How many times have you seen your GP/doctor in the last year?

Four times for me, which feels like quite a lot. Twice to report bleeding in between periods, once to check prescription medication and once because I was worrying that leg pain might be caused by a dvt (it wasn't, and I was embarrassed to waste their time). So really, I take up a lot of NHS resources in spite of being a basically healthy middle aged woman. All I can say in my favour is that I don't bother them with colds or sore throats or the joint pain I get that I assume is OA. Just wondered if this is typical of how others use their GP. Do you think 4 visits a year makes you one of those nuisance patients that they dread seeing?

Changed gp surgery 6 years ago and have been once.

WinterHeatWave · 31/03/2019 10:34

Trying to think.
We moved country in 2015.
Have had annual flu vaccinations.
Kids have been for booster vaccinations.
I've been once.
Think maybe 3 "same day" appointments for kids when ill.
DH has been to get a course of physio. Maybe two other times.

So maybe 1-2 times a year?

Adversecamber22 · 31/03/2019 10:40

I’m under a consultant so see them quite often but my actual Gp not often. Twice in the last 12 months. DH has seen a GP four times in the 22 years we have been together.

I went once about a year ago and a couple of times to the nurse for a routine appointment. Before that, maybe five or six years ago?

Cocolepew · 31/03/2019 12:11

Maybe twice last year and 3 times in the last 6 weeks, I'm expecting to get asked down to see her tomorrow after a phone consultation too.
All for pleurisy during a Lupus flare. Its been particularly bad this time, I also have costochroditis and was hospitalised with a suspected clot.
Never really go for anything else.

ASauvignonADay · 31/03/2019 12:14

Twice. Last year twice as well. Usually less than that to be honest.

Redyoyo · 31/03/2019 12:15

None, i had blood tests a few weeks ago but i only seen the nurse. Our gp rarely gets you in they usually diagnose you over the phone and leave a prescription at reception.

Fairylea · 31/03/2019 12:16

I usually end up there twice a month BlushShock but I do have Addison’s disease and other chronic health issues which are hard to manage together and often needs a check to make sure there isn’t anything more serious going on.

LBOCS2 · 31/03/2019 13:32

For me, none - although I am gearing up to going; just need to find a suitable time without children or work in the way.

DD2 went for her flu spray in Octoberish.

Unusually for us, DH has been to the GP more than the rest of us put together this year due to a soft play injury and a hurty testicle. The NHS have been excellent though and it's all been very reassuring.

Camomila · 31/03/2019 13:42

Been to the dentist 3 times though - wisdom tooth!

Toddler DS has been 2-3 times, twice was just a virus and once was fairly bad tonsilitus and needed antibiotics.

Splodgetastic · 31/03/2019 13:51

I can't remember the last time I went to see the actual GP. I think it was probably about five years ago. I usually see the nurse for a medication review every six months to a year. After one of the check-ups I had a blood test and the GP phoned me up to give me a bollocking about needing to make healthy lifestyle changes, even though I am fairly sure the reason for the bad result is genetic.

Thatsnotmyotter · 31/03/2019 13:52

6 week check and then about my low mood/postnatal depression (twice - one initial appointment and then GP requested a follow up). I had an annual asthma review with a nurse too.

I’m generally speaking healthy and usually only see someone annually for an asthma check up.

MadameAnchou · 31/03/2019 14:05

Not at all. I had a phone consultation last year. He was a git. I haven't been back. I can't change surgeries as rural and there's only this one. I'm overdue a smear test by about 7 months. Rang to get an appointment but was told they were waiting for some equipment and to ring back in a few weeks.

Sarcelle · 31/03/2019 14:06

Zero times.

Ohhgreat · 31/03/2019 14:09

Not at all in the last year, year before only for children's jabs. Husband went 3 times last year.

BillywigSting · 31/03/2019 14:10

Three times, once for something bowel related and twice for acne. I've seen gp three times for acne but one was last year. This is the third medication I'm trying to shift and it seems to be finally working, so hopefully I won't have to darken their door again for quite some time

Persimmonn · 31/03/2019 14:10

3 times. The first 2 was within the same week and was called back in by the gp . Then I went again a few months ago for something completely different.

I feel like since I hit 30 I always have to go to the doctor at least once a year as many of my coughs/colds linger and turn into nasty chest infections. Old age Ennit.

6timesthemess · 31/03/2019 14:54

I don’t think I have this year at all but the year before many times as I was I’ll so many
Times with random things and for some reason ended up in hospital 3 times with infections.

hisnameisfreckles · 31/03/2019 16:52

At least 10 times in the last 12 months previous year maybe 2 or 3. I have a life limiting condition and two big flkare up in the last 12 months

FaFoutis · 31/03/2019 16:54

Zero. Not seen a GP for at least 10 years.

Blackandpurple · 31/03/2019 17:51

Last month for a referral to a physio and xray. Christmas day i had to get a OOH gp out as i was so ill i was in bed for 3 days with flu. Warned me if i didnt get up on day 4 id be in hospital on fluids, so I forced my self up.

Before then it was a few yrs.

Rubusfruticosus · 31/03/2019 17:54

Last saw my GP myself over 3 years ago. Took DC a year or so ago.

MsAwesomeDragon · 31/03/2019 17:57

I haven't seen my GP this year. But I have accompanied dd1 to the GP twice recently. We're going again later this week.

I could do with seeing the GP for myself but haven't managed to fit it in as it's not an emergency.

PinkPupZ · 31/03/2019 18:01

2

cottonwoolbrain · 31/03/2019 18:05

4 times
Once to get a coil removed and a new one put in
Once for mental health related issues
Once for an annual epilepsy check up

I have also had attention from paramedics and a night in hospital after having a major seizure on a bus (don't think other passengers were impressed because they stopped running bus and made all of them except a lovely man who was a nurse await the next bus Blush )

Oh and one visit to nurse for smear test

Ouch looks like I cost NHS a fortune. I do try not to time waste though
