Can lions eat cake?

...and other stupid scenarios.

The other day after making a cake I wondered if, on the off chance I ever needed to save someone from a lion pit and had been baking, if I threw a cake into the pit would it distract them like a dog would be distracted by toy?

And would they try and eat the cake, and realise it was edible? Or would they ignore it because they know it's not meat? Would they like the taste of buttercream or do they only like raw meat?

If anybody else has anything else stupid to ask/ponder, please don't hesitate Grin

I look like a disappointed spaniel so I have no problem with changing my head, particularly as I get older. I couldn’t do the bum sniffing Tinsel it would mean never getting invited to Royal Ascot anymore (though I’m sure Glyndebourne would be ok).

One of my cats would love cake especially with buttercream or fresh cream. The other doesn't deign to look if you drop prawns salmon or steak pieces so I'm doubtful he would look at cake. Dogfood however he can sense from 100yards Hmm

My cat (not quite a lion) likes cake but doesn't like icing. I discovered that when he snatched a cake DC had bought home from a birthday party, ate it but left bright yellow icing on the floor for DC to step in. I spent a miserable time consoling DC who no longer had cake and cleaning bright yellow icing from the narrow grooves in the bottom of her shoe. That not-quite-lion also eats peas, broccoli, curry, chips, most human food though, so you never know. Would the lion prefer human food as in a human to eat, or human food as in food meant for humans?

If there's cream in it I reckon so. But I wouldn't like to clean out its litter tray afterwards Grin

Cats love boxes

They certainly do.

Another stupid question - if car A went into the back of car B, causing B to go into C and so forth all the way up to Z, would A be at fault for all of it or would it be between each car with beef?

Round here it's not unknown for the occupants of car a and b to know each other and for neither to have insurance. And everyone gets whiplash, a day in court and a pay out.

elephantoverthehill · 30/04/2019 17:58

If your baking attempts produce random results like mine, you could throw the cake at the lion and knock it out.

TinselAndKnickers · 30/04/2019 18:23

I suppose I could try and have a Madeira on hand... denser than a vicky sponge!

What if you made a tiger loaf?

LittleKitty1985 · 30/04/2019 18:34

Cats can't perceive sugar. & I'm sure a living person would be far more interesting to them than any other inanimate food.

Lions raised in captivity may not attack though - they're unlikely to be very hungry or have the skills and experience of hunting live prey.

I'd say throwing rocks at the lion would be a better plan than throwing cake...

Rock cakes it is then. Problem solved.

TinselAndKnickers · 30/04/2019 23:02

Tiger loaf is a good idea.

Well in this scenario I can't throw any rocks as I only have a cake!

See, if cats can’t perceive sugar, I’d love to know why my pair: have not only hunted out jam doughnuts but then gone after the jam in the middle; will steal & demolish cereal bars should they be left unattended for any length of time; apparently have a taste for vegan marshmallows; will try to make off with any biscuit they see; have been caught licking a bowl that had had vegan ice cream in; & are basically a menace when it comes to sweet stuff. As a kitten one of them ran off with a cake about the same size as him & was enthusiastically “killing” it on the threshold of my room by the time I got up the stairs after him!

They do also come after savoury foods - apparently “obligate carnivore” doesn’t mean much to them as they try to filch vegan lasagna/shepherds pie/assorted pasta dishes/marmite sandwiches/croissants/crisps.

They’ve never been given any human food. They’ve managed to try a quite impressive amount by mugging & fridge-raiding (fridge is now locked) though.

So yes. Lions probably do eat cake. But shouldn’t. (Unless some weird meat-cake thing.) And as PPs have said, send it down in a box & they’d be made up...

Sugar mice were made for cats to eat

Toddlerteaplease · 01/05/2019 20:25

One of my cats would definitely eat cake. She likes to thinks she's a fearsome lion. (She's the soppiest thing ever) does that count op?

Brahumbug · 01/05/2019 20:36

Regarding blind people dreaming, look up Helen Keller. Blind and deaf from birth she described her dreams before she learned to communicate.

moonrises · 01/05/2019 20:38

tinsel it would be each car's fault that went into the back of another, as technically they should leave enough space to stop before hitting them.

When there has been a big pile up, such as the massive one on the M42 in 1997 the police had to painstakingly work out and number each car in order of the crashes.

Langrish · 01/05/2019 20:38

Apologies if it’s been mentioned. But Tigers do. They enjoy coming to tea. So above average chance lions do too would be my guess.

TinselAndKnickers · 01/05/2019 23:18

Well both of my queries have been answered. My cat does indeed eat buttercream and cake so I assume a lion would too, so I would be able to save someone in a lion pit if I happened to have a cake with me. Good to know.

Anyone else got any scenarios?Grin
