Period pain down to my knees - how is that even possible?!

Hi all,

As per the title, and I'm sorry if _Chat isn't the right place for this but I've literally got period pain across my lower abdomen, in my hips, thighs and down to my knees. I've never had it this bad before (maybe once as a teenager) so what's going on?!

The only time this happened to me it turned out I had a kidney infection. Are you going for a wee more than normal? Hope you feel better soon

FlibbertyGiblets · 23/04/2019 22:23

Lovely, innit. Who'd be a woman, huh.

Do you have endo? I got dreadful dragging pains all down legs, javelin arse, clots you would not believe, period poos, on and on. Oh and ovulation pain too. DELIGHTFUL.

Hurrah for meno!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 23/04/2019 22:23

I used to get it like this, but not since I was a teen. All the way down my thighs. I get it bad during ovulation now sometimes instead Confused

It's an exciting new symptom I've also had for the last few months too - really bad period pains, and an ache /shooting pain down to my knees 😞

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 23/04/2019 22:25

It's common for me- adenomyosis 😭
If it keeps happening see your gp

scratchyfluffface · 23/04/2019 22:26

Omg @FlibbertyGiblets, you have just described me every month, I get all that (and also feel like someone has take a baseball bat to my foof) - every time I've spoken to the GP they just give me (useless) painkillers and send me away with a 'you'll just have to deal with it'

Squiff70 · 23/04/2019 22:28

I don't know if I have endo but I am starting to suspect it to be honest (not just because of this but other symptoms too).

We're TTC and I lost twins in January at 19 weeks but have had two normal and one VERY light period (possibly a chemical) since. I get severe ovulation pain too but this is different and I haven'T even started bleeding yet (sorry if TMI)! FUCK it hurts!

I used to get this. Thank goodness for the Mirena.

FlibbertyGiblets · 23/04/2019 22:29

Please ask GP for a ref to gynae specialist. You don't have to suffer. Flowers

megletthesecond · 23/04/2019 22:30

I used to get those pains down my thighs too.
It stopped when I had a hysterectomy, although as I still have my ovaries it must have been a physical thing and not just hormones.

Squiff70 · 23/04/2019 22:38

It sucks being a woman at times doesn't it? Sorry some of you have been through this too. I'm going to have some co-codamol and go to bed I think!

Squiff I'm so sorry about your twins.

TrickyKid · 23/04/2019 22:43

Yep, I get this but luckily not every month. It's shit.

Downthecanal · 23/04/2019 22:45

I was about to suggest endo. I had most of mine burnt off and it’s a bit better.

Good grief who would want to be a sodding women eh. My fadge has been the bane of my life. Sad

Redcrayons · 23/04/2019 22:49

Yep, endo for me too. Now I'm peri-meno ovulation is more painful than my periods.

Foottunnel · 23/04/2019 22:53

I had this most months through my teens and twenties. One (male) doctor told me it wasn’t possible. Twat.
It’s pretty much stopped now, but the other stabbing hideous period pains haven’t. Ibuprofen helps.

sproutsandparsnips · 23/04/2019 22:54

Could you be pregnant? If so could these be symptoms of ectopic pregnancy? If this is possible I would seek medical attention if it persists.

MindyStClaire · 23/04/2019 22:55

Since you're TTC and haven't got your period yet, and this isn't normal for you, I think you should get checked out in case of an ectopic.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your twins. Flowers

whitehalleve · 23/04/2019 23:04

The only positive thing I can say is that childbirth will be a breeze for you in the future. I've always had terrible period pain. But then I gave birth and it was just like a bad period. Took 2 paracetamol and I was done. I bet you'll be the same!

Squiff70 · 23/04/2019 23:26

I'm not pregnant, I've done a test tonight just to make sure and got a BFN.

I get this every month. Feels like my knees have been whacked with a baseball bat. My GP blames it on fibromyalgia. It is 2 days before period and stops on day 2. Don't get it any other time. It is agony and no one takes me seriously.

Squiff70 · 23/04/2019 23:34

@clairethewitch70 How frustrating for you! I do actually have fibromyalgia so maybe that has something to do with it. Doesn't help you though, I'm sorry.

I used to get pain like this every month for about the first couple of days, it was across the floor of my abdomen, often in the muscles of my vagina, down my legs, & often across my back. Thankfully it got better after I had DD. Definitely push for a gynae referral/ whatever it takes to sort it out. It's not normal to struggle to walk or function normally, & to flood for a couple of days every month, despite what some health professionals would have you believe. In the short term, hot water bottle, the adhesive heat pads, & painkillers (especially ibuprofen), warm baths do help. Also chocolate!

DaisyDreaming · 23/04/2019 23:57

Do you get constipated or bloated? I swear nerves get pressed on at the start of my periods,

Defender90 · 24/04/2019 00:00

Sympathy I feel like it's from my chin(S) to my knees this time around.
