid and also some other weird stuff going on that leads me to think my immune system is shot.

Back to the GP OP I think.

GlamGiraffe · 03/05/2019 22:41

You're describing restless legs syndrome. You dont always feel the need to move them or havethem twitch. Having a magnesium salt bath soaks if it help or you can use it in foot soaks you can also get a magnesium spray from health food shopswhich provudes suplemenration differently and is more bioavailable. This may help. Hashimotos can also cause thus as can types of anaemia with low folate levels. If your thyroxinie is still low of is adjusting it might be worsening it, would be goody get a full blood count with folate serum levels for a check even if yputhink there's no way you can be deficient or anaemic.
I'd recommend learning stretching techniques for the different muscle groups in the legs and going in the early evenings and avoiding alcohol caffeine in particular and smoking as they all worsen the condition.
Walking can help.

BigStripeyBastard · 03/05/2019 22:47

Dizzywizz a local weir of the River Calder had an errant barge that broke it's moorings, went rogue, hit a bridge, caught fire and caused temporary mayhem recently. I was just texting a friend about it. 😂
I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to derail the poor OP's perfectly sensible post.

troppibambini · 03/05/2019 22:56

I need to know what's not the fucking Suez Canal.

BigStripeyBastard · 03/05/2019 23:00

troppibambini the Wakefield section of the River Calder is not the fucking Suez Canal. 😂😂 so my mistype was not technically wrong, just misplaced. In fact the Wakefield section of the Calder is about as far from the Suez as you can get.

troppibambini · 03/05/2019 23:06

GrinGrinthank you I can sleep well tonightGrinGrin
Sorry I can't help with the legs.

SpamChaudFroid · 03/05/2019 23:30

The fact that it's in both legs (stocking distribution) is making me think neural caused by vit. B/thiamine deficiency. Do you get the same sensations in your fingers at all?

RubberTreePlant · 03/05/2019 23:34

I need to know what's not the fucking Suez Canal.

I'm guessing it's a street or driveway that someone is making a meal out of navigating Smile
