Yuk! Slightly infected sebaceous cyst - will it settle in its own?

Have one on the base of my back —top of bum— and it’s now red and lumpy.

Will it definitely need any antibiotics or is there a chance that it will settle down?

What’s the Mumsnet consensus?

I had a pilonidal cyst twice. Including when heavily pregnant and couldn't lay on my front or back! Fucking agony they were. I had antibiotics. They mentioned cutting it out but wanted to avoid. Last time was over 11 years ago so been fine since. I remember it got worse very rapidly though so it's good you are being seen tonight OP.

Is it wishful thinking to be expecting a live video feed from 10pm?

I suppose you could say we're all 'behind' her. Grin

Ooooh

‘Behind her’ Grin

Well doctor confirmed it’s an infected cyst. Not of the ‘haul your ass into hospital for immediate surgery’ type but ‘cautiously wait and see if the bugger gets bigger’ type.

So I have a prescription that may or may not be filled and an instruction to sleep on it (not literally though!).

So stand down sporners! Nothing to see until morning and indeed it’s little head might just disappear on it’s own!

Glad it's not the rush to the hospital type. Hope it doesn't keep you awake tonight and that it's much better looking in the morning!

OldAndWornOut · 01/05/2019 22:36

Ah, I'm glad you got it checked.
Lets hope it does burst go down without too much trouble.

Figure8 · 02/05/2019 09:14

Well?

Figure8 · 02/05/2019 09:14

I mean....

How are you today OP?
😄

Grin You are all so good to have my best interests at heart!

My bum is still a little sore. DH (bless him having to check a few times a day) says that there’s not much change since yesterday evening. I feel that it’s a little sorer to sit now and I can certainly feel a low level of pain all the time but not so much that I need painkillers (after having 5 children I have a surprisingly high tolerance for pain HmmWink)

So I’m holding off on taking anything until at least later today.

I would definitely start the antibiotics and nip it in the bud before it gets worse.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/05/2019 11:31

Low level pain all the time is not good.

whothefuckhas5children · 04/05/2019 14:03

Update on my bum boil for those interested Grin

It’s no longer red but there is a lump which is a little sore if I poke it. The lump is getting smaller though.

My GP can take it out so will make an appointment in May. Am not getting another one of these in the future Angry

whothefuckhas5children · 04/05/2019 14:03

Didn’t need antibiotics in the end.

Make sure they can film it!! I mean, I'm so glad it's better 😉

OldAndWornOut · 04/05/2019 14:16

Oh crap good!
Glad you're getting it sorted out now.
