I'm thinking black lace weaver as that's the closest description I can find. I am however distraught that she is being described as "common" and feel that she must be some sort of rarity.

We are in the UK so I figure we won't find TreacherousCat cocooned in a silky body bag and hoisted to the ceiling Grin

There is no picture (thank god).

Whatsnewpussyhat · 04/04/2019 23:19

That's definitely a cat eating tarantula.

pickledparsnip · 04/04/2019 23:19

Oh wow. She's a beauty!

ThunderStorms · 04/04/2019 23:19

Cute!

MrsBertBibby · 04/04/2019 23:20

Velvety!

Lamkin · 04/04/2019 23:21

😱 Crikey!
I'm glad I've never encountered one of those bad boys, it looks like a proper scary spider!

Ratbagcatbag · 04/04/2019 23:22

Awwww she looks lovely.

TreacherousPissFlap · 04/04/2019 23:23

I've just finished a late shift and went to let the dogs out when I got in. She was sitting by the back door and, even from my great height (5'3"!) I could se how velvety she was.

DH stirred and said hello when I got upstairs so I've regaled him with pictures- I must say you lot are more demonstrative than he was Grin

It's fluffy like a tarantula, how big was it?
You sure it wasn't someone's pet that's escaped?! Confused

TreacherousPissFlap · 04/04/2019 23:30

Only a couple cm long I suppose.

She's actually in a glass in the kitchen till the morning as it's lashing down outside, and once TreacherousCat saw her things may not have ended so harmoniously.

I was just fascinated by what she was as we live rurally so are no stranger to stray wildlife taking up rights in our house. I've never seen a spider so velvety and black.

FECK OFF WITH THAT! Christ almighty...

BaronessBomburst · 04/04/2019 23:33

She's beautiful!
I like spiders.

Lamkin · 04/04/2019 23:35

It's one of those things I'd like to see from a distance!
I've tried to like spiders, but I just can't. Although I wish them no harm.
Definitely never seen one of those though thank god.

WishITookLifeSeriously · 04/04/2019 23:37

Great raft spider?

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 04/04/2019 23:39

Gorgeous! You have a new pet. Grin

AhhhHereItGoes · 04/04/2019 23:41

Many spiders are ugly but she looks beautiful.
Like black velvet.

TreacherousPissFlap · 04/04/2019 23:42

Don't think so wish , she is black and a different kind of shape than the great raft spider.

On the plus side, I had no idea how many UK spiders there are

FluffyBumps · 04/04/2019 23:46

I hope for your sake that it is still under the glass in the kitchen in the morning.

AhhhHereItGoes · 04/04/2019 23:47

False Widow?

It looks like the Black Lace spider a little, but not quite.

TreacherousPissFlap · 04/04/2019 23:49

That's what I thought aah, it's the closest description but not quite right.

Definitely not a false widow we've had them too

MojoMoFo · 04/04/2019 23:56

Could it be a Tube Web spider?

MojoMoFo · 04/04/2019 23:56

www.google.com/search?q=tube%20web%20spider

MojoMoFo · 04/04/2019 23:59

It looks bloody scary though ShockConfused and you were brave to manage getting it in a glass x

TreacherousPissFlap · 05/04/2019 00:03

She's the wrong shape for a tube web (we have them in our wall and you can see their little eyes light up in the dark if you shine a torch at it)

And not really brave, DM is mortally afraid of spiders. From a young age I was Designated Spider Put Outter so I've never really known any different Wink
