Any oldtimer MNetters out there feel like they are outgrowing Mumsnet?

I might be feeling maudlin and incoherent (chesty cold, stomach bug, and exhausted after several months of 50 hour working weeks) but having put myself to bed this morning and allowing myself the treat of browsing Mumsnet properly for the first in ages...I feel like I have outgrown Mumsnet 😱😱 I can’t seem to find that many threads of interest to read any more. I think I joined MN about 13 or 14 years ago and I used to love it, finding it a constant source of laughter, advice, and kindness between people in similar siutaions or just seeking advice. These days the threads seem a bit samey, people very quickly and easily turn against each other, and you rarely if ever come across anyone you ‘know’ for a laugh and a catch up.

Any oldtimers out there - am I rosetinting the old days or have I actually outgrown MN?

Fair chance I am just too ill and should just shut up and put away the ipad though 😂

Wtf? Are you talking about on another site?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/04/2019 15:38

I'm off to look...elsewhere 😉

continuallychargingmyphone · 11/04/2019 15:43

Bleach your brain first.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/04/2019 15:46

I had a look on Reddit,I'm none the wiser.

DolceNow · 11/04/2019 15:46

continually you've been deleted twice, stop picking on irvine. It doesn't matter what is said elsewhere does it?

continuallychargingmyphone · 11/04/2019 15:48

Oh it’s another sub on Reddit irvine is part of. Don’t be fat, don’t be poor and don’t post on That Reddit Sub Wink

DolceNow · 11/04/2019 15:51

'Bleach your brain first.'

Did you mean bleach your brain after? Just doesn't make sense if trying to be funny to say bleach your brain 'first'.

Why are you convinced everyone posting on this thread is secretly a friend of Irvine from some other mysterious corner of the internet?

You sound unhinged. Not everything is a secret illuminati plot Hmm

DolceNow · 11/04/2019 15:57

'Are you the poster who just called a regular poster on here a ‘pervert’?'

Who? Confused

Continually stop accusing people of stuff from other sites. Take it up with them there.

AnyaMumsnet · 11/04/2019 16:00

Hi there all,

It's a tad ironic that a thread about how much kinder MN was in the old days has become a bit of a bunfight. As old-timers, you know what MNHQ's "peace and love" messages are all about, and we're sure you're all familiar with our guidelines, so please, grab some Brew and Cake and try and stick to them.

bemusedinBerlin · 11/04/2019 16:34

Probably @PCohle because they've linked to it on their sub so they can all come and rally around Irvine to prove she's not a troll...

PCohle · 11/04/2019 16:39

But how do you know that unless you are also on all these sites?

I'm defending Irvine I suppose and I've literally never used reddit or spoken to her on or off MN before in my life.

bsc · 11/04/2019 16:43

notacooldad That never used to happen in the old days

You weren't around for NarniaGate, GF, or moldies then? Grin

notacooldad · 11/04/2019 16:49

You weren't around for NarniaGate, GF, or moldies thengrin*
I did add ' well not often!!"
I remember the fall outs with people like DaftPunk . There was some humdinger arguments going on!!!
Hippychick used to amuse me, she didnt give a fuck!!🤣🤣

DolceNow · 11/04/2019 16:59

'so they can all come and rally around Irvine to prove she's not a troll...'

Who has? Posters have just said you can't bring arguments from one site to another.

SunshineCake · 11/04/2019 17:03

I've been here since pregnant with my third and he will be 14 this year.

I definitely feel like I'm outgrowing MN but also, more so, that it's not the great place it was when it wasn't so huge. I find that the multiple inane threads annoy me and the lack of decent grammar in some posts is also frustrating.

I also feel like I don't belong and aren't as welcome anymore as no one knows who I am in terms of my original names which were easily linked to me. I'd never post for proper support which is such a shame as I remember once getting two lovely surprises when I was going through a tough time. I also had a lot of horrible posts so it's all down to people not the site itself.

bsc · 11/04/2019 17:08

Ah. Daftpunk. Sigh.
Those were the days!

Softlystrictlystreet · 11/04/2019 17:28

@BSC - Oo, they still are the days over There. Daftpunk is alive and well Grin

bsc · 11/04/2019 17:57

Confused sadly, I have no idea where "There" is!

chaosisaladder · 11/04/2019 18:08

I first found MN in 2011, so a latecomer compared to everyone on here I think. I remember being sat at work trying to look busy whilst silently shaking with laughter at threads Grin I mostly use it for recommendations now (I google really exciting things like “where to buy carpet mumsnet” to look at what other posters have said before - MN never does me wrong!)
I have no idea what CF means but I keep seeing it.

notacooldad · 11/04/2019 18:22

sadly, I have no idea where "There" is!
By the sounds of it, that could be a good thing!

HaventGotAllDay · 11/04/2019 19:13

Is Daftpunk still as racist and disablist as she ever was?

Softlystrictlystreet · 11/04/2019 19:20

Aye, definitely. She’s not missed around these parts, There is welcome to her!

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 11/04/2019 19:27

I've not looked for weeks but those Reddit MN related forums were fucking hilarious - it was like Mumsnet Lord Of The Flies. You could see what MN would be like with no moderation at all and no banning people for being giant dicks or trolls. Like very badly behaved children, not adults. I'd swing for my DC if they behaved like that online. Poor form. Very unedifying.

Wasn't it the Reddit forums that serially accuses (or used to accuse) various MNers they dislike, of being Daftpunk? IIRC they believed I was Daftpunk (under a previous NC) at some stage HmmGrin

Daftpunk was an awful prick. They actually made me cry once with one of their comments about not wanting their DC to be sat next to DC with SN.

btw, that hotel in Blackpool, wasn't it in Lytham St Anne's? I vaguely remember something like that...
