Did anyone else forget the struggles of putting kids to bed in broad daylight?

Bedtime.

'But it's still light!'

'Is it a morning night'

'The sun hasn't gone to bed yet'

Argh!!!!!!

Yup. Just got.. Its light, the moon isn't out yet... and worst "look it's only 5.30" ( forgot to change kitchen clock)

cliquewhyohwhy · 31/03/2019 20:19

Oh yes I feel your pain. I've had screaming, throwing teddies everywhere but I finally have peace lol.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 31/03/2019 20:20

Yep. The 3 year old is proving to be a particular dick over this issue! I am still here. Over an hour later....waiting.... Hmm

buckeejit · 31/03/2019 20:28

Owe have grandparents over for the weekend so worse here. Off with them now. Hopefully!

CallMeCarolDanvers · 31/03/2019 20:30

Nobody is asleep here yet and if I get the 4yo to sleep before 9.30 I will consider it a victory. Getting them up and out for 8.30am tomorrow will be fun Hmm

Must get DH to put up the blackout blind.

SimonJT · 31/03/2019 20:31

Blackout blinds/curtains are your friend, living in a basement also helps!

Cynara · 31/03/2019 20:37

Yes, yes. I feel your pain. We had the incredulous outrage that bedtime had been suggested. Then the triumphant pointing-out of broad daylight outside. Then 30 minutes after bedtime the claim that Teddy had stripped the sheet and pillowcases off the bed. (Teddy definitely did not do that. He was framed). Then the sneaking downstairs because "I want to kiss mama goodnight". Finally we seem to have peace, but I'm most of the way down a bottle of wine already. Can't maintain that pace through the summer months.

Singlenotsingle · 31/03/2019 20:43

I remember being made to go to bed when I was a kid, when it was still light. How unfair! I wasn't tired. I wanted to go and play outside! This was 60 years ago, and I can still remember...

CurlsandCurves · 31/03/2019 20:47

Oh I remember those days, I feel your pain.

In years gone by this weekend would have been spent taping sheets of cardboard to the windows in the kids bedrooms to block out the light. Such a good look for the summer...

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 31/03/2019 20:48

I shut ds blackout curtains before he went up to bed

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 31/03/2019 20:49

Yes OP I had forgotten. It all came back to me when I was running the bath

StarlingsEverywhere · 31/03/2019 20:54

We put DS to bed an hour late, but he’s still awake and keeps getting out of bed even now! sob

DrMadelineMaxwell · 31/03/2019 21:21

In winter I get up at night
And dress by yellow candle-light.
In summer, quite the other way,
I have to go to bed by day.

I have to go to bed and see
The birds still hopping on the tree,
Or hear the grown-up people's feet
Still going past me in the street.

And does it not seem hard to you,
When all the sky is clear and blue,
And I should like so much to play,
To have to go to bed by day?

ThisMustBeMyDream · 31/03/2019 21:52

We have the bloody Ikea tupplur blackout blind AND blackout curtains. Made fuck all difference here Angry

Sicario · 31/03/2019 22:07

I seem to recall wondering if I could sue the government about moving the fucking clocks about. The bastards who make these rules never had to think about mini people bed time.

MotherOfTheNoise · 31/03/2019 22:10

Oh god...absolute torture! They were over tired from a party lost night anyway but tonight it was "it's definitely morning mummy" "you're lying mummy" "why is the sun still awake then mummy" WE GO THROUGH THIS EVERY YEAR, JUST GO TO SLEEP 😩

BraayTigger · 31/03/2019 22:16

Totally relate OP 🤦‍♀️😩

We had "its morning still mummy", "but it's light and not night time yet", "I'm hungry"
"I don't want to sleep" etc etc...all from a 4year old who normally goes to sleep really well.

Here's hoping tomorrow night is better!!

listsandbudgets · 01/04/2019 07:57

On top of that had to wake them up thos morning to be informed it was too early to her up ...

Justonemorepancake · 01/04/2019 07:59

Oh yes. Couple the clocks going back with a 4pm danger nap in the car and you have a recipe for a very lengthy bedtime. Plus 2 night wakings. Zzz.

BertieBotts · 01/04/2019 08:20

Yes. I forgot. The 10yo is so used to it that I put the baby to bed unthinkingly, he was totally asleep but laid him down in his cot and eyes pinged open as if to say "What are you doing?? It's still daytime."

Luckily we have metal shutters in our room but in his room we do not, so will have to try and wean him off total darkness before we move him out.

ForalltheSaints · 01/04/2019 08:42

Thank you for giving yet another reason to have summer time all year round. As for the person who wishes to sue, most of the MPs who voted to resume this twice yearly nonsense by a free vote in December 1970 are probably long dead.

The EU have seen sense and MEPs supported a plan to end this nonsense from 2021 in their member states.

Jackshouse · 01/04/2019 08:43

Honestly it was no different from any other night. That is to say it’s always a nightmare.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 01/04/2019 08:49

no, but that's because we never had an especially early bedtime. But blackout curtains helped enormously. And these days (DD is 9) it doesn't matter a jot.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 01/04/2019 08:51

Yep. And am still recovering from the farce that was this morning.

wendz86 · 01/04/2019 09:00

My 3 year old was moaning it was too dark because the black out curtains were shut . I was thinking ‘ are you actually joking ‘.
