Would I miss my bath if I got rid of it?

Considering taking out the bath and just having shower enclosure. We currently have shower over the bath.

Would I miss the bath? Does anyone just have a shower in the house?

I just have showers(no kids though) I hate baths. No regrets about having the bath taken out recently.

Chilledout11 · 23/04/2019 12:50

When was the last time you used it? Would it affect your resale value. We have young kids and I love the bath also use it to soak items (cleaning fridge trays etc) but loads of people don't have one

Angelinthenightx · 23/04/2019 12:52

If u like a bath u will miss it, i know people who have got rid of their bath and have hated not having one.

I love baths. Wouldn't buy a house without a bath unless it ticked absolutely every other box, and I could afford to redo the bathroom to put a bath in.

happyhillock · 23/04/2019 12:52

I got rid of my bath 3 year's ago totally regret it, i miss just lying and relaxing in a bath, one of my friend's a few year's back had quite a serious operation she was told to have a daily bath, she couldn't as she'd got rid of it, had to go to her daughter's everyday for a bath.

DustyMaiden · 23/04/2019 12:52

It’s a question you should know the answer to better than anyone else. Don’t use it for a few weeks and see if it bothers you.

DerelictWreck · 23/04/2019 12:52

I only have a shower. Don't miss the bath at all as I never use them.

Instead, I have a huge great big walk in shower which brings me joy!

DesperadoDan · 23/04/2019 12:54

Don’t do it!
When I brought my house the whole main bathroom was a wet room, I thought we could live with it, turns out as soon as you don’t have a bath you crave one, especially on a cold winters night to warm your bones before bed.

The bathroom was the first renovation I did and have a lovely big tub which is well used.

Villanellesproudmum · 23/04/2019 12:54

We never use ours however will keep it as is for when we sell.

PandyCuff · 23/04/2019 12:59

Not planning on selling the house. I DO use the bath but have been unable to, due to disability for a couple of months, which made me think I could do without it. Kids only use shower apart from very occasionally.

It is really nice, when you are cold to the bones and tired though, huh?

Need to update bathroom so have to make a decision

We'll be getting rid of our bath soon. I haven't had a bath in years, never really liked them. Now our dc are older they have showers too.

I wouldn't get rid of your bath if you like having baths or have/are about to have young children, or if you might want to sell your house soon.

dustarr73 · 23/04/2019 13:05

I got rid of my bath about 6 months ago.Got a shower in.Its brilliant.Instead of 1 bath,we get 3 showers out of it.
I only really wanted 1 bath since we took it out.And that was when i wasnt well and just wanted a soak.

PeonyTruffle · 23/04/2019 13:06

Keep it. 100%

ExpletiveDelighted · 23/04/2019 13:10

I have a bath once a year max but I'd hate to not have the choice.

Woolly17 · 23/04/2019 13:13

Depends... My parents (in their 70s) don't like stepping in and out of the bath these days so they'd be really happy without one. I have a bath maybe twice a year, so would not personally miss it but DH loves a bath as does DD (not quite 2) so it would be disastrous for them.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 23/04/2019 13:43

My mum (in 70s) got rid of hers and has a wet room now. She was worried longer term about getting in/out of the bath so also did away with a shower cubicle too. Good thinking ahead and she could easily have a shower seat or rails put in at some point in the future if needed.

However, when we visit, DS had to bath in a big rubber tub in the wet room. He wouldn't stand up in the shower. Now he's nearly 4yo, he's had a few showers and will tolerate it for a weekend, so short lived inconvenience. Luckily mum has a big rubber tub for putting her washing out so we borrowed that!

I would do it. If you were selling and it might be a problem, you could always put a bath back in. I'm definitely one for using your house as you need to now.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 23/04/2019 14:16

No one has bathed in our house for years and years. Even when DS2 was a toddler he hated baths. He used to stand up in the bath and I had to hose him down with the shower attachment.

Now our baths just get dusty which is quite annoying.

ShatnersWigIsActuallyAMammoth · 23/04/2019 15:20

Another of those who would never buy a property without a bath. I shower daily but on a Sunday night I like a good soak as a wind down for the end of the week. If I've been out sailing and my muscles are a bit achy I like to bath then too.

Redglitter · 23/04/2019 15:23

If I had a choice of 2 houses one with a bath & one without I'd go for the one without every time. I hate baths. Total waste of space. I'm planning on having mine removed soon & replaced with a nice big shower

It's all down to personal choice though

Tensixtysix · 23/04/2019 15:25

NO! Keep the bath. Shower enclosures are the work of the devil!

FiremanKing · 23/04/2019 15:31

We would never get rid of a bath. Showers for getting clean but a bath for relaxing and great for minor back ache.

lucysmam · 23/04/2019 15:47

We only had a shower when we moved in here. LL replaced the walk-in enclosure with a bath & over-bath shower.

It's nice to have the choice, if you like a soak!

JuniorAsparagus · 23/04/2019 15:50

We did this when we moved two years ago. I think maybe twice I have thought it would be nice to have a bath. Otherwise it has been fine.

InsertFunnyUsername · 23/04/2019 16:13

We had a shower and i missed my bath so much, now i have a bath and miss the shower ffs

pallisers · 23/04/2019 16:15

No one has had a bath in our house for years. When we redid the house, I kept the bath in the family bathroom purely for re-sale value. No one uses the bath and the kids would much have preferred a large walk-in shower like we have. If you weren't worried about re-sale I would just take it out.

As we get older a walk-in shower is way safer because of risk of falls etc anyway.
