I'm going to have to throw them away. They stink and they're making me sneeze Hmm. I've never noticed this before and the ones I got last week were fine. These are the bog standard trumpet ones from the supermarket.

Yes. Lovely but they do reek, don’t they?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 21/03/2019 12:36

Daff’s are a bit stinky. I don’t like them in the house for this reason. I do have lots in my garden though Smile

Funkaccino · 21/03/2019 12:36

Never had this with store bought but my home grown ones completely ponged out the kithen. Had to bin them.

the sort with orange middles if thats relevant i wonder?

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 21/03/2019 12:37

Yes, never noticed before this year but they were very wiffy. We’ve just got a new dog and I kept checking to see if she’d done a wee somewhere before I worked out it was the daffodils. 🤢

MaHeidsGouping · 21/03/2019 12:39

I'm a cleaner and last week when I went to a clients house I thought the cat had peed somewhere. Then I realised it was the daffodils, I find Sunflowers smell too after a while.

nowshesaturtle · 21/03/2019 12:40

DD says they smell like nappies Grin

They do smell a bit. I dont mind but DP hates it when i buy them.

Kedgeree · 21/03/2019 12:45

Yes - wee / nappies. I kept thinking yesterday that I'd trodden in something grim. They look nice, they've all opened and they're very jolly, but no, they'll have to go, they're making my eyes water! Might have to get some tulips instead.

They give me horrible headaches - hyacinths are just as bad.

Tulips ftw

Celebelly · 22/03/2019 02:43

Yes! I thought the dog had pissed on something until I twigged it was my nice bunch of daffs...

EnidButton · 22/03/2019 03:06

Yes! Never happened before either. I've had a few bunches this year so far and they all smelt sweet and nice. Yesterday I realised the horrible drain like smell, that was lurking around, was coming from my new daffs. Had to throw them away. No more sniffing the plug holes with a puzzled face.

Were yours from M&S by any chance?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 22/03/2019 03:07

... so thats why my kitchen smells funny XD

Kedgeree · 22/03/2019 09:21

Mine were from Tesco I think. I binned them and sneezing has stopped! I'm going to get tulips tomorrow.

Yep, daffs are for outside unfortunately.

Hyacinths are a nicer scent but are often overpowering.

I stick to roses for inside the house.

cloudymelonade · 22/03/2019 09:34

Thank you for this thread! I thought it was just my pregnant brain being in overdrive but they bloody stink!

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 22/03/2019 09:36

Some varieties smell, and some don't. Also, if you bear with them, the smell usually only lasts a day or so. I don't mind it once I've identified the source.

EnidButton · 23/03/2019 14:49

I'd been sniffing the drain holes for three days before I realised the source. I think I just got a 'bad' batch. Usually they're nice. Hyacinths are nice at first but then it gets way too much for me and there's a definite wee undertone to them. Nice outside though.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 23/03/2019 14:53

Tulips are sinister with their downy-uppy ways Hmm

norrismcwhirtersfridgemagnet · 23/03/2019 14:56

Gypsophila smells of cat piss...

TeaForTheWin · 23/03/2019 14:56

Lol reminds me of the time my mum brought me down a bunch and a bad smell crept into the house about a week later. For a couple of days I couldn't figure out what it was and then I realised I still had them and they had most definitely started to go off. Boggin. I thought they smelled ok at first though, but when they start to turn they are rank.

Bigonesmallone3 · 23/03/2019 14:58

I'm pregnant and extremely sensitive to smells, I had daffodils in my bathroom and although my loo is spotless I kept scrubbing the loo and floor around it thinking I was losing my marbles!

It was the bloody flowers..

Haworthia · 23/03/2019 14:58

I can’t tell you how many times in the past I’ve come downstairs in the morning to be confronted with the smell of piss, only to later remember it’s the bloody daffodils Grin

Delatron · 23/03/2019 15:08

Yes why would you have pissy smelling flowers in your house? They’re only nice outside.

wendz86 · 23/03/2019 15:16

They used to put them in our office once a year everywhere, after a couple of days it stunk.
