Does anyone sleep with earplugs every night?

Just wondered about this. I am one of those unfortunate people who needs complete darkness and silence to sleep. The darkness is provided by blockout blinds, but the silence is sometimes harder to arrange! (Neighbours partying, birds singing at 4 am,etc!) I have recently resorted to earplugs on a few occasions - just the cheap foam ones. I find them really uncomfortable, but they do help. I am thinking of investing in some better ones.

I wish I could wear earplugs. I have hearing loss in both ears and if I used ear plugs to block out the noise I can hear I would never hear my alarm clock.

I do, and have done since I was 12 and my sister was born. I can’t sleep without them. I have used them at hospital when my sons were newborn, I always always have them. The silicone ones are the best.

Yes and have done for 20 years can't sleep without them

I use Quies wax ones and have tried many others but I find these are the best for me. I started using them 25 years ago when doing night shifts and we had builders in during the day when I was sleeping.

DH makes the noise of a chainsaw in bed when snoring so I need to block that out these days, although more often than not will escape to spare bedroom.

I’m like you in that I like it dark and quiet to sleep. But I absolutely hate the feeling of earplugs. I’ve used silicon plugs in the past but I’ve found that the feeling of them in my ears is worse than being able to hear noise.

Both me & my DP use these ones. Extremely soft & mouldable & they do the job great 👍🏻

Can be bought on eBay

Re white noise machine - I bought an aventek one. There a loads available. Mine has good selection of noises designed to suit differing types of noise you are trying to mask and also different hearing levels. Immune also has an aux input so I can link up my iPhone to listen to podcasts or music but I tend to do that through an ear bud. It also allows you to link headphones either corded or Bluetooth.

I tend to use earplugs more often but white noise helps sometimes with general anxiety/alert type sleeplessness caused in my case by recent bereavement-linked sleeplessness.

Better still my John Lewis blackout curtains. Incredibly effective even in high summer and not too expensive. Wish I had bought them years ago.

Good luck all. Elusive sleep is a pain.

Love my silicone ones, just cheap from ebay. I can still hear baby cry and alarms but it blocks train noise which is loud where I live and Dh snoring!
