How much would you pay for this meat order?

Having a chat with a friend and she couldn't get over the cost of our recent meat order. It seems perfectly reasonable to me. I use a local butchers who are fab. All the meat is local (they rear their own pork and beef, lamb is farm next door and chickens are also local), and all high-welfare, very high quality, grass fed, free range, etc.

Our recent order consisted of:
3kg of beef mince
1kg of turkey mince
1.5kg of sausage meat/pork mince
8 sausages
14 chicken thighs
2 whole large chickens
20 chicken breasts
A beef joint (topside) to feed 6 people

Just curious how much you would pay for this order? Oh and to add, this is to prepare some meals ready for when our baby arrives next month and the rest will easily see how through for at 2-3 months.

£55-65 I think would be reasonable

SilverySurfer · 20/04/2019 14:59

I reckon £170 ish

babysharkah · 20/04/2019 15:02

£200

Around £100? That seems a huge amount of meat to me so maybe that’s why they were shocked.
Hope op comes back

jackparlabane · 20/04/2019 15:04

Given some sort of bulk discount I'd guess £100 - £150?

ticketsonsalenow · 20/04/2019 15:04

You haven't ordered enough sausages.

LazyFace · 20/04/2019 15:05

I'm sure it'd be over 200. A Lidl organic chicken is £6, a high welfare one is £8 or 9 at my local butchers.
I think it's great that you care where your food comes from and support local farmers.

Thesearmsofmine · 20/04/2019 15:05

That would be around £110 at our butchers.

GiveMeFiveMinutes · 20/04/2019 15:05

I am really irritated that you posted this two hours ago and we still don't know the price you paid.

Everythingmagnolia · 20/04/2019 15:06

My guess would be around 120 but I don't think OP is coming back

Iwannasnack · 20/04/2019 15:07

Maybe she’s feeling foolish as it actually cost her £800

DoubtOfTheOrdinary · 20/04/2019 15:08

Christ on a bike. This is why we'll never be able to eat "ethically". But it's a nice idea if you can afford it! £150 is almost 3 weeks full grocery shops for us (2 adults) - meat, veg, cereal, bread, rice, potatoes, cleaning and bathing products, the lot!

Three cars and a mortgage.

Following with interest for two reasons 1) well done for supporting your local farms and food businesses where traceability and presumably welfare are high on the agenda, rather than going for any old thing off the shelf (yes, yes, I know lots can't afford to shop like that but let's not have another '£100k isn't enough' thread 😂) and 2) I only know the lamb and pork prices I need to charge to break even so I'm interested in what this came out at.

ChariotsofFish · 20/04/2019 15:13

Given the guesses on here for this, lots of people are in for a big shock when prices drift towards Northern European norms after Brexit.

BrilliantYou · 20/04/2019 15:13

At least £150 unless discounted for more you buy etc

Bgrt73 · 20/04/2019 15:16

Aren't the 'I can make a roast chicken last for a week' brigade out in force today.

FiremanKing · 20/04/2019 15:16

Op won’t be long. She’s just getting changed.

InsertFunnyUsername · 20/04/2019 15:17

Id say £100 as a quick guess, maybe more £120.

CatToddlerUprising · 20/04/2019 15:17

I buy through Muscle Food and pay about £55/60 for that amount

roundligament · 20/04/2019 15:18

170?

MidnightBlue00 · 20/04/2019 15:23

100-150

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 20/04/2019 15:38

From a local butcher that would amount to around £120 depending on the size of the chickens, the thighs and the quality of the mince, possibly up to £140. If organic you could frankly double it.

SmellsLikeAdultSpirit · 20/04/2019 15:42

I only read to the end for the answer
Will we find out?
