Lunch bill

We went to a chain pub/restaurant type place today. More upmarket than a Harvester but not fancy by any means.

2 of us. Each had a starter and a main, and shared a bottle of house wine. How much would you say would be a reasonable bill for that?

Strathmore In an 'average chain restaurant' that the OP says she went to, wine is generally £15 to £25 a bottle, with house wine at the lower end, or even below, that range. It is rare that a bottle of wine costs more than £25 a bottle in those sorts of places.

Therefore, the OP didn't actually go to 'an average chain restaurant' or there was a mistake in the bill somehow for it to cost that much.

Curious as to where they did go.

£80 does seem a lot! I'd have said £60.

I'd say about £8 each for the starters, £15 tops for the mains, £12 for the wine, so that would be £58.

Which pub? Have you checked the bill...we ate at an Indian restaurant with a frugal friend then got a stonking bill. I checked and it was for the next table where they had masses of extras and beers
