Spider identification please - ***PICTURE!***

I'm thinking black lace weaver as that's the closest description I can find. I am however distraught that she is being described as "common" and feel that she must be some sort of rarity.

We are in the UK so I figure we won't find TreacherousCat cocooned in a silky body bag and hoisted to the ceiling Grin

I've just finished a late shift and went to let the dogs out when I got in. She was sitting by the back door and, even from my great height (5'3"!) I could se how velvety she was.

DH stirred and said hello when I got upstairs so I've regaled him with pictures- I must say you lot are more demonstrative than he was Grin

Only a couple cm long I suppose.

She's actually in a glass in the kitchen till the morning as it's lashing down outside, and once TreacherousCat saw her things may not have ended so harmoniously.

I was just fascinated by what she was as we live rurally so are no stranger to stray wildlife taking up rights in our house. I've never seen a spider so velvety and black.

It's one of those things I'd like to see from a distance!
I've tried to like spiders, but I just can't. Although I wish them no harm.
Definitely never seen one of those though thank god.

Don't think so wish , she is black and a different kind of shape than the great raft spider.

On the plus side, I had no idea how many UK spiders there are

She's the wrong shape for a tube web (we have them in our wall and you can see their little eyes light up in the dark if you shine a torch at it)

And not really brave, DM is mortally afraid of spiders. From a young age I was Designated Spider Put Outter so I've never really known any different Wink
