I'm thinking black lace weaver as that's the closest description I can find. I am however distraught that she is being described as "common" and feel that she must be some sort of rarity.

We are in the UK so I figure we won't find TreacherousCat cocooned in a silky body bag and hoisted to the ceiling Grin

Agree with tube web spider

MojoMoFo · 05/04/2019 00:10

Lol 😆 you've had years of practice with your DM then!

I'm the resident spider catcher here (DH is too slow). I'm scared and have to steel myself before I try and catch the big ones.

Good luck in finding out what kind of spider she is x

MsMustDoBetter · 05/04/2019 00:18

I'd be throwing a thick, hard backed coffee table book on that evil looking little shit.

I hate spiders, especially hose spiders. It's live and let live as far as the garden varieties go, but if I catch you in my home I'll squash you.

Hopeful bump for any knowledgeable spider folk in the morning crowd Smile

TreacherousPissFlap · 05/04/2019 05:22

Funny you should say that cricket Confused

They were loose (rather than in a bag) but I did purchase them in Tesco Confused

Email a photo to your local Wildlife Trust - they're really helpful with things like this Smile

reallybadinterview · 05/04/2019 05:24

So will you be burning your house down tonight or in the morning?

Raspberrytruffle · 05/04/2019 05:24

I'm scared of spiders but shes absolutely beautiful!

TreacherousPissFlap · 05/04/2019 05:26

I think so too raspberry

DS is not so sold! We're up early as he's off to Italy on a school trip, he was less than thrilled to find her next to the compost bin at 4.30 this morning Grin

I would say it is a "Black House spider" we have had some HUGE ones at the stables that look like leaves blowing across the floor at times!
They are dark brown to black and velvety!

lms2017 · 05/04/2019 07:07

..here's one .

This is our tube web spider - she lives in a recess in the garage and hibernates in the winter (she’s just starting to come out again now).

She’s been there for three years. Or maybe she has a baby every year. Either way, she’s now joined the family Grin

Ooh, similar velvety legs family ! (Not a phrase I've ever typed out before TBH!)

I've emailed our local wildlife trust and am awaiting approval to join a Facebook spider group who knew?

She has been released back where she came from. DH was erring in putting her outdoors but we've compromised Grin

Here a pic from last summer. She sets up a network of tripwires around her home to catch any passing creatures - she’s incredibly fast and they don’t stand a chance!

There is an organisation I found online which identified ours.

If I can find the email again I’ll post their details tonight.

TreacherousPissFlap · 05/04/2019 07:24

Thank you Smile

We also had a solitary bee called Mortimer. He was also fascinating but sadly not as long lived as your velvety friend. We spent many happy hours watching him industriously zipping back and forth Smile

canihaveacoffeeplease · 05/04/2019 07:33

golddustwomen · 05/04/2019 07:34

Well this thread definitely woke me up this morning!! Reminds myself never ever to click on spider threads with warnings!!

canihaveacoffeeplease · 05/04/2019 07:36

I forgot it needs loads of information about where you found it, where you live etc...sorry!

TreacherousPissFlap · 05/04/2019 07:58
