Feeling a bit scared and alone

So tomorrow morning I’m going into hospital for planned surgery to remove my gallbladder.
I’m a lone parent and my dd has gone to stay with my parents. I’m making my own way to the hospital and having to stay overnight as there isn’t an adult to stay with me for 24 hrs.

I’m a 43 yr old healthy woman. Yet I find myself feeling quite unsettled. I will be fine. But I don’t 110% know I will be.

I’m also alone, I have no one to talk to. To share my fears. I have friends, and family but no one I am close enough to share my feelings with without upsetting them. I am feeling a bit sad tonight.
My parents and my dd love me. But right now my parents need to support my dd.

It doesn’t matter if no one answers this thread. I just needed to say, I’ll be ok, but right now I’m not ok. I’m having a cry on my own with a cat.

Feel better soon OP! Enjoy your nights rest.

SnowsInWater · 02/05/2019 23:16

Glad to hear it all went well. Take care x

cakeandchampagne · 02/05/2019 23:58

Well done! You’ll be home soon. Flowers

It is unsettling. Circumstances meant I did a 5hr emergency spinal op alone plus the 8 week recovery
Surgeon "now there's a chance of paralysis. And someone went blind"
Me Confused "this is why you're a surgeon right, so you only deal with unconscious people?! Because your people skills suck!"

I would have been paralysed had I not had the op, and he called me wilful and said I needed tying down when I refused a bedpan an hour post op Grin

Cats are very comforting, mine tried to help by kneading the stitches. Helpful

What a heart warming thread. The very best of mn. Well done OP , hope recovery goes well.

Zofloramummy · 03/05/2019 09:12

Well I’ve seen the consultant this morning, one of my incisions is larger as my gall bladder was ‘chronically inflammed’. I’m being discharged home today. Still feeling groggy and sore but I’ll be glad to get home.

Zoflora, you sound lovely, I hope your op goes well and you are soon out and about with your dd Flowers

ssd · 03/05/2019 09:18

Sorry am a bit late to the party, seen your ops been done... Good!!
Try to rest as much as you can and give yourself time to recover, dvds for your dd and duvet days for yourself.

Take it easy and rest up, freezer food is your friend till you’re feeling brighter. I was amazed at how quickly I started to feel better and I had no after effects, I could eat anything with no digestive problems.

Zofloramummy · 03/05/2019 11:57

I’m so looking forward to eating nice food! Cheese, sausages, pizza, bacon butties, crisps! I’m going to have to moderate so I don’t put on a stone in a month 😆.

Home now on the sofa watching the Tour of Yorkshire with a cup of tea and contemplating a snooze.

Thanks for all your support

I'm not going to burst your bubble Zoflora but .................... be wary of cheddar , I had my GB out 4 years ago and cheddar causes me extreme pain Sad . Sometimes it is worth it , but mostly , it is not .

Bit late to thread but when I was wheeled into theatre ( I wasn't sedated first , just straight in) I went through the double doors thinking " I could die" but I was really relaxed . And I am terrified of death !

Zofloramummy · 03/05/2019 12:37

Oh I hope I can eat cheddar 🤞 if not at least Edam! Guess I’ll find out in the next few weeks

Cheddar, double Gloucester, Edam, Brie, Lancashire crumbly.............. unfortunately I can now eat them all!Grin

Zofloramummy · 03/05/2019 12:40

I love cheese! Chocolate I’m not bothered about, but a world without cheese would be 😢

How are you doing @Zofloramummy, hope you’re recovering wellFlowers

user1498572889 · 06/05/2019 14:52

Glad u are feeling ok. I had my gall bladder out in 2012. I still need to be careful what I eat. High fat content gives me bad stomach. But at least I don’t get that pain anymore I would rather have given birth again than suffer the gall stone pain.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/05/2019 21:25

Hope you're recovering well Zoflora

You might still be knackered (I found I wasn't in pain after my surgery , my incisions were small, but the GA knocked me sideways, I was surprised how long it took me )

We had tortilla wraps, refried beans, lettuce , salsa and grated cheddar............I now have hideous heartburn Sad but thankfully no right sided pain.

Zofloramummy · 07/05/2019 00:35

I’m surprisingly shattered!

The pain isn’t that bad, worse when I first get up. But really not very painful. My stomach is quite bruised. I’ve managed soup, scrambled eggs, sandwiches etc.

But I feel wiped out! Really tired and lethargic. Hoping that passes off in a few days. I’m napping a lot at the moment.

Enjoy your catnaps. Smile
Good to hear you are home & doing well.

Ineedamanipedi · 08/05/2019 21:06

I had a more minor surgery than yours recently (keyhole) and was exactly the same. Really upset and stressed for a few days beforehand I kept on thinking about cancelling it and I’m not usually a wimp or an irrational person. I think it’s because it brings your immortality to the front of your mind. The fact your getting older (same age as you) and the thought of anything happening and leaving your kids behind. Also you are putting an enormous amount of trust in someone cutting you open who you’ve met once or twice for ten minutes! I think it would be abnormal not to be worried!
But you will be absolutely fine and if its helps - I actually found the coming around after the anaesthetic and having the nurses fuss over me for a bit very comforting!

Ineedamanipedi · 08/05/2019 21:07

Oops - just realised it’s all over now! Hope you’re ok and make a speedy recovery Flowers

Dowser · 08/05/2019 21:11

Aww bless you
Just think I t will soon be over . You’ll get spoiled in hospital. Nurses are lovely
And you’ll be free from awful pain

And you’ve got lovely parents at the helm
Win win
