What's the easiest/least fuss way to clean hard floors for a lazy cow?

I currently have a Vax steam mop which is ok but DH burst the handle right at the joint with the trigger and whilst he's tried to fix it with Duck tape and it sort of still works, I'm in the market for a replacement.

Or, is there an easier way to clean hard floors? Used to have a mop and bucket but found it a pain in the arse to be honest. I have engineered oak flooring most of downstairs with lino in the (tiny) bathrooms. I need maneuverability and the ability to get into small spaces as a priority as well as obviously easiness :o

not get it too dirty in the first place - no outdoor shoes allowed.

and yes to bucket and mop. the systems where you squeeze out the mop in a bucket insert are back friendly.

I've tried all sorts but nothing works as well as a mop and bucket for me. I have a Vileda Spin Mop which is great because it spins all the dirt and water off the mop, meaning the floor dries really quickly. Really hot water and some Flash or something. I am proper lazy but it takes minutes

Oh my how had I not heard of combi vacuum/mops before? I’ve been trying for a year to work out how to clean the floors in my new house, with the dogs they get so dirty that steam mops just push the dirt around, and a mop bucket is filthy after about 1/4 of the job. Now just need to persuade DH that we need a Bissell Crosswave...

BeerandBiscuits · 01/04/2019 08:41

Agree with PP, the Vileda Spin Mop and Bucket is the way to go. Hardly any effort involved as the spinner works so well, floors dry really quickly.

Muddywellies10 · 01/04/2019 19:56

Sorry waxonfeckoff yes bissel is crosswave and does rugs too! It is amazing.

Fortheloveofscience · 24/04/2019 15:21

Just coming back to this as I bought a Bissell Crosswave after reading about them here and I’m a little bit in love with it. Can just go round once as if I’m hoovering but it leaves the floors free of dog hair (from my enormous wooly dog!), mud and the caked on bits of mank that seem to accumulate on a daily basis. Seriously recommend as my time-saving discovery of 2019! Will have to go round the edges with a cloth periodically but that’s a small inconvenience compared to the previous Hoover/mop/bucket palaver.

PatricksRum · 25/04/2019 21:02

Yes the Bissell Crosswave, my best friend

Hoppinggreen · 25/04/2019 21:07

I’ve got a reasonably big house with no carpets at all, a big muddy dog, 2 cats, 2 grubby kids and a DH who isn’t much better.
I’ve used every mop and bucket/ steam thingy etc going and have finally settled on a vileda spray mop which I fill with watered down flash cleaner ( sometimes with a bit of zoflora in). I’ve got 3 pads for it and they wash and dry really well

Zippideedodaaa · 25/04/2019 21:13

I'm totally with you on the not wanting a dirty floor cloth in with my washing OP. I have a spray mop and just wash out the cloth in the sink and hang it up to dry. Takes a few mins.

Rollerbird · 25/04/2019 22:33

What's the best and easiest way for rough texture sandstone flag floor?

Peacocking · 26/04/2019 16:31

Roomba to Hoover the floor, then a braava jet to clean it. Buy a shed load of cheap cleaning pads from Ebay so you dont need to wash them often.

Otherwise, the fancy new mop n buckets with a built in spinny thing to rinse and spin the mop head as you go - marvellous.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 26/04/2019 16:42

Eek putting dirty floor cloths in with wash. Bleurgh! We use white terry cloths (like small hand towels) bought in bulk from Costco for cleaning anything. Including wood and tile floors. There is easily enough for a full wash load in a week, so can go in a hot wash with bleach. No more wipes and cheap and cheerful.

As to the question: DH sprays diluted wood cleaner, then does the "Dance of The Towels" - one under each foot, replacing the towel as he goes. Works beautifully. I, being the lazy cow, give praise.

Disfordarkchocolate · 26/04/2019 16:46

We use cotton floor cloths on one of those mops you are supposed to use with floor wipes. The clothes are then rinsed out, left in a very week bleach solution for 30 minutes and air dried. At the end of the week, they go in with the white wash.
