Is this picture of a person any good for a 2.8 year old?

As title suggests. DD is 2.8. I was quite impressed but have nothing to base it on other than the old 'self portrait' tea towels we used to do at primary school.

Just to add - I don't think she's a genius but she has other difficulties so this made me feel quite proud.

My 2.8 y old just scribbles so yes I'd say it is good in comparison

BlueBuilding · 23/03/2019 16:09

I think it's lovely Smile

I don't think it matters if it's 'better' than other 2yos or not.

formerbabe · 23/03/2019 16:16

Cute picture!

Yes I think that's very good. DD is the same age and it's just scribbles still. her art skills are from me

Stroller15 · 23/03/2019 16:49

Very good! DS is 2.5 and I cannot see him improving his (questionable) skills that much in 3 months!

Meandmetoo · 23/03/2019 16:50

I think so, my DS is a few years older and isn't much better than that Grin

There's a company on Etsy who turn kids pics into soft toys, would be cute to get one done of her first pic :)

It's good, I would say roughly normal for that age. My children drew like that from about 2 and they are all good at drawing now they're older

Witchend · 23/03/2019 17:11

I would say on the good side of normal, but I don't think drawing people at that age is a sign of artistic ability. It's more observation and thinking logically.

IVEgottheDECAF · 23/03/2019 17:14

I think so

Dc4 is 2.5 and stuck on scribbles and continuous circles

HollowTalk · 23/03/2019 17:21

I think any picture by a 2 year old is good! Try not to compare your child, though, OP. That way madness lies.

Ninkaninus · 23/03/2019 18:00

Yes, developmentally speaking that is quite a complex drawing for her to have done at her age. You are quite right to be proud of her Smile

luckyrabbits · 23/03/2019 18:11

Very cute and very good. Clever little girl.

CakeNinja · 23/03/2019 18:20

Haha my son is 7 and pretty much still draws like this Grin

TheNoodlesIncident · 23/03/2019 18:41

My ds could not be persuaded to make marks at that age, lucky you!

His people drawings looked like bald potatoes on sticks for years (ie from 4 years old in YR), then they looked like two potatoes balanced on top of each other, and now he's ten they look like bunches of sausages.

I think you should encourage her, she's got a great eye for detail and fantastic pencil control for her age. It's a cute picture too Smile

TheFogsGettingThicker · 23/03/2019 18:53

It is very good for her age, most drawings of people (in the beginning) are just the face. The fact that she's added a body is very perceptive.

My DS's pictures of people looked like fleas, and he was a lot older than your DD Grin

Firstty · 23/03/2019 19:33

That's brilliant for her age.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 23/03/2019 19:34

DS is almost 4 and has never done more than a scribble 😄 well done to your DD, id be proud too OP.

Applesbananaspears · 23/03/2019 19:36

My 16 year old pretty much draws like that!

NannyPear · 23/03/2019 19:36

That's great for that age! DS is the same age and just scribbles lines. If that's what some people consider normal or just above normal then DS's skills are abysmal.

killpop · 23/03/2019 19:37

2.8 years? So that's like 2 years 9 months and two weeks - ish?

Very cute.

ScarlettDarling · 23/03/2019 19:37

It's great. I teach in reception and a lot of children still draw like that at age 4/5.

TapasForTwo · 23/03/2019 19:40

Keepingbees I would say that it is exceptional for a child of that age. DD (18) is very talented at drawing, and accepts commissions to draw people's dogs, but she wasn't as advanced as that at that age.

PutsFootInIt · 23/03/2019 19:43

At the 2.5 year review they test your childs ability to draw a straight(ish) line and a (sort of) circle. My dd is 3.5 and couldn't manage anything like your dd OP. I think it's pretty amazing! Does she go to nursery? Have they ever commented on skills?

deadsexy · 23/03/2019 19:46

Awww it's brilliant!
