Can lions eat cake?

...and other stupid scenarios.

The other day after making a cake I wondered if, on the off chance I ever needed to save someone from a lion pit and had been baking, if I threw a cake into the pit would it distract them like a dog would be distracted by toy?

And would they try and eat the cake, and realise it was edible? Or would they ignore it because they know it's not meat? Would they like the taste of buttercream or do they only like raw meat?

If anybody else has anything else stupid to ask/ponder, please don't hesitate Grin

One of my cats would eat a pancake. He also likes cream, ice cream and bits of cheese

WeAreAllAdults · 30/04/2019 16:27

Why is it whenever people see a ghost it's always a Victorian type looking person? Why do you never see a 70's ghost in full disco get up or even T-rex ghosts charging about the place? Hmm

Surely Lions only eat bars?

My cat eats buttercream and anything else you leave out. Greedy pig. But she is not a lion who eats carcasses so I'm none the wiser.

Valid point about the ghosts - never any unsightly looking ones either unless it's horror films!

Beachbodynowayready · 30/04/2019 16:36

My dcat is easily swayed to my way of thinking with vegetables...

InsertFunnyUsername · 30/04/2019 16:38

I dont have a lion unfortunately, but the next best thing (My cat) would eat or atleast stop what hes doing and have a sniff, if i chucked any food on the floor. So i would say yes, and always carry a slice just in case!

GooodMythicalMorning · 30/04/2019 16:40

or maybe a big ball of yarn in your handbag?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 30/04/2019 16:40

My late cat was particularly (and peculiarly) fond of raw mushrooms and Stilton. Strange creature! The diet seemed to suit him though; he lived to a ripe old age...

Ohyesiam · 30/04/2019 16:41

The tiger who came to tea did.

Years ago I made a Tres Leches cake. I accidently spilled a little of the tres leches mixture (evap minl, condensed milk and cream) on the floor and left it for a few minutes to see if my cat would come in and clean it up for me. She soon arrived, and duly did what I asked of her.

I turned my back on her to get the meringue topping from the mixer, and by the time I turned back she'd followed her nose and decided to continue the clean-up operation off her own bat. Yep, she'd found the cake and decided to lick the cream off that too!

So, I'd say that if there was cream and sweet stuff involved it's highly likely the lion would give it a lick at least!!!

AnneTwackie · 30/04/2019 16:44

What if pooing in public was ok and blowing your nose was unacceptable?

AnneTwackie · 30/04/2019 16:45

Like ‘ooh bless me! I have the shits today’ but keep hayfever quiet

ExCwmbranDweller · 30/04/2019 16:46

If you carry the cake in a box you could throw that down separately then if the cake was resisted it would be called to sit in the box as a further distraction.

Hanumantelpiece · 30/04/2019 16:47

I think you'd have more luck with a large cardboard box. Cats love boxes.

headinhands · 30/04/2019 16:47

I think the cat would like the sugar. But that said wild animals literally live from meal to meal so the lion would be very hungry.

Theninjawhinger · 30/04/2019 16:51

My cat doesn’t realise she’s a cat and seems to love all human food. Can you carry an emergency roast dinner as well? She is particularly fond of gravy.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/04/2019 16:55

Cats can't detect sweets according to this very reputable source Grin

here

I was wondering today while having a very intellectual conversation with my 3 year old about tigers, whether any other species have regular sized and giant/big versions? Eg yes you have big dogs and small dogs, but they're all still dogs. Big cats are properly big, like a different species, but still absolutely feline.

TinselAndKnickers · 30/04/2019 17:08

Ooh excuse me, AnneTwackie, could I borrow a tissue? I've got a dreadfully big shit about to plop out, hehehe!

I think it depends if it was a cake vs nothing, they would eat the cake. Bleeding zebra vs cake, the cake would be trampled.

This scenario:

Somehow (don’t dwell on it) we all wake up one morning and have to make a choice or we evaporate. The choice is between -

1- having the head of a random dog or

2- retaining your human head but an uncontrollable urge to sniff the bum of every person you meet anywhere at any time

3luckystars · 30/04/2019 17:13

I have often wondered if blind people dream. I know a blind woman but not well enough to ask that (probably very offensive) question. She is so lovely though she would probably laugh.

I think the lion wouldn't be interested in the cake unless it was rabbit cake.

Baloonphobia · 30/04/2019 17:17

Our dog ate the Christmas cake once.

TinselAndKnickers · 30/04/2019 17:18

JapaneseNotWeed as we ALL wake up and make that choice, I think I'd have to go with the bum sniffing one in the hopes that people would understand. If not, I wouldn't go out in public either way so it doesn't matter Grin

I think the best way to distract a lion would surely be a giant laser pointer? Great big red dot to chase around should do it. I always remember a boy I liked in primary school had a cat, the cat stuck its head in a bag of toffee popcorn and came out covered in bits of it. Hilarious.
