Yuk! Slightly infected sebaceous cyst - will it settle in its own?

Have one on the base of my back —top of bum— and it’s now red and lumpy.

Will it definitely need any antibiotics or is there a chance that it will settle down?

What’s the Mumsnet consensus?

Get an appointment before Friday.

That dark dot is the little pore/follicle etc

foreverhanging · 01/05/2019 17:24

Watching from arms length with eyes half shut. Can't stop looking though 😬

Holidayshopping · 01/05/2019 17:24

Pilondial cyst? Dh had one of these. It was incredibly painful

Yes-DH had this.

It needed 2 lots of antibiotics, an abscess and a lot of pain!

Antibiotics don't work, they aren't even the right thing to do, neither is putting heat on it or bursting it.
Draw it with mag sulphate or get some Kaolin from the vet or online.
Put a dressing on top and wait for it to draw and burst by itself.
My dh started like this and now has stage 3 HS, just moved from stage two.
Please don't burst them folks.

GreenOranges · 01/05/2019 18:36

In my experience you always need antibiotics and they nearly always need to burst. I think once they become red if you don't start antibiotics in a day, then you have to go through the whole drama of it getting worse, having it burst, draining and then finally after about 2 weeks starting to heal. Good luck - hope you get to see someone today who can help.

Best thread of the day 😂

My brother had to have a pinolidal cyst removed/excavated. He had to have a week or two off work and the hole was so big the district nurse used to come round and pack it!

whothefuckhas5children · 01/05/2019 20:43

Thank you for the flowers!
Went to a pharmacist and he had the same story - he had one himself and it was an open wound for two weeks! He was face down bottom up in hospital under the open wound healed Shock

Out of hours will see me at 10.

My poor bottom.

Whilst I feel sorry for you, actually I don't as it's made my evening !

Frouby · 01/05/2019 20:49

Oh no OP, your poor arse.

I get a little sore spot right in the sneck at the top of my bum crack, it tends to go with a few days of sudacreme though. Hope mine is just a side effect of sat working at the kitchen table for too long every day and not brewing something dramatic.

CrotchetyQuaver · 01/05/2019 20:53

Sorry I'm late returning. I think it started on 15 December and it burst naturally on 23 December as I was waiting for the OOH GP to burst it as I couldn't bear the pain any longer. In the interim I'd been and shown it to a GP wearing holey knickers oh the shame and they'd given me antibiotics but they didn't touch it.

SauvignonBlanche · 01/05/2019 20:56

Good luck OP Flowers Gin

Shamelessless placemarking for the blow by blow updates... seriously, if you don't film it being treated you're not welcome back here alright?

OldAndWornOut · 01/05/2019 21:02

Joining the queue of people waiting for updates. Blush

MrsDilligaf · 01/05/2019 21:06

Eeek. That's a good one!

Lisette1940 · 01/05/2019 21:17

I had a pressure bandage stitched in place which produced a Poirot like walk for a while. My pilonidal cyst has never returned.

Hope you get some relief OP.

Summertime2 · 01/05/2019 21:36

Ouch! Interested to hear what the out of hours say

Tolleshunt · 01/05/2019 21:39

Poor you, OP, I don't envy you one bit.

Your loss is our gain, however....

ThomasRichard · 01/05/2019 21:40

Blatantly here for the photos.

OldAndWornOut · 01/05/2019 21:43
