Who lives in a house like this?

I love imagining the lives of people who live in unusual homes. Such diversity exists in where we chose to call home and in what goes on behind closed doors. This, for example. Who thinks, after a quick swim in my Egyptian themed pool, I quite fancy a poolside game of chess!!!

Fabulous house though. I'd quite fancy a great aunt to leave it to me in her will!!

The only thing it is fit for is knocking down and starting again.

It needs too much work on it to make it viable, probably needs rewiring replumbing, new kitchens, bathrooms, the swimming pool is too small and hideous.

At least if you knocked it down the cost of building new would be VAT free

I’ve been in a house on that road which is v similar! The owners bought it turnkey from the developer - furniture all included. They are uber wealthy overseas individuals. The road itself is directly off the north circular :(

CurlyhairedAssassin · 07/04/2019 10:07

Ooh that Porthleven one has character but it’s well overpriced, no wonder it hasn’t sold. You literally couldn’t swing a cat in the living area. Also signs of damp on the bedroom wall next to the bed (although I realise you sometimes get this with seaside properties). Even for one person there is not much room at all because you’d be so restricted in some things eg having people over, storage etc

Bishops Avenue is a really odd road. It's basically end to end houses like this but a lot of them are basically "forgotten" so a lot of them are in serious disrepair (thereussd to be squatter issues- not sure if there still are). If you go to London, have a wander down it. It's quite fascinating.

Bluelonerose · 07/04/2019 10:12

The green table cloth in the kitchen looks really cheap and tacky

Connieston · 07/04/2019 10:14

That kitchen is horrid. And I'm not someone who generally gives a toss about kitchens. The décor looks really tired doesn't it?

DailyMailSucksWails · 07/04/2019 10:15

I grew up in a house with old features & wooden floors. Most of what house (in OP's link) has that makes it distinctive is decoration, furniture choices, not core to the house. Choice of flooring. Only the marble pillars stood out to me (with balcony effect) and even that is probably just decour (I doubt they are supporting the ceiling). I thought the garden was pretty sizeable, actually.

My parents have plenty of friends who would decorate their houses like the one in OP's link. Seemed ordinary to me. I would not, by the way. I am the sort to decorate my house like a hovel.

RuggyPeg · 07/04/2019 10:16

Lemon - I was actually quite complementary and think the bones of the house are fab. Ageist and racist I'm not. Come on though, you've got to admit, that pool is something else, right?

NO to that flat. It's like Lego land. Sorry if that makes me lego-ist.

If you think that decor is ordinary Daily, what would you say is unusual?

I too think the garden is pretty big.

but I wonder where all their STUFF is

Private swimming pools always strike me as a particularly bad investment. Paying an extra £1 million for a house with a pool when membership at the local public swimming baths would cost about £20 per month? No thanks.

Palominoo · 07/04/2019 10:20

The only thing I like about the first house is the Egyptian wall decor.

mrsjg · 07/04/2019 10:28

It's horrible. Hopefully when they sell it they can use some of the money to buy themselves some taste

ZebrasAreBras · 07/04/2019 10:33

Oh to have £7m lying around, buy that, and strip it down and redecorate it tastefully.

RuggyPeg · 07/04/2019 10:44

Bishops avenue is fascinating. Just been reading about it. Justin Bieber ASA resident no less!

If you're a gazzillionaire, why would you pay to swim amongst the great unwashed and their pube stew public swimming baths when you can have your own at home?

It's probably owned by a foreign investor and not lived in. A buyer would, as pp mentioned, most likely knock it down and start again.

Oldraver · 07/04/2019 11:05

Crikey for that price I would want a bit more space from my neighbours

olderthanyouthink · 07/04/2019 11:07

@BreakfastAtSquiffanys when my parents were selling their house we stashed as much as we could in the loft, if you didn't need it soon it was going away and then when we took photos we framed the shot and then moved EVERYTHING but the bare minimum out of view, there were piles or stuff hidden behind low walls and sofas and the stairs. Views thought we had moved out already because it was so spartan (I think we lost a couple offers when they realised we lived there and needed to sell to buy)

MutantDisco · 07/04/2019 11:10

I guessed this would be Bishops Avenue and it's the parallel slightly poorer road Grin

Oblomov19 · 07/04/2019 11:42

Vile Decor.

Redyoyo · 07/04/2019 11:48

If you live in a massive house like this how do you decide what room to sit in of an evening! I would get stressed out by the sitting options what room, what chair (why so many) i don't need that kind of stress, I'll stick to my 3 bed semi! Although I'm tempted to get a statue of an Egyptian for my 6ft x 6ft bathroom!

HopeClearwater · 07/04/2019 11:58

Is it because they might be rich, old and probably an ethnic minority

None of the above! Get over yourself.

It’s their house to do what they like with. Now it’s on Rightmove others are free to say what they like and don’t like about it.

They’ve killed the house though...

AlunWynsKnee · 07/04/2019 12:14

I realise this isn't the most pressing issue with the decor but why is the desk with a monitor on so tiny?

shakenfizzydrink · 07/04/2019 12:22

I couldn't swim in that pool. I'd feel like I was in an actual tomb. It's creepy af.

workshyfop · 07/04/2019 12:58

Love the Bath house. It’s beautiful.
