Good pasta sauce in a jar?

I loved Seeds of Change tomato and basil pasta sauce when it first came out, and I've used it for years. A few years ago it changed - still nice, but no longer extremely nice. Recently, it changed again. Now it's too sweet, too thin and runny, and it tastes processed. I need to find a new tomato sauce in a jar. (I'd be interested in good recipes, but to be honest, I'm not really going to get around to making my own all that often, as I detest cookery.)

TBH I haven't found any jar of tomato sauce that doesn't have a nasty, harsh artificial taste. As Isthis has pointed out, making your own hardly counts as cooking, and tastes much nicer.

Failing that I do rate the Sacla pesto range, so I would be happy to try anything else they make.

I really do think that onions, garlic, passata and a dollop of pesto is going to taste way better than anything from a jar and is just as easy to make.

Garlic comes ready chopped in jars. I whizz up a big batch of onions in the blender, freeze them, then just use as needed.

I agree with the Loyd Grossmam sauces.

The only tomato pasta sauce you will ever need

Tin of tomatoes
Lump of butter
Peeled and halved onion

Simmer for ages. Remove onion. Liquidise if you want to.

I usually do a whole load at once in the slow cooker because it freezes really well.

Well, that’s annoying!
I clicked on the thread to read all of the ones from the Knit your own yoghurt brigade telling you how to make your own sauce with recommendations on precisely which varieties of tomato to grow...and the majority of you have actually answered the OP’s question in a sensible fashion.

Alternative recipe

Tin of tomatoes or fresh ones
onion
Garlic
Olive oil tbsp
Pinch of sugar (one one, regardless of quantities.
Squirt of tomato purée.
Herbs if you want any.

Fry onion, add garlic, fry one more minutes, add tomatoes, cook for 30-60 minute. Serve.

It really works to make about 10 tins worth in a huge pan and freeze eg in takeaway containers or old jars. Sometimes in September I use a whole crate of fresh tomatoes. If you use 10 tins, you only need 4-5 onions. In fact, you can adapt the recipe pretty well in terms if time or quantities or ingredients for what you have in. You can reheat straight from the freezer. Kids sometimes used to get one out themselves, and chuck over pasta and cheese if I was out (teens obviously).

Right, I have copied the two recipes into my cookery file, and I have a list of all the suggestions. Thank you all!

Homemade tomato sauce is so easy to make and freeze in pots, can't understand why you'd bother buying it.

It’s not a tomato sauce but Waitrose Roasted Red Pepper and chorizo pasta sauce is bloody lovely 😊
