Which is the Best Newspaper in the UK?

I'm politically Centrist so find The Telegraph and even Times sometimes to be a bit too tory. Equally, the Guardian can be too leftie for me.

Obviously one can read things with a pinch of salt!
Daily Mail just seems a bit provoking, often unsubstantiated.
Sun just gossip and no real news.

I like the Economist but it can be terribly dry, the same as the Financial Times.

Which is the Best Newspaper in your opinion and why?

I read the Guardian as a rule, but I don’t think it’s the best. Some of the viewpoints baffle me, but I like the columnists and the recipes, their live coverage of new stories is also great if I can’t watch the news.

I tend to read most newspapers so I get a good indication of what is being said about important topics (Brexit, obvs).

Don’t mind the Mirror for a bit of easy reading.

MadMadCow · 28/03/2019 09:26

I think it's a case of 'best fit'. I'm left of centre but cannot get on with the Guardian. I buy The Times. I find the general quality of the writing and journalism top notch even if I don't always agree.

Palominoo · 28/03/2019 09:27

The Daily Mail.

I read both the Guardian and the Times. I'm relatively left leaning- probably becoming s bit more centrist in my old age but feel like the contrasting views balance me out. Wouldn't read the Fail or the Sun if you paid me

marvellousnightforamooncup · 28/03/2019 10:05

I generally read The Guardian but do like to read other POV too. Not a tabloid fan though.

BillywigSting · 28/03/2019 10:10

I think the independent is probably the most balanced.

I tend to read the same story in the times, the guardian, and the independent and tend to presume that something close to the truth is somewhere in between the three

Iwannasnack · 28/03/2019 10:14

I would also say the Independent. I’m probably left of centre and generally read the Guardian but do find it a bit much at times.

borntobequiet · 28/03/2019 10:18

Buy the i. No political bias, some very good journalists (eg Patrick Cockburn), regular articles from the Economist and overseas press, and it’s cheap.

Knittedfairies · 28/03/2019 10:20

The i.

Mysterian · 28/03/2019 10:22

I'd normally read the Times or Express.

If it wasn't for the views I'd go for the Daily Mail. It's just laid out so well. You can see what columns belong to what story, easy to read, right size, good sport section. Why can't somebody do a non-right wing version?

Neighneigh · 28/03/2019 10:29

The guardian is also incredibly London centric, but it's the only paper I can get on with really. To be honest I'd rather catch Channel Four News these days. Not a newspaper, obviously, but for standards of reporting and covering stories others don't touch, they are (literally) award winning.

borntobequiet · 28/03/2019 10:29

Mysterian - try the i.

outpinked · 28/03/2019 10:34

I only bother with The Guardian.

eginma · 28/03/2019 10:42

The Daily Mail is pure drivel. Read by those professing to be above reader of The Sun, yet equally possess complete lack of cognitive ability or reason.

Avoid it like the plague.

Shoxfordian · 28/03/2019 11:14

I read the Times, partly for the crossword. Also look at the guardian app but I don't agree with many of their opinion pieces.

Wouldn't dream of reading the daily fail and judge anyone who does

Shoxfordian · 28/03/2019 11:15

The Week magazine is good for news too op

Twooter · 28/03/2019 11:18

I like the i as well

longwayoff · 28/03/2019 11:29

The Independent although I subscribe to the Guardian to helping keep it going, we have to have a left point of view available to us. Oh god though, it can be like reading a student magazine. Hurrah for Jay Rayner, bright spot of the week.

LunaTheCat · 28/03/2019 11:37

I live overseas and The Guardian is what I read- great without having to upgrade. The times is expensive online but I love it. The truth is somewhere between these two.
I adore English papers!

Still18atheart · 28/03/2019 11:39

The times in the week. Especially like the times 2 section. Sunday Times supplements and telegraph supplements. I find the broad sheets too big. To handle and info overload.

The evening standard when in London
I is good news in brief summaries
Local paper for sheep stuck in neighbours garden type news

ineedaknittedhat · 28/03/2019 11:54

I have a Times online subscription. I used to read the Daily Mail, but it was making me feel anxious and depressed.

nutellalove · 28/03/2019 12:00

I've actually grown to not enjoy any U.K. newspapers anymore sadly. They are all more focused on bringing a right or left wing opinion rather than actual interesting news articles.

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 28/03/2019 12:03

I only read the FT now. I skip all the business stories, but I find their news coverage v good and balanced. You have to pay for it, but worth it to avoid reading drivel.

WeaselKingHenry · 28/03/2019 13:26

The I

ginghambox · 28/03/2019 14:14
