UK bucket list suggestions?

I'm living in the UK for the next year or so and am trying to do and see as much as I can in this time. I live in a fairly central part of England and now that the weather is warming up I'm really trying to make the most of every weekend I have.

I've been to London many times and have been to Bath, Oxford and the Cotswolds too. But I'm keen to hear what your favourite places/experiences are - I'm trying to put together a list of must do things to tick off before I leave. The Lake District is definitely on there, as is the Jurassic Coast, but there are so many places to go and things to see that I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed! I'm keen to see places and do things that are a bit off the beaten track so not necessarily keen on doing Cornwall in the height of summer Grin Scotland would be a bit of a stretch target but hoping to get to Edinburgh at least!

Hit me with your must do places and hidden gems please Grin what would you prioritise if you only had a year to do it in?

England? Or do you mean the United Kingdom?

The Millwnium Walk starting at LLanelli

Do a long weekend on a canal boat. You get a really different perspective.

The North York Moors are absolutely brilliant.

The Forest of Dean.

I would still urge you to do Cornwall but wait until September/October. Head West and spend a few days walking stretches of the coast path and seeking out Neolithic monuments. If you camp, I highly recommend the campsite at Treen cliffs.

The Welsh coast; Anglesey is lovely, as is Aberdyfi way. We went to Barafundle Bay in Pembrokeshire recently, which was gorgeous.

Second, hiring a canal boat. Do it up in North Wales and then you can go over pont cysyllte as PP also mentioned. Amazing experience.

Vale of Rheidol in autumn is a lovely railway journey. Waterfalls at the other end.

Biancadelrioisback · 13/04/2019 16:28

The sycamore gap in Northumberland is beautiful. Take a picnic and go at sunset

chocolategivesmehives · 13/04/2019 16:32

Northumberland - the coast is absolutely beautiful, and if you like walking you can walk for hours in the Cheviots and see nobody.

Lake District - western lakes, so Crummonk, Buttermere, Wastwater, Ennerdale, much less crowded.

North York Moors and the coast - villages like Helmsley, Pickering, then Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay on the coast.

Suffolk is lovely - Aldebrugh and Southwold - walk along the harbour side at Southwold for fish and chips. See Maggie Hamblings she’ll sculpture on the beach at Aldeburgh. RSPB at Minsmere is a great place to spend an afternoon.

Wye Valley, Herefordshire and Shropshire, some of the quietest parts of England, full of apple orchards. Brockhampton, about my favourite National Trust place in the Uk - a place to live and die in. Hay, for the bookshops.

Coventry Cathedral. It was bombed in WW2 and the ruined cathedral stands alongside the ‘New’ (1960’s) Cathedral. It’s an incredibly poignant place and the New Cathedral is a masterpiece of 60’s design. The story behind the rebuilding is very moving.

Dunstanburgh Castle (you have to walk the last couple of miles
Farne Islands
Cragside (stately home)
Giant’s Causeway and/or Fingal’s Cave (boat trip from Iona)

Durham Cathedral
