It's rated 12 and I would say no but dd is telling me half her class have watched it!

depends on the child IMO I am taking mine and my 10 year old and he will cope better than she does (she cries a lot at movies). And its 3 hours.

Nesssie · 02/05/2019 10:49

There's a few swear words and a little bit of violence but it is funny and I reckon a 7 year old would enjoy it. Its not overly sad imo

(Don't want to give away any spoilers!)

Musicalstatues · 02/05/2019 10:49

I don’t think there is anything particularly traumatic in it but I wouldn’t take my 7 year old because of the length!

It's a 12A meaning children younger than 12 may watch it, but at the discretion of their parents. I'll probably take my 7 yo to watch it, we took him to see Star Wars and it seems similar.

You might find the info here useful OP www.bbfc.co.uk/releases/avengers-endgame-film

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 02/05/2019 10:51

Yes I've watched it recently

ReganSomerset · 02/05/2019 10:51

There may be a little exaggeration going on by your DD as to the number of people in her class who've seen it. And a bit of fibbing by some class members. Worth considering.

ReganSomerset · 02/05/2019 10:55

According to BBFC

AVENGERS: ENDGAME is a US fantasy film about a team of superheroes.

Violence
There is regular moderate fantasy violence, including occasional bloody detail.

There is mild threat, mild rude humour and mild bad language including 'piss', 'son of a bitch', 'crap', 'asses', 'dickhead' and 'shit', as well as milder terms such as 'butt', 'Jesus', 'damn', 'frickin', 'God', 'hell' and 'screw'.

Mumofboys95 · 02/05/2019 10:55

My son is 6 and he's seen all the marvel/avengers movies (but NOT deadpool) and he loves them. Might take him to see the new if he's good this weekend lol

Nesssie · 02/05/2019 11:05

There is 2 main incidences of violence (i can pm you) but apart from that the fight scenes aren't that graphic.

PetuniaPetunia · 02/05/2019 11:09

Doesn't sound appropriate for a seven year old. I'd wait a few years. There are plenty of films better suited to this age.

pikapikachu · 02/05/2019 11:13

Has she seen the previous ones? It's hard to understand if you haven't watched the other 4 or at least know what happens. Unless she's very sensitive, I would try her with the first one - Avengers Assemble which introduces the main characters and you can see how she reacts.

eightyseven · 02/05/2019 11:26

Haven't seen the others I know absolutely nothing about them, hence this thread. Didn't realise there were 4 others!

She's not really that sensitive and I think she would be ok with the violence etc but I wasn't sure exactly how violent it was. Was there swearing / hidden adult humour in it- that kind of thing.

And it being 3 hours long! Sheesh! I've endures Bollywood movies that long and it wasn't pretty.

Depends on the kid.

I dithered over taking mine because everyone said they would be traumatised (the last film not this one). We watched it at home and they were totally fine. Ages 10, 10 and 7.

If she’s seen the others I think she’ll be fine with the new one.

EmmaStone · 02/05/2019 11:41

I think it's probably fine (although there is a bit of gore at the end). We went at the weekend and there were lots of young kids, but many kept talking - I think 3 hours in a cinema is a big ask for a young kid TBH, and it was quite annoying.

Isadora2007 · 02/05/2019 11:45

I wouldn’t take a child who wasn’t interested in the avengers, no. Content wise it was fine but she wouldn’t find the story relatable.
My 6 year old avengers mad son loved it. We only went to the loo as the adult next to us needed to go and we all had to get up anyway.

Isadora2007 · 02/05/2019 11:45

Avengers Infinity War was far more traumatic!

Neolara · 02/05/2019 11:50

My 9 yo hates avengers movies. I think for her there is often too much violence and too little plot / humour.

LongtimeLurker29 · 02/05/2019 11:53

My avengers mad 4 year old has been to see it. If he wasn't mad about avengers then I wouldn't have taken him but he really enjoyed it.

EllieQ · 02/05/2019 11:56

My daughter is younger so I can’t really comment on whether it’s age-appropriate. But I agree that if she hasn’t seen the previous three Avengers films, it won’t make much sense to her.

Some of the plot (trying to avoid spoilers) is quite convoluted and could be hard to follow even after seeing the previous films (though I suspect at 7 a lot would go over her head). There is a lot of violence (though not very gory) at the end.

As a PP has said, it is three hours long - that’s probably too long for her age and she could end up disturbing other people in the cinema.

bakebakebake · 02/05/2019 11:57

My 5 and 7 year old have seen all of the movies (except Deadpool) and they love them.

Only swear words in Endgame are "shit" and "bitch" i believe. My 7 year old already knows shit from watching Ant-man.

There are a few dark bits of Endgame and a few sad bits. The film is really long...

BUT i would take my children happily. Infact DS(7) is gutted that me and DH went last week for my birthday and he wasnt invited haha!!

FangsTasticBeast · 02/05/2019 11:58

My just turned 8 year old has seen them all (except deadpool/suicide squad) he’s going with his brother to watch the new one

Grundtal · 02/05/2019 12:01

Content wise it would depend on the child. My youngest started watching
Marvel movies at 7, almost 8. My eldest would not have coped at the same age. I find common sense media is a great website for gauging suitability as it breaks down the movie in terms of language, violence, nudity, drugs, alcohol etc.

However the biggest issue is that If she's not seen any other marvel movies it would be utterly pointless to go. It's basically the part two of a two part conclusion to a huge amount of super hero movies that have been released over the last decade or so.

The avengers is a team of several super hero's. There are four main avengers movies, avengers assemble and avengers age of ultron then Infinity War and End Game which are essentially a two parter conclusion.

There are also many other movies which feature the individual characters themselves. If you google MCU phase four timeline you can see just how many there are.

At the very least you need to understand the basics of the characters and have seen Infinity War. Otherwise you will have no idea what is going on.

Nesssie · 02/05/2019 12:14

If she hasn't seen the others then there is no point watching this one.

leftovercoffeecake · 02/05/2019 13:05

I wouldn't take her if she hasn't seen the others. It would be like opening a book and only reading the final chapter.

3 hours is quite a long time to sit through anyway, especially if you aren't sure what's going on.

RomanyQueen1 · 02/05/2019 13:15

There's a real tear jerker and death according to my friend.
