Anyone a member of David Lloyd?

Websites like this really annoy me. I just want to know how much a membership for any time access (not including racket sports) would cost for the year. But they never tell you, you have to give your contact details and then they'll get in touch. I don't want to talk to anyone on the bloody phone! Just gimme a price ! Grin

Anyone know? I'm in South Wales so it wouldn't be the ultra expensive London prices, I assume

Agree with you. Am in London and went to see one last year to consider joining but didn’t. From memory, was something like £350 pcm for me, husband and daughter. So probably £150 per adult. I don’t remember an non-raquets option. It was full membership but on/off peak options.

Might be cheaper out of London but we joined a virgin as so much cheaper

Fatted · 30/04/2019 11:48

When I went there about 2012 (pre kids) it was about £50. I'm north Wales, so bit cheaper too.

Personally, I'd look at something like pure gym etc instead. David Lloyd are like the old fashioned gyms, tie you into year long contracts, do the hard sell etc. It was a nice gym, lovely pool and lovely big Costa type Cafe in it. But I got constantly mitered by 'personal trainers' there trying to get business etc. I hated going in the end.

Fatted · 30/04/2019 11:49

Or maybe about £60? Remember it being quite expensive. I didn't get the racquets included in mine.

theowlwhowasafraidofthedark · 30/04/2019 11:50

Where I am in the south (outside London) it is £95 per month basic £120 for access to all the clubs and racquets

Hollowvictory · 30/04/2019 11:52

Used to be a member, it was very expensive but was great. Like a commun centre for wealthy folks. We moved and did not use it as much so left. Was brilliant when kids were little as they could do classes whilst we were exercising. Loved the pool too, and having an outdoor pool in summer, bliss.

Hollowvictory · 30/04/2019 11:52

The price varies depending on their targets which is why it isn't on their website

itsboiledeggsagain · 30/04/2019 11:54

We are members in Birmingham - pay 200for a family of 5. Absolutely worth it for us.

Whatdoesitmatteranyway · 30/04/2019 11:54

I was a member 20 years ago and loved it. Was a nice place to train and relax.

Re-joined a year ago. Non raquet membership with national club access was £69 or £87 for my local clibs (knowsley and warrington).

However I hated it. Seems to be mainly family and children focussed now rather than adult focussed as it used to be.

Have just cancelled my membership and joined pure gym.

WokenUp · 30/04/2019 11:56

Thanks for the replies, I'm already a member of a £15 a month bare basics type gym which is fine BUT the best yoga classes are at this bloody David Lloyd. And I went to a naice hotel recently with a proper pool and it's reminded me how much I enjoy swimming lengths.
We don't have a virgin gym near, I don't think.

It makes sense about targets changing their prices. Hmm. I might just pop in there to ask, I hate talking on the phone

I hate gym advertising when they won’t tell you what their prices are in the information.

I’m not giving out details to anyone else to bombard me with FB messages and emails, if they can’t be bothered to let me know whether I think it’s value for money.

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 30/04/2019 12:09

They won't give the information as they are under pressure to sell (and upsell).

One of the reasons I joined my place was because they said "you pay £50 a month and this is what you can get for that , and it's all on a month to month contract, so you can cancel whenever you like and that's that"

Name4theSexBoard · 30/04/2019 12:10

Prices vary hugely from club to club, area to area. You can reduce it slightly by choosing off peak, non racquets but it is still a very expensive gym.

I’ve just cancelled my long term membership, I’d been a member for around 7yrs. Full raquets, peak membership. £127 per month (not a London or SE club). Crazy money really, especially as lots of stuff was an expensive extra on top of the basics, tennis lessons, PT sessions, swimming lessons. I cancelled my membership because I just wasn’t using it enough and they’d increased memberships so much in the last 12-18mo that the pools (1 indoor, 1 outdoor, 1 for tinies), the gyms and the classes were full. You couldn’t do a clear length in the pool due to the sheer volume of people in the water (often families waving pool noodles about the place).

Plus, maintenance jobs weren’t being kept on top of as I would expect. A gym of that price should be immaculately maintained and pristine but there was often a couple of exercise machines out of action (often the same ones), and there were maintenance issues with the fabric of the building and fixtures and fittings that were taking a very long time to repair, despite members complaining about them. Not good enough, tbh. Charge premium prices, deliver a premium experience but that’s not what was happening in the end.

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 30/04/2019 12:11

See - they don't even try and hide it. They are called Sales Consultants!

Did this DL used to be a virgin by any chance?

WokenUp · 30/04/2019 12:27

Ooh I'm not sure ShivD as I'm relatively new to the area (Cardiff)

OP posts:
billybagpuss · 30/04/2019 12:28

DL took over most virgin gyms last year

RonSwansonsMustacheComb · 30/04/2019 12:29

Edinburgh rate is roughly £55-70 per month depending on whether its single or double membership.

JudgeRindersMinder · 30/04/2019 12:30

Mine is £55/month for me (non racquets) and £23 for ds till he’s 18... I could get cheaper but it’s almost on my doorstep and I’ve made a lot of good friends there

cathyandclare · 30/04/2019 12:49

Mine's £95 pp for non-racquets but premium membership (towel, spa access, nationwide and lots of guest passes). It's expensive but lovely and I go loads. DH and I get enough passes to cover DD in uni holidays too.

ShivD · 30/04/2019 13:01

@billybagpuss there are only 2 DL’s in South Wales so it’s pretty easy to guess.

OP, that’s not the one I know so can’t help with the prices there, sorry.

NicoAndTheNiners · 30/04/2019 13:04

£93 a month with corporate discount, non rackets, non premium.

It's a bloody rip off compared to other DLs. I'm in the north and think I belong to the most expensive DL in the country with the least amount of classes and facilities. (I frequently stalk the online timetables of other DLs). Problem is there's no competition here so they charge a fortune and get away with it.

nornironrock · 30/04/2019 13:38

We are in the Midlands, and pay 195 all-in for a family of four. Love it. However, we know it is very expensive!

Do beware though that there may be a slightly cheaper one not much further away. In our case, there are two, but they're both much below the standard of where we are.

Squirrel26 · 30/04/2019 14:23

£90 a month for me, anytime access, no racquets (no courts at my branch). Have to pay extra for the bloody towels though, which irrationally pisses me off!

I used to do at least 5 classes a week, which made it worth it, but am in the process of leaving (beware, I was on a 3 month notice period) as I just can’t get there often enough any more.

Ohhellothereladyface · 30/04/2019 14:25

We used to be members. Was £75 a month each (with discount from OH’s work)
Nice gym, lots of classes, nice cafe, but I will say the one we went to was full of posers and quite intimidating which put me off going a bit.

PARunnerGirl · 30/04/2019 14:28

Scotland £68pcm, one adult, no add-ons like rackets etc
