What age do you teach DS to wee standing up?

Just that really. I have 2 young boys, one still in nappies. The other is almost 4 and goes sitting down. I don't see any reason to change this anytime soon, as I feel it's easier for him to not cover himself in wee. His father thinks he should go standing up. He can't reach to see standing up without a step and gets it on his clothes every time he's tried. We have a step at home but obviously won't elsewhere.

Nah no rush on that at all. My dh pees sitting down at home as does my ds7, ds14 stands up to pee. Its a choice thing really and tbh once they start standing up to pee you will have more wet floor and loo seat incidents. Enjoy the puddle free floor while you can!

ArfArfBarf · 22/04/2019 18:07

Never. Nothing good will come of it.

Shmithecat2 · 22/04/2019 18:09

I haven't and I don't intend to. Ds had been dry for a year now, and still sits down to pee. I don't understand the need for them to stand up 🤷‍♀️. Less chance of mess sat down.

My son has been doing it since he was 3 and tall enough to reach the toilet it's how he's seen dh do it and wanted to do the same

Easterbunnynearlyhere · 22/04/2019 18:10

Ds toilet trained standing for a wee.

RightOnTheEdge · 22/04/2019 18:13

My ds is 6 and sits down. He cries if anyone suggests standing up. It's always ended with dribbled on shoes and down the front of his trousers if we have ever tried when out in an emergency.

GarthFunkel · 22/04/2019 18:16

Never. Ever.

Mother of 3 sons, wiper of all spills, purchaser of antibacterial wipes, replacer of urine-rotted toilet seats.

Just say no.

TooMinty · 22/04/2019 18:30

I didn't bother, he learned himself when he started school and saw older boys using urinals. Save yourself the mopping!

Cookit · 22/04/2019 18:33

Oh interested in this, my 2 year old wants to wee standing up now. Managing to get him to sit down for now but he clearly wants to change that.

leghairdontcare · 22/04/2019 18:34

DS is 5 and recently 'mastered' it. It is a nightmare. I would not hurry.

PetrichorRain · 22/04/2019 18:35

DS has been seeing standing up as long as he could stand! Not in the toilet until he was properly toilet trained at 3 though, he used to do it in the bath at night, or sometimes the potty, but usually just in his nappy.

PetrichorRain · 22/04/2019 18:37

Slightly outing myself now if any of my friends read this... he used to dribble on the floor sometimes but stopped that recently. I thought his aim had improved until I found him using the hand towel to mop up his drips!

Birdie6 · 22/04/2019 18:38

My DH showed DS how it is done, and he caught on straight away - he was about 3 at the time. Never had a problem with it.

PetrichorRain · 22/04/2019 18:38

He very rarely gets it on his clothes, however.

MinnieMountain · 22/04/2019 18:42

DS decided to when he was 4. DH wees sitting down, so I think DS just worked out that it's quicker.

nauseous5000 · 22/04/2019 19:05

My ex was taught he had to sit by his single mum. It was his only redeeming quality 😂😂

YonWeeLassie · 22/04/2019 19:20

Never. There are enough spills and accidents without bringing that into the equation.
They are adults now and still sit down at home. I presume they stand in public toilets but I didn't need to teach them.

sighrollseyes · 22/04/2019 19:26

My DS came home from nursery about 6 months ago (age 2.5 years) said "friend do stand up wee", and he's done it ever since standing on a stool to reach the loo. There's a lot to be said for watching their peers.

Neptunesgiraffe · 22/04/2019 19:29

My son did it when he was about five. He probably learnt from other children at school. But you don't need to teach this. I did have to teach him to wipe round the toilet, however. Wee splashes are grim!

Vanannabananna · 22/04/2019 19:32

Since 3 years old with my ds. No drips or spills.

BrokenWing · 22/04/2019 19:32

Never taught ds, he worked it out copying boys at nursery.

megletthesecond · 22/04/2019 19:35

As soon as they're toilet trained.
Nursery taught DS around the age of 3.9, which was just as well as I'm a LP. I was dead impressed when we went for a walk and he dashed off to wee behind a tree.

He never misses either (he's 12 now). Never had a jot of wee aiming trouble from him.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 22/04/2019 19:35

DS was 3 and wanted to be like daddy. Has really good aim and never gets it on his clothes. He's 5 now and if there are any splashes on the seat or floor he's been taught to wipe up with anti bacterial wipes

NoWordForFluffy · 22/04/2019 19:35

DS learned just after he turned 4, before he started school. He's actually quite good at it (I've only ever had a wet floor once, and he always misses the rim of the bowl too).

blackteaplease · 22/04/2019 19:36

Ds1 was 5, picked it up from school as I was on no rush to encourage it. He has terrible aim and frequently wees all over the seat.
Ds2 is 3.5 and sits on the loo but will stand in the shower/garden/if caught short and doing a nature wee. He can't reach yet and I'm happy for the sitting to continue.
