Feeling a bit scared and alone

So tomorrow morning I’m going into hospital for planned surgery to remove my gallbladder.
I’m a lone parent and my dd has gone to stay with my parents. I’m making my own way to the hospital and having to stay overnight as there isn’t an adult to stay with me for 24 hrs.

I’m a 43 yr old healthy woman. Yet I find myself feeling quite unsettled. I will be fine. But I don’t 110% know I will be.

I’m also alone, I have no one to talk to. To share my fears. I have friends, and family but no one I am close enough to share my feelings with without upsetting them. I am feeling a bit sad tonight.
My parents and my dd love me. But right now my parents need to support my dd.

It doesn’t matter if no one answers this thread. I just needed to say, I’ll be ok, but right now I’m not ok. I’m having a cry on my own with a cat.

When humans live in a cat owned house there is no such thing as a human hierarchy.

Very true! Despite the fact I rescued them but the other way around lol

Babyfoal · 02/05/2019 07:27

Good luck today.

Iwantmychairback · 02/05/2019 07:34

Good Luck today. I’m sorry you have to go alone, it must be so frightening but I’m sure the lovely nurses will look after you.
Can your mum stay with you for a couple of days when she brings your daughter back?

Notjudesmum · 02/05/2019 07:34

Hugs OP. I had my gallbladder out in Dec’16 after 2 weeks in hospital, NBM waiting for a theatre slot. Fortunately I was woken at 7.30am one morning and told I was going down in 15 mins, so had no time for nerves. I had 3DCs at home and although I was uncomfortable for the first few days....the relief of knowing my poxy gallbladder wasn’t going to cause me any more pain was a million times better than the discomfort of the op. Hope you’re up and about soon and feeling much better x

SnowsInWater · 02/05/2019 07:34

That's crap, hope you are ok x

KooMoo · 02/05/2019 07:39

Flowers you’ll be fine.

RichardYeager · 02/05/2019 07:40

Hope you're doing good.

Happynow001 · 02/05/2019 08:05

Good luck today OP. 🌺

I’ll be going to the hospital alone.
Been there, done that several times. I make sure I've got a couple of good books (hopefully you do or your Kindle) plus LOTS of long, slow, meditative breathing which slowed my heart rate and helped keep me calm.

I won’t see my family until Saturday. Check what films are on Amazon Prime or Netflix that you've always wanted to see and/or TED talks online. There's always something fascinating/informative to see/listen to.

Zofloramummy · 02/05/2019 08:56

Well I got about 3 hours sleep! Up showered and packed. Due to be admitted at 11am. Suspect I wont see the inside of the operating theatre until mid/late afternoon.

Thank you for all the supportive messages, it helps Smile

Hope It's all over and done zoflora you are very brave being alone for this, you'll be home and recovering with your dd before you know it Thanks

Zofloramummy · 02/05/2019 20:08

It’s all done, I’m out of recovery and having a cup of tea and a tuna butty. Keep dropping off to sleep and feel quite groggy so I’m actually relieved I’m staying g in overnight.
Thank you MNers it’s lovely to read some encouraging posts and well wishes!

Babyfoal · 02/05/2019 21:20

Hope you get well soon.x

skunkatanka · 02/05/2019 21:50

There is a gallbladder removal thread on here. Lots of us had the same op, including me. I promise you it's worth it. My dh wasn't allowed to stay on the ward with me so I was pretty well alone anyway and enjoyed the rest afterwards without needing to chat. Good luck op

Gramgram · 02/05/2019 21:56

I had my gall bladder taken out 13 years ago, recovery took a while as I was so ill before. It was so worth it. Hope you have a speedy recovery and be kind to yourself. Flowers

IncrediblySadToo · 02/05/2019 22:07

I wondered where the snoring was coming from....

🤣

I’m glad it all went well 🌷

Take the full two weeks off. Do not go back to work because your job is physical and you need to recover fully first. You’ll end up taking more time off and being in pain if you go home too soon.

See if your parents can keep DD a little longer so that you can sleep without worrying about her.

You must look after yourself 🌷

definitelyshouldknowbetter · 02/05/2019 22:20

I’m sorry I’ve only just stumbled across tour thread. I had mine out 5 years ago and I’ve been absolutely fine since, no issues and unfortunately for my waistline I can now eat whatever I want Grin

I was back at work, on my feet all day in about two weeks and for the first few days I kept on top of the pain relief by alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen every two hours throughout the day. I remember trying to hoover about 4days post surgery and thinking oh I shouldn’t have done that so do take it easy.

If you want to chat then chat away on here, don’t ever feel lonely, there’s a load of random internet strangers here to pass the time with!GrinFlowers

And alllllllll the CakeCakeCake

goingtotown · 02/05/2019 22:35

OP You’ll never have that excruciating pain again.
