Where do you take your children on holidays in the uk?

My kids loved Scarborough! They also love Center Parcs. We've been to Northumberland a few times and enjoyed that too, plus (depending quite where you stay, obv) it's easy to get to Newcastle for a day if it's raining.

Went to the Cotswolds once and I wouldn't go again - crowded (even outside school holidays), expensive and not too many child-friendly days out compared to other places.

azulmariposa · 05/04/2019 18:28

Would love to go to Cornwall, but it's too long to drive.
Yorkshire is lovely. Whitby is my favourite. There's loads to do in Yorkshire too, never get bored of it.

MabelStable · 05/04/2019 18:29

Scilly Isles and various other parts of Cornwall.

Mustbetimeforachange · 05/04/2019 18:31

Anyone know what Colwyn Bay is like? A friend has a place there that we could use.

Shopperami · 05/04/2019 18:34

When you Say the area you’ve been, what accommodation do you use?

Devon, Dorset and Cornwall. We're off to a caravan near Exmouth in May, then for a week with the PILs in Swanage in September. Loads to do for kids in both places. No Cornwall this year but maybe next year!

MegBusset · 05/04/2019 18:42

What age are your DC? We've had wonderful holidays all over the UK, but accommodation really depends on ages and stages (and budget)!

When they were tiny, we stayed mainly on caravan sites eg Haven. As they got a bit older we mixed it in with camping. Now they're 9 and 12 we mostly stay in cottages as they're a) cheaper and b) quieter.

Lots of good locations already listed but we love the Lakes and Peaks, Wales, Northumberland, Cornwall, Norfolk.

spiderlight · 05/04/2019 18:44

Our best holidays have been on Cornwall, Yorkshire and Norfolk.

bagsofbats · 05/04/2019 18:46

Anywhere wild and windy with access to beach, rivers or lakes ( this year we have all three! ) and not many people. Stay in self catering cottages or camp.

Mumof1andacat · 05/04/2019 18:47

We like seaside resorts (Weymouth,Blackpool,Torquay) we stay in self catering flats or cottages.

MrsWooster · 05/04/2019 18:47

Just got back from a week on the Devon/Dorset border. Took 4 year old and 9 month old and there was so much to entertain them. Donkey Sanctuary, ride on a steam train, ride on a old fashioned tram, pebble finding on the beach.

We stayed in a self catering cottage- it was beautiful accommodation and happily housed 6 of us (grandparents too).

Uptheshard · 05/04/2019 18:50

Loch Ness...highlands..

Shopperami · 05/04/2019 18:51

I suppose it does depend on age too doesn’t it, regarding accommodation, etc. My DS just turned 7

2dd's aged 4 and 6, we're hiring a cottage in the Lakes and a static in Cornwall plus lots of breaks in our own touring caravan in Shropshire this year.

All totally different holidays, Cornwall for the beach, lakes for exploring and Shropshire for relaxing while the kids run around.

Blankiefan · 05/04/2019 19:14

Self catering in Northumberland, Cornwall and East Neuk of Fife. Also, Centerparcs every year - we love it.

crosser62 · 05/04/2019 19:14

North wales
Whitby
Lake District
Windsor
London (LOVE London)
Yorkshire,
The list is endless.

We love abroad but I want my kids to see how gorgeous Britain is too.

Haven is fab for kids.

hsegfiugseskufh · 05/04/2019 19:16

This year we are going to whitley bay and great yarmouth. Never been to either before as we usually go abroad but im hoping theyll be good. We did filey when ds was a baby and that was lovely.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 05/04/2019 19:22

Whitby, or North Yorkshire Moors
Beautiful countryside, good access to Leeds/York if the weather's a washout

tabbiemoo · 05/04/2019 19:26

Hire cottage in Devon, Cornwall or Cotswolds or go to Center Parcs - Longleat or Sherwood Forest. Kids love Center Parcs the most. I love Cornwall.

PoesyCherish · 05/04/2019 19:28

We do a lot of camping trips and the odd cottage break. Over the last few years we've done

North Wales (Snowdonia)
South Wales (Pembrokeshire and the Brecon Beacons)
Forest of Dean
Lake District
The Cotswolds

Looking at also going to Cornwall this year too

PoesyCherish · 05/04/2019 19:32

DSD is 7 and loves the outdoorsy stuff - so cooking breakfast outside and early morning walks when we go camping, walking in general, high ropes courses, playing on the beach or in the sea, visiting castles if we're in North Wales. And if there is a softplay nearby she's loving it.

It all depends what they're into doesn't it.

LegoPeopleEverywhere · 05/04/2019 19:32

We camp or rent a cottage (or flat if staying in a town centre).
