Shit shopping - worst groceries delivery experience

shitshopping · 31/03/2019 00:04

I have had the shittest home shopping experience with Morrisons.

What happened:

  1. The driver turned up 40 mins early (7.50am).
  1. When I didn't immediately answer the door (as it was 40 mins early and I wasn't even dressed) he dumped the groceries on my drive and buggered off immediately, without even speaking to me. I live on a really busy road that at that time is full of schoolkids and commuters walking to the station, so potentially the whole lot could have been nicked. Not to mention freezer stuff defrosting in the morning sunshine etc.
  1. When I had got dressed, opened the door and found all the bags just sitting there and brought them in and started to unpack everything, I found that in addition to the above, he'd missed out about 3 bags of my groceries, including the high value items. But had helpfully substituted that with several bags of someone else's random shit shopping.
  1. I was working at home and had to take about 45 mins of my work time out to try to resolve this. So cost to me - about £20.
  1. Result - Morrisons couldn't get hold of the driver at all, couldn't find my missing shopping and are going to take up to 10 days to refund the money for the non-existent shopping to my card. 10 days!! In this day and age. Everywhere else seems to promise refunds within 5 days max.
  1. They refused to refund anything for my inconvenience except for the delivery charge - big woo given I now have to do another shop to cover all the items they didn't deliver. They kindly offered me all of £3 (another big woo) off a future shop. Ignoring that there will definitely never be a future shop with Morrisons, as far as I'm concerned. Angry

Anyone else had a shitter shopping experience with Morrisons (or another supermarket)?

So disappointed as they used to have really good customer service. Have massively gone downhill recently though - no idea why.

Recommendations for reliable home groceries delivery companies much appreciated too. :)

That is terrible!

I tend to use Tesco and find them very good. The other day I needed to change my delivery slot at the very last minute (about an hour before it was due), they tried really hard to fit it in to a later delivery but couldn’t but did change it to click and collect for me so I could still get my shopping. I was really impressed with that, helped me out at quite a stressful time.

We get a Tesco delivery on a Saturday, but I find all dates on the fresh stuff that I want for the weeks packed lunch are use by Monday, even though the website says 3 plus days. The freshly baked on the day crusty bread is usually use by the day before we get it. They are cheeky bastards.

AJPTaylor · 31/03/2019 09:46

Sainsbos when they first started covering my area. I had 2 deliveries. The first one they had, for reasons only known to themselves scanned and charged for 19 roll of wrapping paper. I had only ordered one. That took weeks to sort out. They gave me a 10 pound voucher. So I reluctantly ordered again. Driver swung a carrier bag with my Xmas booze against the planter by my front door and broke 3 bottles of booze, leaving the glass in situ. Said he would report it and ask for a refund. Did he? Of course not.

wheresmyhairytoe · 31/03/2019 09:49

Morrisons are bloody awful now!

They frequently don't deliver items I've ordered for a special diet meaning I have to go out anyway to buy them. The dates are crap on fresh stuff too.

They used to be really good. I'm now using up my money off codes then switching to someone else.

FenellaMaxwell · 31/03/2019 09:49

Ocado are lovely. When I had a screamy newborn and was at my wits end, the driver came in and helped me unpack my shopping.

FairyMoppings · 31/03/2019 09:55

This is precisely why I went back to doing my own shopping in person at the supermarket.

The crappy substitutions, wrong orders, rude unhelpful delivery drivers, inconsistent delivery times, having to phone awful inefficient customer services departments, the unnecessary amount of plastic carrier bags it all came in....

It just isn't worth the delivery cost and turns out to be more time consuming and inconvenient

SharkSave · 31/03/2019 10:04

I'm genuinely surprised you said this was morrisons, we find them to be the best round here. If they are going to be early (rare) they ring first to check if we want it before our time slot. Never have crappy substitutions either!

TeddyIsaHe · 31/03/2019 10:07

I’m surprised as well as Ocado do Morrison’s deliveries and their customer service is excellent. I’ve never had a problem.

Maybe speak to Ocado and see if they have a number for someone higher than you spoke to?

Mumof1andacat · 31/03/2019 10:07

You need to publicly shame them. Tweet them on Twitter

hazeyjane · 31/03/2019 10:08

The worst delveries I've had were ....

The one where a bottle of someone else's fabric conditioner had leaked over half the shopping.

The one where the delivery driver made racist and sexist comments about the woman that normally did the deliveries

ohhcecelia · 31/03/2019 10:10

Christ, they sound bloody awful! I shop with Sainsbury's and it's usually fine - only once a bottle of gin in the order before us smashed and soaked half our shopping, the delivery driver didn't seem to understand why I didn't want a sodden fajita kit and packets of pasta dripping with gin.

BlackeyedGruesome · 31/03/2019 10:10

Asda, not even for us. Delivery driver blocked the access to the flats and two families late for school as they refused to move the van even when we were behind it asking them to move.

SushiGo · 31/03/2019 10:14

We went back to shopping in person too! Honestly find it easier and probably same amount of time to do, plus I spend less.

boxlikeamarchhare · 31/03/2019 10:16

I use Ocado, they gave me a free delivery pass for a year and the minimum spend is only £40. Lots of delivery slots usually available, for instance last night I chose one for when I get back from my Mother’s Day lunch today.

Substitutions and missing items are very rare. Flash sales really good, this week two Waitrose Scottish salmon fillets for £3 amongst other things.

Having said that when the switch to M&S I probably won’t use them much as I find M&S food generally very processed and their unprocessed food range small and very expensive.

RubertRoo · 31/03/2019 10:18

I stopped using Morrisons because when DD was about 2 weeks old, expecting my food shopping as normal, had phone call from the driver saying "I've been held up in traffic and want to go home so I'm not going to deliver your shopping"

So he just didnt come. This was a Friday - rang CS thinking they would get my shopping back out the Saturday morning but they said they had no slots left until Tuesday! My DH was working away, I could still barely walk with a tiny baby so I went on Tesco and got a slot for 8am the next morning.

I never used Morrisons online again

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 31/03/2019 10:19

Ocado are very friendly, also I got an e mail offer for 20 pounds off a 60 pound shop recently

oneofthose · 31/03/2019 10:21

Twice I've ordered with Morrison's (home alone in winter with a newborn) and twice they didn't even turn up!!

They didn't tell me they weren't coming they just cancelled my delivery due to the snowy weather and didn't tell me until a week after that's why they cancelled. I will never use them again.

I use Tesco or Ocado now and not had any problems with them yet.

Bonkersblond · 31/03/2019 10:21

Tesco’s haven’t been brilliant for the last 4 weeks, constantly getting short life date’s, half of shopping has been missing, have had to reorder and pay again and wait in the following day, refund of the missing items wasn’t put through properly so effectively paid twice, time wasted on phone sorting this out, they did however give me a £15 goodwill voucher but I’m starting to question if it is worth it. When the delivery goes right with decent use by dates it’s great but this seems to be few and far between. It almost makes me think the pickers have been told to select short life dates so the supermarket can get rid of stock as depending what it is I will keep if can stick in freezer as saves me going out again. I’m going back to Lidl and Waitrose as soon as Lidl reopens after refit, best of both worlds, they are opposite one another, save money in Lidl and get nicer bits in Waitrose, we eat really well and this way is cheaper than one big shop in any of the other supermarkets.

oneofthose · 31/03/2019 10:22

@RubertRoo just seen the same thing happened to you! Must be a thing with them that they just don't turn up!!

Scoresonthedoors · 31/03/2019 10:25

Every single delivery I’ve ever had, only ever used Ocado in the Waitrose days out of necessity when DD was a baby and DH away, has been late. After 11 o clock at night late. I nearly cried with frustration once because I was tired and wanted to go to bed and they kept saying they were on their way.

Never had a voucher or anything for the inconvenience.

Also, they use the earliest sellby dates so I had loads of stuff go off before I could use it.

I shop in person now.

Yogagirl123 · 31/03/2019 10:27

The worst delivery we ever had was from Sainsbury’s a few years back, just back from hols, most of the fridge stuff was smashed up, yoghurts etc, milk looked ok, i needed it so I said I would wipe the bottles etc. As I walked down the hall, milk was leaking, milk all over my hall carpets.

The delivery lady was so sorry rang supervisor straight away.

Sainsbury’s paid to have my carpet cleaned and refunded my shop.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 31/03/2019 10:28

I don't get deliveries now, but when I did I always found Tesco very good. And they always text you for feedback on the delivery, so they clearly have some quality control going on.

greenelephantscarf · 31/03/2019 10:29

that's why I went back to going to the shops.
deliveries are supposed to make life easier and they didn't for me.

BorsetshireBlew · 31/03/2019 10:30

Asda are truly awful because they take a ghost payment of the entire amount when you place the order, then they try to take the actual payment before they deliver. On the too regular occasions that the ghost payment doesn't get released before they take the real payment, unless you have double the payment available in your account they will then refuse to deliver the food because your payment didn't go though, and also refuse to release the original payment in less than 10 days so if you're poor you get no shopping and no money.

Never use Asda home shopping if you're on a budget!

MelGtn7 · 31/03/2019 10:31

Morrisons has gone down hill so badly. Their customer service is appalling and there's noone you can escalate the complaint to without contacting customer service first, which is very unhelpful when it's customer service you want to complain about.

I have switched to Ocado. Their service is so much better and very little difference in price.
