what vegetarian nibbles would you get for a picnic?

Exactly that really. We are going to take mum for picnic today. Mum is vegetarian. My brother has got bits and bobs but has text me asking if I can pick up some vegetarian bits. I'm thinking some fruit, maybe cheese rolls. What else?

Olives, falafels, crisps, breadsticks and hummus

crumble82 · 31/03/2019 08:29

Humous with sticks of pepper and cucumber, a couple of nice cheeses with cheese biscuits and a chutney, falafel, pasta salad.

Strugglingmum73 · 31/03/2019 08:29

The Quorn cocktail sausages and plenty of 'em too!

NannyR · 31/03/2019 08:30

Falafels, houmous and other dips, hardboiled eggs, quiche, nice bread, cheese.

SellFridges · 31/03/2019 08:30

Quorn eggs. I don’t buy the real ones since I discovered these.

Waitrose do some spinach and feta triangle things. Oh, and sweet corn fritters.

MistletoeBalls · 31/03/2019 08:32

Yes to pp and nice cheeses! Quorn picnic eggs are ok as well IMO (like mini veggie scotch eggs)

Deli counter section in supermarkets often have interesting stuff: different types of falafel, stuffed vine leaves, arancini balls, sweetcorn fritters, etc

Also crudités with dip

Are you in UK? It's still a bit cold for picnics where I am! Have a lovely time

FrederickCreeding · 31/03/2019 08:33

M+S cheese and onion rolls (like veggie sausage rolls) are amazing!
Olives, maybe other deli things like antipasti - almonds, peppers, sun dried tomatoes, those sorts of things.
Cheese and biscuits
Flatbread or focaccia - there are some really nice ones with different veg on.
Scones and cake!

holly1501 · 31/03/2019 08:34

This is good stuff. I knew you lot would come through. Cheese board brilliant idea. Falafel is another good one. Can they be eaten straight from the box? Literally gonna be stopping off at the shop on the way no time to cook and go.

Second the M&S cheese and onion sausage rolls, totally amazing. We often take hot soup in weather like this.

notacooldad · 31/03/2019 08:38

If you have falafel take some dips as it can be very dry.
The deli counters sell peppers in oil stuffed with cheese. Some are better than others. I prefer Asda's.

juneybean · 31/03/2019 08:38

Behave "too cold for a picnic" it's so much better having a car picnic which we've been enjoying the past few weekends up in Northumberland Grin

Asda do some picnic things 3 for £5.00 and I'm sure they had veggie stuff. Sadly we went for all the non veggie so can't help much...

But what about cooking a veggie pizza and eating it cold?

juneybean · 31/03/2019 08:39

Oh sorry just saw your post about not able to cook.

Deffo check out the quorn aisle, their sausage rolls are really nice too!

ItsInTheSpoon · 31/03/2019 08:40

M&S cheese and onion rolls, yes yes.
They also have delicious savoury muffins, mini size.

CountFosco · 31/03/2019 08:40

Crisps, nuts, bread, popcorn, oatcakes, cheese, crudites, tomatoes, boiled eggs, houmous, falafel (I'm the only one who eats them in my house - win win), samosas, olives, grapes, strawberries, chocolate.

Shmithecat2 · 31/03/2019 08:40

Yep, Quorn mini scotch eggs - better than the real ones!

planesinthesky · 31/03/2019 08:43

Veggie sushi, spinach and feta filo parcels, Quorn cocktail sausages, snack sized cheese, packs of mixed fruit, pasta with spinach and pine nuts (the M&S ones are my favourite), mini veggie quiche.

CountFosco · 31/03/2019 08:43

No such thing as too cold for a picnic, I've had picnics on the beach in the north of Scotland when there's a dusting of snow on the hills. A thermos of soup and you're fine!

We took the kids I work with to Crosby beach last week and has a picnic!
Great fun.

fiorentina · 31/03/2019 08:58

I can nail a whole packet of quorn scotch eggs in one sitting! Some nice cheeses, grapes, fruit salad?

UrsulaPandress · 31/03/2019 09:01

I can finish a pack of Quorn scotch eggs on the way home from the supermarket.

clary · 31/03/2019 09:05

Yep, as others say, veg samosas, veg scotch eggs, spinach pasties from sainsbury are very good too. Delicious fruit like crunchy fresh grapes and big oranges. Some cakes too or those big cookies.

PineapplePatty · 31/03/2019 09:08

M&S cheese scones are delicious

Wobblington · 31/03/2019 09:11

Sweetcorn fritters or halloumi and sweetcorn if you can find them
