Today my son told me I should be in an old people’s home.

Last week we did jetskiing, buggy racing, up a mountain together.
I didn’t think I was ready for a home just yet.
Sad

Oh well if you are over 30 you are ancient !

FiremanKing · 25/04/2019 13:32

Tell him to be quiet or you’ll put him back from where he came from.

That used to shut mine up when they got lippy.

picklemepopcorn · 25/04/2019 13:34

Is this a stroppy toddler, a stroppy teen, or a concerned adult you are talking about? if the first two, brush it off. Mine called me an ugly old troll. If the third then that's a bit more worrying. Clearly you are fit and active. Why is he thinking like that?

Erythronium · 25/04/2019 13:35

What were you telling him he couldn't do/couldn't have?

chandylier · 25/04/2019 13:40

Stroppy teen years on their way.
I’d told him to get dressed at least 5 times
Brush his teeth at least five times
Get his shoes on at least five times.

I’ve ruined his life, he hates me and “I could say something mean but I’m better than you”
Me- “just say it, what are you thinking?”
You’re really old, and you should be in an old people’s home. You’re nearly 50”
I’m 48, he’s 11

Is that the best insult he could come up with? Grin. I think he needs to work on his descriptive insults a bit more! Grin

Erythronium · 25/04/2019 13:43

"I’m 48, he’s 11"

Which is why you shouldn't be taking what he says to heart. Or giving him openings to be rude for that matter.

HumpHumpWhale · 25/04/2019 13:44

😂 little monster. I'm kind of dreading that age. At 5 they're still so sweet...

Easterbunnyhashoppedoff · 25/04/2019 13:44

I live next to a care home. I often remind my dc I can't wait to go.
For the peace and quiet!

  • I am 47!!
cushioncovers · 25/04/2019 13:44

I'm 48, my ds is 19 he referred to me as elderly the other day and not in a sarcastic way, he was being genuine 😩😩🤷🏻‍♀️

Happyspud · 25/04/2019 13:45

My 3 yr old told me out of the blue ‘someday you will die mummy’. And then walked off.

TheGrey1houndSpeaks · 25/04/2019 13:45

Where does he imagine he would live when you’ve been carted off, I wonder?

chandylier · 25/04/2019 13:46

I’m not going to do get well through the teenage years, am I?

It did make me laugh, I’m not worried about him thinking I’m old. But I hate the “I hate you”

Xeroxarama · 25/04/2019 13:47

Mine told me ‘you actually have dementia’.

notacooldad · 25/04/2019 13:49

Mine told me that years ago.
I told him he would be going to the workhouse if he wasnt careful.
It took him 2 days to realise we don't have workhouses any more!!🤣

mimibunz · 25/04/2019 13:49

Tell him he can’t talk to you like that until his voice changes.

juneau · 25/04/2019 13:50

Ha! My 11-year-old says that to me too (although I think he's joking ...). He's always reminding me that I have a clutch of grey hairs at the front, which I point out I didn't have until he came along. Wee shites, the lot of them.

notacooldad · 25/04/2019 13:50

Its just a phase and will pass!

Mine says ' God you are soooooo annoying, it's a good job I love you isnt it!!'

MinesaPinot · 25/04/2019 13:52

SmileSmileSmile

My mum (82) said that she didn't want to end up in an old people's home. I told her not to worry, I wasn't going to waste the money, I was going to bump her off and bury her under the patio. Her response was 'Charming, well then I'm going to go and live with DS'. I still treasure the look on my brother's face when she said that.

She then said that as we obviously don't care about her, she's going to blow our inheritance on, as she puts it, 'Having Wild Times'. This I gotta see......

By the by, we do really love our Mum Smile

notacooldad · 25/04/2019 13:53

I said that once!!! Ds2 ( the one who thinks he's a comedian spent hours putting on a squeaky voice and said is that enough of a change!!

He's just a knob at times ( my current insult to him, it's ok he's 19 now!!!)

PerfPower · 25/04/2019 13:54

10/11 is the worst age for some boys, mine was really sullen for about a year then we sailed through his teens with no problems. Hopefully yours will be the same, but on the scale of horrible things kids say to their parents - I've heard worse!

AlunWynsKnee · 25/04/2019 13:55

I remember ds looking at me sadly and saying "I don't think you deserve to be my mummy" Shock

EdWinchester · 25/04/2019 13:55

Gosh, he’s really rude! It might be funny (or is it?), but I’d be knocking disrespectful backchat like that on the head.

YetAnotherUser · 25/04/2019 13:56

The most scathing insult I've yet to have from my eldest was at dinner time after serving a meal that I'd slaved over:

"If you owned a restaurant, I would never go there".

Naturally if I owned a restaurant riff raff like my kids wouldn't be allowed in, but that's a moot point Grin
