Taking dinosaurs to the next level?

Two2tango · 04/04/2019 12:23

DS is nearly 5 and loves dinosaurs. He would like dinosaur things for his birthday (his actual words were he wanted "a dinosaur museum") but already has a large collection of dinosaur figurines as well as cuddly toy dinosaurs. He also had a remote control dinosaur..

Are there any other gifts your dino-mad DC enjoy? I have just spotted a dinosaur digging kit from National Geographic which I will get but looking for other ideas...

Thanks!

Would he enjoy a jigsaw puzzle? Or maybe one of those eggs that you put in water and hatch? If he’s interested in a dinosaur museum could you take him to see some dinosaurs in an actual museum, depending on budget and location? 🦕

A 6 year old I know just received a dinosaur transformer which he loves.

He also has a dinosaur dressing gown and pyjamas.

I bet there are 'how to draw dinosaur' books out there as well.

Bedding, board games, puzzles, a trip to a dinosaur themed museum, built your own dinosaur skeleton?

My DS' current obsession is building a jurassic park.

Big duplo plates and Lego plates to buikd the park. Big ranger trucks to catch the dinosaurs and put them in the park.

WinterHeatWave · 04/04/2019 12:37

8 foot inflatable T Rex

And yes to clothes, drawing books, hatching eggs and puzzles. And if this comes back in stock, grab one. It's beautiful.

If you can be bothered, I am constantly asked for ice eggs by the kids who came to DSs 7th birthday. Stuff a small dinosaur in a balloon. Partially fill with water. Freeze for 24-36 hrs. Cut off balloon, and let kids loose with a small hammer outside. If you freeze for too long, the dinos have a habbit of loosing limbs....

Lego have a Jurassic World range which my boys love. Other big hits here have been the little Dino projector torch, Dino top trumps, and thebNigel marvin Prehistoric Park dvd

Two2tango · 04/04/2019 12:41

Ooh thank you! I love the ice balloons idea and all the other ones. He's definitely keen on jigsaws and Lego so that's great. And board games!

He has very clearly specified he does not want a trip to a museum, he wants an actual museum Confused

Usborne do a lovely questions and answers book about dinosaurs. There are dinosaur fingerlings.

cleanhousewastedlife · 04/04/2019 12:45

Could you take him to a museum as a 'research trip' as it'll take a while to save up to buy a whole one? Grin

Blueowls · 04/04/2019 12:45

When he's a bit older you could take him for one of the dinosaur sleepovers at the Natural History Museum! Min age is 7. A few friends have taken DC and said it is brilliant! www.nhm.ac.uk/events/dino-snores-for-kids.html

cleanhousewastedlife · 04/04/2019 12:46

Alternatively get him a very very large box. He can start his own.

cucumbergin · 04/04/2019 12:46

Would he like books?
DS likes www.amazon.co.uk/Dinosaurs-Really-Work-Alan-Snow/dp/0857073141?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 and Gigantosaurus by Jonny Duddle.

bobstersmum · 04/04/2019 12:46

Blackpool zoo have a really great dinosaur area with loads of huge dinosaurs, if you are anywhere near there!

cucumbergin · 04/04/2019 12:47

Could you create a museum in a dolls house? Put little model dinos on little plinths with little labels on...

desperatelyseekingcaffeine · 04/04/2019 12:47

Dinosaur photicular book, gorgeous and the pictures move!

ABC1234DEF · 04/04/2019 12:49

Do you live near any fossil beaches? He can go and find the start of his own museum! Lyme Regis has a dinosaur museum I think and the Jurassic coast is great for fossil hunting if you're anywhere near

Corneliusmurphy · 04/04/2019 12:49

We had a really nice playmobil dinosaur volcano with fossils to uncover I wonder if they do a museum set (they seem to do everything else!)

CalamityJune · 04/04/2019 12:50

I have asked DH who was obsessed with dinosaurs as a kid (and still kind of is). He dinosaur teeth from ebay!

suchasoftersin · 04/04/2019 12:52

I bought my sister a 3d optical illusion dinosaur lamp for Christmas and she loves it. Can double up as a night light. They change colour and look really cool. You can get quite a few different species as well. Got mine from Amazon.

cleanhousewastedlife · 04/04/2019 12:53

Oooh owls I went to one of those! They did an adults one. I got to sleep under Dippy. Smile

Palominoo · 04/04/2019 12:58

As a surprise you could wallpaper a wall in his bedroom or buy cheap clip frames and use wallpaper or posters.

When my little palaeontologist got to that stage I bought him a carnotaurus tooth from Mr Woods www.mrwoodsfossils.co.uk.

That worked.
