Anyone up? Not sure whether to call midwife yet!

Been having contractions since yesterday morning and they're now lasting over a minute, every 4-6 minutes or so. Second time mum but I was induced with my first so spontaneous labour is new to me!

App is telling me I'm in established labour but I'm not really in pain with the contractions - just very intense tightenings which I can breathe through without issue. Planning a home birth so assuming a midwife is available, it's just a matter of calling them, but I don't want to do it too early!

The fact I'm posting on here suggests it's too early, right? Or am I going to end up with the paramedics if I don't do it soon?!

Second labours can move very quickly. But I thought 4-6 minutes was still quite a way off? I don’t know though, my second took 45 minutes from the first contraction (it was a kind of permanent contraction though, with no gaps at all between them!)

I think calling for advice is a good idea. Good luck lovely

xJune88 · 02/05/2019 04:12

Just ring and tell them what's happening and they'll advice you or send someone out. Sounds like established labour though! Goodluck! X

@Myfoolishboatisleaning I think you're probably right. Have shifted position and the intensity has dropped so going to leave it for now I think (and let DH get a bit more sleep!).

Morning, congratulations!
Ime of home birth I'd say call the Labour ward to let them know, and you'll probably be told to call back when they're closer together.
Timing wise, in my first labour I had contractions every 10 mins for about 24 hrs then another 12 hrs of them being closer together.
For me, once they were every 2 mins apart (at around 6pm) we asked mw to come and check which she did (at around 8pm) but left, expecting me to take much longer to progress, and I ended up having DD shortly after midnight.
Hope all goes well for you x

rosettesforjill · 02/05/2019 04:26

Thanks all. In between contractions I am absolutely starving so going to find myself some treats and potter about a bit then give triage a call depending on how things are getting on.

I am so excited to have gone into labour on my own - I am 40+10 and thought it was never going to happen!

I was induced with my first too, I'm very impressed you've gone so far at home!! I was told if I had a second to come in quickly as I was 4 hours start to finish (literally to the minute lol) but if I weren't in too much pain as you are, I'd stay home. Good luck over the next couple of hours!! 💪🏻

Ohnotheinlaws · 02/05/2019 04:46

I was told if I'm having about 2-3 contractions every 10 minutes then to call ( midwife said with the second things move quicker and this was right for me ). Walking progressed my labour at this stage but my midwife said rest when and if you can of you need to because if it's true labour it will wake you up and you will no longer be able to rest! I would suggest putting a pad down on the bed though as my waters broke on the bed when I was in your position.
I'm up feeding my 4 week old and 16 month old right now Grin so it's still very fresh in my mind!!... good luck and congratulations!

Blackandpurple · 02/05/2019 07:00

I hope you called them. Even to let the MW know.

Good luck!

rosettesforjill · 02/05/2019 10:58

Well it was probably good that I didn't as they've now petered out entirely. So frustrating!

This happened to me for a whole week every evening with my first until I walked to make them stronger.. good luck- the wait is almost over! X

rosettesforjill · 02/05/2019 12:37

@Ohnotheinlaws I know the signs are good! Just was hoping not to have a repeat of the long drawn out induction I had last time - although at least I'm at home and not hospital Smile

Ooh, exciting! I just rang in to let the MLU know when I was having contractions like that (planned home birth but three weeks before due date) and they sent a midwife to pop in when she was available later that morning just to check how things were progressing. I think I was at about 3-4cm by the time she came but still not really struggling, so she went away and left me to it until things intensified much later that day. I figured they were better off knowing than having to be summoned unexpectedly.

rosettesforjill · 02/05/2019 14:00

@spiderlight that's probably what I'll do if it's similar again tonight. I'm getting a bit close to their 42 week cut off so might buy myself an extra day if they know it's all kicking off!

I'm now getting the odd one I can't speak through so hopefully that's a good sign!

spiderlight · 02/05/2019 14:24
