Child screaming when not getting my food??

Milamh · 27/04/2019 18:28

I have a daughter 1 year and 3 weeks old. Shes started doing this thing where she screams and throws herself in a strop if I have something to eat and dont share with her. For example, shes eating her dinner right now, and I'm very warm after cooking veg on the hob, so I grabbed an ice pole. She went a little crazy screaming and shouting because I didn't give her it. She does this with EVERYTHING. She cannot watch me or her other mum have any kind of food without screaming for it to be shared. It's to the point if she doesnt get it she throws herself back full force them screams because shes mad. And also, shes started putting her hands down her throat and choking herself until shes sick?? I'm not sure what to do because shes still very young, but she will hear the russle of a sweetie or here me and my partner eating and that's it, screaming and shouting and having a full melt down. What do I do?

Haha have you had the broken banana tantrum yet?

Don't eat stuff in front of her that you don't want her to have and a tiny bit of me wants to say communal eating best but tis the weekend and I hope you will have a slap up takeaway when baby in bed.

Usuallyinthemiddle · 27/04/2019 19:01

I think your answer is quite clear! Eat what she's eating!

QueenofCBA · 27/04/2019 19:05

Sensible advice has already been given, in to more important things: where the heck are you all from to call an ice pop a pole???

Ice pole makes no sense though! It’s an ice pop, like frozen pop... it even says so on the packets. Guess in must be a regional thing, I eat barm cakes so I shouldn’t judge too heavily.

archivebuildingsite · 27/04/2019 19:06

Alb1 a lot of Scottish people call it an ice pole. I call it an ice pop but didn't want to "correct" a regionalism. The phrase "I grabbed [a food item or drink] winds me up to, but people say it...

Bringbackthestripes · 27/04/2019 19:07

Come on, OP, why would she want her dinner if you are eating an ice pop in front of her? And of course she goes mad when you're eating sweets without her. Who wouldn't?!
^ this. Poor kid. Of course she wants the sweet sugary treats. How mean to eat them and not share anyway. Either wait until she is in bed or be prepared to share.

dementedpixie · 27/04/2019 19:09

I'm Scottish and it's an ice pole here

MrsGrannyWeatherwax · 27/04/2019 19:09

Ice pole here too! (Missing the point)

dementedpixie · 27/04/2019 19:10

Have you seen that video of the woman trying to stealthily eat an apple with her child on her lap? This thread reminds me of it

slipperywhensparticus · 27/04/2019 19:10

Ice pole is American,?

SoHotADragonRetired · 27/04/2019 19:12

Welcome to motherhood. This is why we eat the good stuff secretly, when they're in bed.

dementedpixie · 27/04/2019 19:15

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6937293/Mother-pretends-watch-TV-avoid-caught-eating-apple-greedy-nine-month-old-son.html sorry it's daily mail but the video is on there.

Nameusernameuser · 27/04/2019 19:15

Put your food on your plate along with her's. Shell think she's sharing but she's just having her food.

But mostly, don't eat that stuff Infront of her, I eat in the kitchen behind the baby gate so I can just eat my toast in peace Grin

Longdistance · 27/04/2019 19:17

You need a pantry to hide in. Any sign of a packet even opening and you’re busted!

Smoggle · 27/04/2019 19:18

To be honest my 8 year old would throw a strop if I ate sweets and ice lollies in front of him and didn't share...

Eat meals with her, and eat treats out of sight.

MrsLinManuelMiranda · 27/04/2019 19:20

Ice pole, ice pop, freeze pop, tip top ..... So we all call it something different. Talk about derailing a thread!

dementedpixie · 27/04/2019 19:22

Ah but some people don't accept it can be called different things

Lllot5 · 27/04/2019 19:25

If I had to eat a plate of veg while others around me had ice pops and sweeties I’d throw a tantrum too.

DameSylvieKrin · 27/04/2019 19:25

I don’t think it’s anything to with what you’re eating, My 1.5 year old just screamed for the spinach on my plate while sat in front of an identical plateful. It must just be a phase.
She also screamed for her brother’s medicine so she’s just going to have to learn that there are some things she can’t have. I’m also not going to give up drinking tea hot because she wants it and can’t have it.
Other things she wants include sharp knives and cleaning products. I can’t refrain from using all these things while she’s awake so she will have to learn.
It’s easier now she’s understanding speech more.

Alb1 · 27/04/2019 19:30

I can accept it, it was a lighthearted comment Hmm

Anyway what does it matter if the thread derailed a little, OP came back and make 2 snarky comments because people didn’t agree with her and hasn’t been back again yet since... it’s not like we’re making her miss the good advice.

Cheby · 27/04/2019 20:37

Yeah you can’t sit and eat ice lollies and sweets in front of your kid and not share. Well, you can, but you’ll get the reaction you’re getting now.

Just wait another 6 months OP. At least this is a rational tantrum; you have something ’better’ than her and she wants it. When shesnin the full swing of toddlerhood she’s going to lose her shit over all kinds of random things.😂 DD2 is 2. She absolutely loses it if we dare take food out of a packet and offer it to her. If you offer her a chocolate button from a pack she will throw it away in disgust and scream the place down. She will only eat it if she’s allowed to hold the packet. This has resulted in her not getting any chocolate on a number of occasions but still she persists. Just this afternoon she lost it because I asked her to put the water toys she was holding down on the poolside so she could enter the water safely. Despite being super excited about swimming, she decided if she couldn’t climb in holding the toy she would rather not swim at all. Toddler logic makes no sense. Best to just choose your battles and eat sweets hiding in a cupboard like the rest of us.

meepmoop · 27/04/2019 20:49

Ice pole here in Cornwall!

RubberTreePlant · 28/04/2019 00:51

) I now know why I was advised not to use this site 😂😂

IKR? All this honest advice is unforgivable Confused

midsummabreak · 28/04/2019 00:59

Make icy pops from probiotic yoghurt & mashed fruit, freeze in ice pop making containers & share ice pop love together Or buy healthier ice pops & share after shes had some main meal

skankingpiglet · 28/04/2019 01:05

There could be worse to come OP. As a toddler my eldest would race over, jam her little fingers in my mouth, and prise my jaws open if she thought she saw me chewing. "What eating Mummy? Say ahhhhh...". I learnt to use ninja-style snack-eating skills. Or to shove my head in a cupboard and cram the snack in whole. Saying things are really spicy occassionally works, but mine are developing a taste for chilli now so it's rarely an effective deterent these days. The little buggers ate a large portion of our chilli coated peanuts last weekend 😫
