How do you clean your shower?

I'm very nearly 40 years old and have no idea how to keep a nice clean shower.
We have a glass walk in shower, dark grey tiles, grey grout. It always looks disgusting.
Our boiler was out of action so dd popped to her friends house for a shower. I would genuinely be mortified if someone popped round and asked to use the shower!
How can I keep it looking at least presentable?
I'm generally rubbish at cleaning (extremely tidy house but if you look closely not particularly clean) so other cleaning tips gratefully received too

@GilmoreMe - that’s all you need! Good luck!

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 16/04/2019 17:04

It's great that lots of you dry the shower after using it, I can see that that is by far the best solution ..... BUT how the hell do you get everyone else in the family to do the same?!

Any tips for the door seal. Mine has gone green after being installed for 18 months. (Sorry to hijack the thread).

Viakal here too. But not the spray. The original one in the more pour-y squat bottle.
I do it after every shower more or less.
Also got sliding doors with little ridges and grooves that get repulsively gunked up. Bleach cleaner and elbow grease there.

kittybee · 16/04/2019 17:25

Sheldonandmama Often if I’ve gone to a property where the seals have gone green, I remove them and soak them in the bath in a strong mixture of water and bleach. Leave overnight if you can, and rinse off.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 16/04/2019 17:45

We have a water softener, so I wipe the shower screen with a microfibre cloth after every shower and go over it with the Karcher window vac every now and then. The tiles are matte and don’t need much. The shower trap gets scrubbed with an old toothbrush head every week and I use Viakal on the chrome bits.

MummyMCM · 16/04/2019 17:49

@ohmygodtheykilledkenny

😂😂 the only way is to wipe it down once the last person has showered!

@sheldonandmama

This happened to me, we ended up removing the seal completely and putting a new one in. Tried removing and bleaching but still looked ropey. You can buy them from B&Q / amazon. Is it a seal that’s replaceable?

MummyMCM · 16/04/2019 17:51

@kittybee

I want you to be my cleaner!!!!!! Don’t suppose you live in Kent by any chance do you!!!

I didn’t know you could do that! Ours is disintegrating Blush. Was it easy to do?

kittybee · 16/04/2019 18:15

MummyMCM Unfortunately not! But any cleaning advice please pm me. I’ve got good tips for cleaning a microwave, removing tomato stains from clothes, and removing the garlic smell from skin. Random I know!

nighttimebrowser · 16/04/2019 18:33

I use a multi purpose spray a few times a week to keep it sanitary and smelling nice, and once a week we bleach the bath & scrub the tiles.

holly873 · 16/04/2019 18:37

Method daily shower spray. I used to hate cleaning our shower but since using this after my morning shower I have noticed a big difference in the shower screens staying clean and reducing the amount of actual cleaning needed. It smells nice too, the yellow one anyway.

Babynamess · 16/04/2019 18:46

I've had good results nursing Limelite, leaving for a bit then scrubbing off with The Pink Stuff.

Holidayshopping · 16/04/2019 19:16

bleach the bath

Sorry to seem daft, but how do you use bleach in the bath, nighttimebrowser?

Runny bleach or thick? Diluted? In a bath of water? How long for?

FelicisWolf · 16/04/2019 19:38

Are the tiles and grout unclean too? Use mould and milder cleaner on them - just spray it all over, leave for a few minutes then wipe off

stayathomer · 16/04/2019 19:40

OP right there with you ... And taking notes!!!

Tombakersballs · 16/04/2019 19:47

This stuff is amazing!!

I also use spray bleach on the tiles/grout - never any need to scrub!

JustDrained48 · 16/04/2019 20:00

Viakal & a used toothbrush.
Cleaner here- first thing I do at the beginning of each & every clean is spray the screen & use my trusty toothbrush to get in all the nooks.
I use a microfibre cloth to make sure every part of the screen is covered. Leave as long as possible then get in the shower (blue shoe protectors on)
Rinse
Squeegee off.
Day cloth - wipe/buff all taps/shower heads etc
It’s a labour of love & always try to encourage my clients to spray a couple of times a week

JustDrained48 · 16/04/2019 20:00

Dry cloth !

Mydollymolly · 16/04/2019 20:06

I get in it with a nylon scourer and a bottle of cream cleanser.
Undress, turn shower on, rinse everything, leave shower running, scour everything with cream cleanser, rinse off, shower self, get out.
Job jobbed.

francienolan · 16/04/2019 21:43

We have a shower curtain up between the shower and the glass. Originally it was just for preventing water from leaking out but it also prevents the hard water from getting to the shower door.

nighttimebrowser · 18/04/2019 08:22

@Holidayshopping Diluted of course, usually just on the bottom layer of the bath to help keep the mat sanitary.

We scrub the rest with a spray or a tiny dot of bleach.

GilmoreMe · 18/04/2019 08:36

I tackled it yesterday and it looks fantastic!
