Once it’s gone it’s gone.

I think we should use that saying more, but we have handy shops

I shop 3x a week, easier than a big shop

DeathMetalMum · 30/03/2019 08:23

Yes once it's gone it's gone. Dc are only 8&6 but they know if something has run out or I didn't get any this week. It will be next time I go to the supermarket.

bread, milk, various fruits, yogurt (where does it go almost never see it eaten but it keeps disappearing)

onestitchaway · 30/03/2019 08:33

Bread
Milk
Bananas
Strawberries
Coleslaw (Tesco finest cheddar coleslaw to be exact!)
Cucumber

greenelephantscarf · 30/03/2019 08:38

chocolate for me is the only thing really

Wigeon · 30/03/2019 08:39

A bread machine means you never run out of bread (as long as you remember to put it on).

Buy tonnes of bananas at varying ripeness (ready to eat, almost ready to eat, green) and you will have bananas most of the week.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 30/03/2019 08:39

Generally nothing, though occasionally milk if it's gone off early.

greenelephantscarf · 30/03/2019 08:40

bananas - we get a green and a yellow hand with the weekly shop.
bread we eat 2 loaves. homebakes so they keep.
milk - we have 4 pints a week.

lucysmam · 30/03/2019 08:46

Milk. We use at least 4 pints, every day, here!

Bread I freeze a couple of loaves with every shop.

Anything else...once it's gone, it's gone until the next shop. Unless it's something we use for pack-ups, like salad, in which case we walk to Lidl or pick it up there when we go on a Sunday.

MrsMoastyToasty · 30/03/2019 08:49

Milk
Cat food

RHTawneyonabus · 30/03/2019 09:18

Thing is I love the freshly squeezed OJ and so does everyone else. If we replaced it when it ran out we’d be spending £10 a week on OJ.

Chilledout11 · 30/03/2019 09:22

Sliced ham. Bread. Milk (we use a lot)
Also chicken breasts or something fresh from the butcher (mince or stewing beef)

Theoldwoman · 30/03/2019 09:49

I shop 'most days' always enough for a day or two. No wastage. Back when I used to shop weekly, I would always have to top up bread, milk, fruit, cat food and water.

MrsPear · 30/03/2019 10:02

Fruit, salad stuff, milk and juice here.

user1494055864 · 30/03/2019 11:58

Bread, grapes, bananas, a few salad items. I don't use milk in tea, and we have long life soya/almond milks for cereals. We have fresh crusty bread at the weekend, and then I'll need a fresh loaf by about Wednesday for pack lunches.

anothermansmother · 30/03/2019 12:10

I don't do a top up. I write a list and plan meals. I found that just nipping in for some milk/bread etc ended up costing me a fortune. So one big shop a week and that's it. I can now do a weekly shop for £60 rather than going to get bits to top up and spending £40 a trip.

cicciolina · 30/03/2019 12:12

Tuna, eggs, bread, zucchini, tomatoes, onion (don’t have the storage space for them), sardines, lettuce, radicchio, milk, capsicum, cucumber

FinallyFluid · 30/03/2019 12:14

NoWordForFluffy · 30/03/2019 12:17

Apples, peppers, berries, carrots and cucumber in the main here. We get through a crazy amount of all of those as the kids snack on those so much.

EastMidsGPs · 30/03/2019 12:46

We get through so much milk it would be cheaper to keep a cow
Always replacing bananas, berries (raspberries and blueberries mainly) and bizarrely cherry tomatoes.

And Jaffa cakes

thenightsky · 30/03/2019 12:52

Salad stuff
Milk
Used to be bread, now have a bread maker.

BikeRunSki · 30/03/2019 12:58

Bananas
Usually have bread in the freezer
Milk and eggs come from the milkman

scaryteacher · 30/03/2019 13:04

Since ds has returned home post MA, it's milk, bread, ham, sliced cheese, (pre sliced gouda that is commonly used in sandwiches here in Belgium), peanut butter, Lurpak and squash. Did a quick pre Brexit flip back to the UK for Lurpak, cheddar and teabag supplies this week, so should have enough in stock for the moment.

MitziK · 30/03/2019 13:35

DP doesn't like weekly shopping, so gets things daily instead.

It really annoys me, as I prefer being able to open the cupboards/fridge/freezer and deciding what variant of the ingredients I fancy when I decide to cook - his way means that there are never all the ingredients I need to just get on and make something and inspiration is hard to come by when you're staring at an empty cupboard 'Tell me what you want and I'll go and get it' is not a suitable alternative, as if I could pick these ideas out of my head, I wouldn't be looking in a fucking empty cupboard for ideas in the first place, would I?

You can still run out of bread with a breadmaker if you don't have strong flour or yeast in the cupboards, by the way.

I am slightly entertained by the idea of travelling from Belgium to England to buy Danish butter, though.
