If you won millions in the lottery....

Would you work your notice?

I am a teacher so would feel bad on the staff and students if I just upped and left but my notice is 8 weeks! If I won the lottery I would probably work half my notice as a courtesy.

DH said he would quit on the spot (office job) but would feel bad and give his colleagues a few grand each as a sorry!

How about you?

I don't think it's fair to keep working if you win millions. Leave your job open for someone who is unemployed.

The thing is, the NHS is already 35k nurses short. It takes 3 years to train the new nurses, plus I have 10 years experience and I am a Sister so I really would be leaving them in the lurch.

As a pp said, I need daily structure or I'd just spend all day on mumsnet doing very little. I would quite happily become a recluse I think.

I dont have a contract, hours are shortened to suit them regularly
Staff are treated like shit regularly.
I would not give notice i would finish my week to make sure i got paid cos i wouldnt trust them further than i can throw them, then phone them next day to tell them to fottfsoftfosm. i would be ecstatic never to set foot in the place again.😁
(I would post thier 'uniform' back too so i never had to see them again)

I would just see it as early retirement and enjoy me and kids being financially sound for life.

Mine is a different situation as I work for myself, but I'd carry out any existing jobs I had booked (I'm a wedding photographer and couldn't let people down like that!) and then keep working but be a bit more choosy with the jobs I accepted (aka only doing the jobs that excited me/for nice people) - and I'd hire a full time assistant to do the admin bits I hate!

DP would carry on working too, but we'd spend the money on curating a way for him to work more flexibly.

I would do some things to get myself sacked. I've never been sacked, and if I won the lottery and never needed to work again then I'd never have the opportunity to be sacked in the future. It could be a good bit of mischievous fun. Also, it would be a good cover, as I wouldn't want to tell anyone I work with that I'd won.

I'd stay in my job, I really like it.

magicstar1 · 25/03/2019 13:19

I'd probably just go back, tidy my desk and leave. I wouldn't care if people knew I'd won, as my plan would be to buy an exotic island and live there

happyhillock · 25/03/2019 13:24

As soon as the money was in the bank, i wouldn't go back, who wants to get up at 6am when your wealthy, not me.

kaytee87 · 25/03/2019 13:35

I wouldn't stop work at all. I do my job because I find it interesting, easy and rewarding. It's only 17.5 hours and the money isn't really needed but still nice to have I suppose.

chipsandpeas · 25/03/2019 13:46

id phone in sick for my notice period

SD1978 · 25/03/2019 13:48

I'd carry on but reduced hours- small person has a few days a week at her dads and I'd get bored otherwise. But nice knowing it would be a choice and not a necessity!
