Just that really, what one unsolved crime/mystery/news story do toy wish would be solved?

For me, its Madeleine McCann. It may well just be because of the age I am, its one of the first ones I remember really clearly as it happened.

What about you?

I feel so much for Lynne's daughters
I looked up some newspaper interviews and read that one of the daughters is convinced her dad, Chris Dawson, had nothing to do with the disappearance.

34plus4 · 10/04/2019 22:46

@notacooldad yes the older daughter doesn't believe he did it and thinks the whole investigation/podcast has been a witch hunt.

The younger daughter who was only 2 when Lynette went missing still has contact with Lynne's side of the family, she has limited contact with her father and really suffered from the abuse from Joanne as a child. I feel so terrible awful for her, she never had that mothers love, she certainly didn't get it from Joanne.

She has a baby of her own now and they recently took part in the memory walk for Lynne.

It's an insane case, I just really really wonder what happened to her?

VestaRose · 10/04/2019 22:59

Theresa Halbach and Margaret Flemming, google the latter, very odd. Unfortunately I think she was drowned in the sea :(

user1493423934 · 11/04/2019 00:43

Hmm interesting re the Lynne Dawson case. I haven't listened to the podcast but regarding Joanne, apparently she was treated really badly by Chris, not allowed to leave the house etc, the daughter she had to Chris was ignored by him, and Lynnes family had total sympathy for her seeing her as a victim as well. But I guess we don't really know. 1980's was so different in high schools - Chris and Joannes relationship was common knowledge apparently. Dodgy.

GroundhogWeek · 11/04/2019 03:03

Daniel Entwistle - fairly local and he just seems to have been forgotten.

Ncjustforthisone111 · 11/04/2019 05:51

My dad. NCed for this one as it's really outing if anyone knows me. He disappeared in the 1980s whilst on the other side of the world for work. Checked into his hotel, was supposed to be there for a couple of nights but didn't check out and pay the bill which alerted the hotel staff something was wrong. When the police searched his room his passport and wedding ring and wallet were all there. 35 years later and still we have no idea what happened to him. The most likely possibility was deemed to be that he'd gone swimming in the sea early in the morning and got into trouble with no one around to help, but we will never really know.

Other than that, Claudia Lawrence for me, and also Lorraine Ridout which is a local case a few years ago. She left her house to visit a friend and was never seen again. No phone and no money with her if I remember right. It never really got much attention apart from the local papers and I felt so sorry for the family.

Ncjustforthisone111 Oh wow that must be so hard. Flowers for you and your family.

Ncjustforthisone111 · 11/04/2019 12:41

Hi both....the investigation was closed fairly quickly I believe as there was literally nothing for them to go on, no clues at all.

It has affected me quite badly in some ways, but mainly it's just a fact of life for me now. I settled it in my mind a long time ago that the most likely scenario is that he died in some sort of accident, but I wont ever really know. I spent a long time when I was younger thinking he might come back but eventually that stops. I find Fathers Day very hard though.

I do feel incredibly lucky though that although it's left me with some anxieties and personality traits that I wouldn't otherwise have had, it's not affected me being able to live a 'normal' life and I don't have any serious MH or emotional issues as a result. It doesn't define me in any way. I do wonder sometimes how different my life would have been if it hadn't happened, but I think that is probably the same for anyone who experiences any kind of traumatic issue at some point in their lives.

AssangesCat · 11/04/2019 13:02

fridacakehole, you sent me down a wormhole. I'd never heard of the Dyatlov Pass incident before. After you mentioned it I looked it up and ended up watching a movie about it on Amazon Prime last night. The movie turned out to be very much in the vein of the Blair Witch Project if you're interested, and came up with a ludicrous explanation that I wish I hadn't seen just before bed.

LittleBlueFish · 11/04/2019 14:03

I don’t think anyone’s mentioned Asha Degree. It just doesn’t make any sense why a little girl would leave her house in the middle of the night. She must have been groomed, but by who?

BangingOn · 11/04/2019 14:22

Kyron Hormon is another very strange and upsetting story. His step-mother either got away with murder or has been vilified for a crime she didn’t commit.

Ncjust I’m so sorry you and your family have been through such an ordeal. Do you mind me asking at what point your mother accepted that he wasn’t coming home and was she able to have him declared dead?

dustarr73 · 11/04/2019 15:16

Well Asha i think it points to 2 people.Either the parents or one of the people driving. One of them did her harm.

Ncjustforthisone111 · 11/04/2019 15:19

bangingon I think she accepted it fairly early on tbh, there was never any talk of him coming back after the first few months passed. It was about 10 years later we eventually got the presumption of death certificate, and she had to go through the courts for it; it's automatically given here after 7 years but because it happened outside the UK the legal position is different.

As an adult I can see how the practicalities and finances must have been awful - unable to sell the house, claim widows pension, close joint bank accounts, remarry etc. So many families must be in such a dreadful position when this kind of thing happens on top of the trauma of the situation itself.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/04/2019 16:09

Damien Nettles

Disappeared on IW, think he was 16

So sad. Think it's pretty obvious what happened to him but it can't be proved. Did you see the documentary about his disappearance? I knew a lot of the people interviewed from many moons ago when I was young. Real seedy characters you wouldn't trust as far as you could spit.

MummaGiles · 11/04/2019 16:09

Not read the 14 pages, but MH370

BangingOn · 11/04/2019 18:27

Thanks for sharing NCjust. As an adult my mind jumps to the practicalities as much as the emotions. If DH dies then I know we have life insurance to pay off the mortgage, I know the sort of funeral service he wants etc. But when someone just disappears nothing would be straightforward.

FFSOMG · 11/04/2019 19:40

The man in the iron mask! Who was he and why did they go to such lengths to make sure nobody found out his identity?

Izzabellasasperella · 11/04/2019 20:06

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen Maybe we know each other? I knew some of the people surrounding this case also.

Mrsong · 11/04/2019 23:08

Ncjustforthisone111 wow that must be so tough. I do often wonder when people go missing at sea, is it usual that their body never shows up?

Missing people is a subject I spend a lot of time reading about. It just fascinates me. I suppose the main ones I'd like to know what happened to are Madeleine ( if only to get rid of those parents looking for money at every turn) Trevor Deely ( Irish) Andrew Gosden ( why did he go to London?) Nicholas Barclay ( look up the documentary "The Imposter " - it will blow your mind) And so many others! For anyone who likes to read about these subjects, websleuths is a fantastic website.

Goonergirl14 · 11/04/2019 23:29

Sandy Davidson. A wee boy who went missing in Irvine, Scotland, born same year as me and not too far from me. So sad. And Katrice Lee. Don't know how you ever move on from the disappearance of a child.

Any ideas Tony Blair?
